A growing body of evidence collected by UN investigators points to the involvement of senior Syrian officials, including President Bashar Assad, in crimes against humanity and war crimes, the UN's top human rights official said Monday.
Navi Pillay, who heads the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the scale and viciousness of the abuses being perpetrated by both sides almost defies belief, and is being well documented by an expert UN panel of investigators.
"They've produced massive evidence," she told a news conference. "They point to the fact that the evidence indicates responsibility at the highest level of government, including the head of state."
But Pillay said the lists of suspected criminals are handed to her on a confidential basis and will remain sealed until requested by international or national authorities for a "credible investigation," and then possibly used for prosecution.
Pillay said she worries about striking the right balance in determining how long to keep the information secret. The lists "rightly belongs to the people who suffered violations," she said, but they also must be kept sealed "to preserve the presumption of innocence" until proper judicial probes can be done that could lead to trial.
Pillay and the four-member UN panel on Syria war crimes chaired by Brazilian diplomat and scholar Paulo Sergio Pinheiro has previously said Assad's government and supporters and the rebels who oppose them have committed heinous war crimes during the nearly 3-year-old civil war in Syria that has killed more than 120,000 people.
But this time, Pillay specifically referred to the president – though she was careful to say she hadn't singled him out as a possible suspect on the secret lists.

For first time, UN Human Rights claims investigation, massive evidence indicates Assad involved in human rights violations !!
Well the Anti Israeli UN Human rights orginazation cannot close their eyes against what's going on in Syria.
Allah kills Arabs with the help of his "follower" Assad.

Honestly, the notion of war crimes is an utter farce and if the Holocaust hadn't happened, we wouldn't have invented the term. You have people trying to murder each other, legally "sanctified" by the State. How can it possibly be moral? Or justified? Put it another way, the only way Assad is sentenced in criminal court is if he's dispatched.

That's why Obama can send drones everywhere, etc. It's why Bush can stay inside the U.S or other states loyal to the U.S. The whole notion is so laughable, with no credibility that it doesn't even matter.

But yes, I'd rather a sane criminal than insane terrorists who butcher and maim innocent women, children and persecute other religions.

That bastard Assad as you call him, had the most peaceful and tolerant nation in the Middle East. Do you really believe that if he lost the war, that every Alawite, Christian and other minority wouldn't be massacred? I don't, neither does the CIA or anyone else. Assad's followers are fighting for their lives. The crimes Assad is committing, has to be seen in relation to the crimes which would occur if he didn't stop the terrorists.

You seem to have overlooked this part:

"...the UN's top human rights official said Monday.
Navi Pillay, who heads the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, said the scale and viciousness of the abuses being perpetrated by both sides almost defies belief, and is being well documented by an expert UN panel of investigators..."

More accurate statement is the Israelis are continuing in their efforts to destroy Syria.
