Another one bites the dust. How many more of these stories are we going to see in the coming months? Watch the libs respond to this thread claiming Obamacare is not a job killer. Republicans have been right all along, and I hope that every laid off employee registers and votes Republican.

There's one. No sympathy for the people who work there. Just an, Oh well, "They were selling unhealthy food anyway". The Wyrd of Gawd could be Michael Bloomberg.

Sacrifices have to be made for the collective.

That's symbolic of the core problem here. You don't seem to care about a company closing production and the people who loose their jobs as long as your favoured political party gets votes out of it.

All the (partial) quotes in that article are about "fears" and "anticipated" costs. The company has well under the 50 employees to be directly affected so what makes them fear they could be negatively affected anyway? The politicians (and their sycophants) on all sides spouting whatever rubbish they think will get them support and votes deliberately misleading the public.

I hold the representative of the Chamber of Commerce in contempt too. They shouldn't be joining in the politicking at all. It’s their job to find out what the impact will be on the businesses and give them suitable advice.

I posted the article about the job loss. That was my initial comment in my OP. The quotes I guess you are talking about are in the comments section? Because I don't think they had well under 50 employees, that was just one of the local franchises according to the actual article. If they had under 50 employees they would be exempt, so I think that the fact they are attributing the closure to Obamacare that they in fact have more than 50 at the ice cream plant itself.

It is the job of the Chamber of Commerce to promote commerce. Job losses adversely affect that commerce. I don't think there is any advice he can give to businesses that can't afford to operate due to Obamacare.

I think that your assessment has been anything but "honest".

The idea of employers being responsible for employees health insurance is stupid.

The only time GOP supports give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about people out of work is when they can use it to their advantage. None of their platform actively works to do anything about misplaced workers. Simply 'opposing obamacare' does nothing. That stance is about being against Obama, not out of work citizens.

There is a difference between the ice cream plant, and the local ice cream store franchise.

We are against Obama because he is creating out of work citizens.

Sure, but your comment was about which political party those people would vote for. Politics shouldn't be the priority here.

No, I meant the quotes from the business owner and the Chamber of Commerce spokesman. They didn't refer to anything close to specific about the closure, they just discussed amorphous fears and anticipations (though it's perfectly possible they did give more information that was not followed up or reported). That in itself is a problem but it's a problem caused by politics and one that won't be solved by more of the same.

The article explicitly states they are "far from 50 employees". That's one of the key reasons their blaming the ACA for the closure doesn't sit right.

They don't know whether the business could afford to operate under the ACA. It's their job to help businesses work out how the ACA will impact them, not to promote ignorant panic.

Don't get me wrong, the ACA seems far from perfect and the political context wrapped around it is a mess. Lots of companies will be negatively impacted and this could be one of them. The problem I have is the promotion of ignorance, the idea that it's understandable for companies to shut down because they "don't know" how the ACA will effect them (if at all), especially from those who should be finding out, like the Chamber or Commerce or journalists. The company doesn't know what the summer weather is going to be like, how the price of sugar is going to change or whether the river will flood this winter either but none of them are a reason to simply throw in the towel.

I know, there weren't any companies shutting down when Bush was president, companies shutting down was something new that started under Obama.
    And more specifically under ObamaCare.
It's awful, for the first time in American history, a company is closing, and people are losing their jobs.
And it's all because of ObamaCare.........

So, American's have an obesity crisis.

Obesity is primarily for heart attacks and other diseases.

    Ice cream makes you fat.

I see so much irony! ;)

And why aren't you against the constant push towards poverty by trade agreements made by his predecessors which took jobs out of the country? Obama didn't do that...he lets it continue, but he didn't start that trend....it seems he's just an 'easy target' for you lot. This ball has been rolling for years now.

Not true at all. Republicans at the state level do a lot of heavy lifting to try to foster job creation. Obamacare and Quantatative Easing do nothing to help replace all the blue collar jobs Clintonomics destroyed in the US.

In that case ice cream should be a banned substance for food stamp bums.

    But it isn't.

I'm not surprised that libs would shrug of these job loses because Obama voters don't need jobs.

All they need is Obama and the welfare state to take care of them.

I went to the Bonnie Doon Ice Cream website where this is posted.

    http://bonniedoonicecream.com/

While I'd never heard of Bonnie Doon Ice Cream apparently, based upon their website, it is a premier ice cream that demands premium prices and has a very loyal following even if prices are raised very slightly to cover the costs of the Affordable Care Act that also provides subsidies for small businesses.

If Bonnie Doon Ice Cream is going out of business it's not because of the Affordable Care Act. It's because not enough people are willing to pay the extra costs of a premium ice cream like Bonnie Doon and are instead purchasing lower cost ice creams in the markets.

This is about as absurd as the owner of Papa John's Pizza saying his outlets couldn't afford the costs of the ACA when Pizza Hut and Dominos that sell pizzas for less and have the identical costs for their pizza production can afford it.

They say the extra cost of ObamaCare was part of their decision.

    But what do they know?

Better that we should listen to you who has never even heard of the company and has never seen their books.

Obamacare is embarrassing law, haphazardly thrown together and purposely shielded from scrutiny before and after Obama signed into law. Stories highlighting the negative effects of the law (part time employment, layoffs, plant closings, hospitals downsizing services, exploding premium costs, doctor shortages, waivers for special interests, etc.) have been purposely blacklisted by the MSM while they endlessly demean those who refuse to be silent. Obamacare is being defending not on merit and never has been. Pelosi made that clean when under pressure to defend the merits couldn't, and deferred by saying the bill needed to be passed before knowing what was in it. The MSM accepted her answer then, and now, even as negative effects are frequently happening, aren't responsibly reporting it. Obama doesn't care if businesses shut down, workers loose hours, small businesses are being finically burdened, people are loosing their doctors or people are facing huge premium hikes, it's the price he and his allies are willing to pay to "move forward" with HIS vision and his alone. Nothing else matters to Obama or the left right now. If people suffer, "to bad". You're premiums skyrocket, "tuff, quit complaining". You loose your doctor, "sorry, go get another one". It's disturbing to watch and even more so knowing it's not likely to change. Next we're going have the same propaganda campaign waged for immigration reform and anyone opposing Obama will be rhetorically tarred & feathered and personally attacked by the MSM.

Did you even read your own link? I think not. The article says that they close this time of year then reopen again later, it also mentions that it only affects companies with 50 or more employees and they do not have that many so there was no impact, they just Think there might be an impact if they hire a lot more people, Oh and the law has always stated that companies with 50 or more full time employees had to offer some sort of health benefits, long before ACA. It also says someone is thinking of buying the company so it looks more like a bunmch of excuses and speculation on some peoples part. Clue, when making claims based on articles, READ them before posting them or risk coming off looking foolish.
