Good call. Some people will stop at nothing for a little bit of attention. Wow, stop the presses, Tom Clancy was never seen wearing glasses! A man who had no power in government ever in his life, was nothing more than a novelist who shared with us his talent is slimed because he was never seen wearing glasses while the elected of the country play political games with the health and welfare of individuals lives. So interesting to see the priorities of the American left...never mind the country is bankrupt, being led into war after war, but lets get that Clancy guy....he's a hawk and therefore a Republican and The One has declared them enemies.
Ahem. It would seem there are a few, say a thousand or more, actual pictures of what appear to be Tom Clancy wearing rather thick prescription glasses.. SO.. Either you have a severe competency deficit in using Google, or lied about doing a search. In any event the whole premise of this thread is WRONG. So instead of the usual troll banter, name calling and "It's Bush's fault" rhetoric, you may want to consider apologizing. Not really, my left eye has always been weak, but when they drafted me in '72, they declared me legally blind in it (they even did a special eye exam that lasted 3 hours to make sure), so I was 4F. The irony is that I had all my distinguished marksmanship awards from the NRA. The big thing with eyesight is how correctable is it. My left eye cannot be corrected to meet minimum standards even with correction. If they are extremely near sighted it might not be correctable enough to see the minimum distance required.
Good points. I'm getting bombarded here by the type of people who are always yelling about free speech rights. At another site, where illogical comments are screened-out, all responses were positive or neutral.
Those are pictures of Clancy with sunglasses and reading glasses. Generally speaking, the type of nearsightedness that would keep a person out of Viet Nam would call for COKE-BOTTLE glasses.

I guess you aren't reading any of my answers. Reading glasses (around the neck), and thin lenses like in the last pic, aren't for nearsightedness. The second-to-last pic looks like prescription sunglasses, but nowhere near the strength you'd expect from someone who was turned-down from service during wartime for extreme nearsightedness. I have a nearsighted relative who was drafted into the Viet Nam War despite glasses twice as thick!

Reading glasses... Here's a pic of Clancy in the great outdoors...wearing his glasses so he must be about to read the instruction manual for those enormous binoculars that he has, apparently...?
