*shrug* It's choice vrs choice. You would have more of an argument if every single coupling of male to male interaction resulted in disease, but it doesn't. Not all gay men have aids, not all aids victims are gay. Your talking about educating people about the possible dangers associated with certain choices, which I agree with.

The same is with Obesity, not every fat person treats there body like crap, and eating a big mac doesn't automatically mean your fat. It's all about being smart about your decisions and understanding and accepting the consequences that may arise from those choices.

Aren't you the one who constantly argues about about liberty and personal responsibility? Part of that is realizing that there are those who are going to make choices that you (personally) view as wrong. Just as some of your choices may not strike me as right.

No, it's benign vs malignant. Being fat is nowhere near the public health issue of being an AIDS CARRIER, many of whom, ( maybe even MOST ) do not even know it, according to the CDC.

Fat people eating doesn not KILL SOMEONE ELSE.

As I said , to continue to pretend otherwise, is just ridiculous. Stop it.

I die a little inside every time I see a fat person eating.

Your blind if you think AIDs is a bigger health issue then Obesity.

    Facts:

US Medical Costs for Obesity - 147 Billion annually as of 08 http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

US Medical Costs for AIDS - 16.6 Billion Annually as of 09. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/prevention/ongoing/costeffectiveness/

    Obesity pervalence - 35% (minimum)

AIDs - 0.28% of people who know they have the disease, and estimated 18% who don't. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/statistics/basics/ataglance.html

And with AIDs, I would say its easier to prevent with proper information and planning (not including accidental transfers in cases of blood transfusions or the like) whereas combating obesity can and most likely takes a significant amount of time (lifetime) and effort.

The biggest fear surrounding HIV/AIDS is the fact that it can be communicated without the other persons knowledge vrs obesity is a very personal issue.

There never were any hurdles in the Senate. As long as it sounds left wing radical, it passes. Doesn't matter how short sighted it may be or what the actual real consequences are!

Then it must be state by state, because I have gone through the wrongful termination discovery, and she asked me that question.

Equality is being championed by a few Repubs as well.

The Ayatollah-fellow-travelers in Boehner's bunch, the TPs, could further befoul the GOP. With their ineffectual government shut down as strike one, if they whiff on this one, comprehensive immigration reform should finish them.

Now we get to see the full bigotry of the TeaParty/ Republicans on full display!! I think wd should start a donation of 1 dollar for everytime one of these religious bigots invokes God as reason they cannot do the right thing and protect all Americans.

I like you in general. Can you please address post #20

I am all for equality, but I have a specific issue with dress code. I am not accepting the transgender end thrown on to the acceptable protection of gays.

I totally understand this perspective in a customer facing environment, but if it's not distracting and the person is within the guidelines what does it matter what the person is wearing?

I realize this is the exception, not the rule, but is this offensive to you:

    Jenna-Talackova_2184184b.jpg

If that person were to come into work in a dress, and co-workers were unaware, I'm willing to venture it may cause a different type of distraction.

If I can lock them in a basement somewhere, I don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) what they look like, or what anyone else thinks if they are effective at their job.

If you make this federal... I cannot turn down a tranny for a sales position. I can't live with that.

I think you're implying that being gay/lesbian = spreading AIDs.

That's a very false statement. Especially if one isn't having sex in the workplace, AIDs is unlikely to spread from gay/lesbian co-workers.

AIDs is spread from hetero sex and from needle exchange.

If you really are for public health, anti-AIDs spreading, you would mandate that only lesbian sex is allowed and needle exchanges would be available in every public place of business.

Allowing people to discriminate against LGBT in hiring/firing does nothing to advance public health.

Boehner will try to have it BOTH ways...

    1. Oppose the bill...to pander to the Right, to "make up" for the Shutdown Surrender.

    2. Let the bill pass on a vote (with many Repubs joining the Dems).....to try to put forth the image that the GOP does NOT pander to homophobes and is "inclusive".

Sorry, but for Justin Bieber you may have to get the death penalty... an apology just doesn't seem like enough

You know what DOES kill people? Emissions from coal-burning plants. Asthma rates in central California are way high due to pollution. I know a guy who died at 50 - AT FIFTY - because of an asthma-related heart condition - and this guy hiked, rafted, was in great shape.

So you want to do something for the public health? Work against pollution, especially from coal-fired plants but also from cars and other sources. Are you with me on this? Ready to pass a law on this? Now THAT would save lives.

    Passing ENDA won't kill anyone.

Why? Ok, maybe you won't send them to Saudi Arabia. We had a high performer (product management) at my company transition from male to female. No problem, although they did move her to a position where she wouldn't have to travel to the Middle East; they thought that wouldn't go over very well. She ended up becoming a product evangelist; she's now at another company doing well. The brain and talents are there, regardless what gender they choose to be.

You would, for lots of reasons. For me, I live in a right to work state, I can fire a person without a reason if I choose. Furthermore, many jobs some with specific requirements, like Hooter's only hiring hot females, furthermore if a person looks like a nut in a dress I'd have a hard time believe they'd be effective at outside sales and voila! Fired for poor performance.

You can still turn down transsexuals, just not because they're transsexuals. Let's get real, most jobs are competitive and you don't have to disclose why you chose one candidate over another.
