Can you "brainwash" someone into a conservative?

Exactly. I usually listen to NPR. It's my main news source. That said, I can listen to any story, and I know the conservative side to it, and I rail against it (when alone in my car). On those rare occasions I listen to Rush (every couple of months), he makes about the same kind of comment about a story that I've already made in my car. Rush (or Hannity or Levin or any other right wing talk show host) does not tell conservatives how to think, he just confirms to us that others are thinking the same way.

 

How are you going to understand something that you continue to run away from? HINT: You simply CANT and that's exactly what we found out to be true. LOL

 

Exactly, what you want to hear. Conservative means fear of change. All I hear from conservative news outlets is fear fear fear. Failure, fear, crisis are the most common words.

I don't agree with everything on the liberal news either, but you don't get the same kind of fear baiting.

 

Liberal means embracing change while lacking common sense and any intellectual or emotional grasp of consequences or how systems are generally tied into one another so that a STUPID change over here affects that delicate object over there.

 

Lacking common sense intellectual or emotional grasp of consequences etc. etc. is not a trait of a progressive. That is why you brand progressives as "liberals." To be "free from traditional ideals" is the opposite of conservatism, which is why only conservatives call progressives "liberal." Look at you, getting defensive over a simple observation of conservative news outlets. Everything is a fear or crisis. Hell, you have Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh calling the progressive Pope a liberal and a Marxist. The Pope though?!!

 

I am not responsible for leftwingers continually changing their identity call, "Call us Progressives! Call us Liberals! Call us Progressives! Call us Liberals! " Sheesh! They need to make up their minds and stick with something. As for this new Pope, yeah he's probably a Marxist. You do know that it's a very strong influence in the Catholic Church from Mexico down through Central and South America, right? I would have been surprised had he not turned out to be a Marxist.

Oh good god! I used to post as a liberal during the Bush administration years and all my fellow posters called themselves liberals in their postings. This "I am a proud Progressive!" cr*apola is an Obama administration era phenomenon.

Like I said, the conservatives are dying off. Young people are socially progressive, which is something the neocons refuse to allow.

 

The young are almost always socially progressive and then as they age and wise up they become steadily more conservative. It's a circle of life sort of thing. Oh and by the way leftwingers were saying that conservatism was finished only a couple of months ago . . . and then ObamaCare went into effect. Oh my!

I've been saying conservatism is finished since 2008. This is a generational thing. The true neoconservatives will be extinct in about 20 years.

Then demographics - there aren't enough white christian males to win future elections.

 

Most Hispanics are Christians and leftwingers just relabeled ALL brown skin-toned Hispanics White . . . and so no problem there especially as people tend to become more thoughtful and conservative as they age. Problem solved. Thanks leftwingers!

 

Fiscally conservative yes. But that isn't the issue most modern progressives have. We don't like the social bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Last generations neoconservative movement is dying.

 

Oh yes there are. There are plenty of white Christian females, and black Christians, male and female, who will vote to hold the house and takeover the senate next year. The immoral majority will soon by a minority again.

 

Black Christians don't vote conservative either.. because of the racial undertones used to appeal to southern white conservatives. White females lean progressive as well, but by a less significant margin.

 

More conservative as they age?

Most older blacks, "hispanics" and Asians voted for Obama. So there goes that theory.

 

Cons are so focused on Obama's "approval rating" and "legacy" that they can't see how badly they are destroying their own party.

It's hilarious to watch really. I suspect when 2016 comes and a liberal is elected again, the cons will have even bigger brain farts than they did in 2008 and again in 2012

 

You just keep telling yourself that and while Obama continues to dig himself and his party a great big hole, watch the nearly extinct Right of Center retake control of the Legislative Branch and then take the presidency in 2016 . . . or not. You see, it's all in the future and anything can happen. But the demise of conservatism? You expect humanity itself to change anytime soon?

Well, sure there is. Conservatism is garbage, so most rational people reject it.

 

Definitely not the case for Hispanics and Asians. It is quite the opposite actually. Most young Hispanic and Asians vote for democrats, but that changes as time goes on.

You are delusional. Most people vote not because of -ism, but because of handouts, how not to work, but gain. Then you have neg-voters, who vote because they hate what they vote less.

 

Your right. It's what can my Party do for me? Most people when they are young have this pie in the sky liberal idea. They think no one should be poor, hungry or homeless. They believe that government should be able to supply all our needs. They some how think if we tax the rich enough, it can pay for everything. Many believe government should take over all businesses and supply everyone with a job. They have put all their faith in government wiping out all the nation's ills. It's not until many get older and wiser that they start seeing the world with open eyes and realize that government can't do it all. They can help, but people have to do something to help themselves. Taking from one who has put themselves out trying to get ahead and giving to another who only wants handouts isn't fair.

I have heard some say they should make as much as the owner of a business, because without him, the owner couldn't make his product. Well that is true. But what they forget is that the owner has a thousand people waiting in line to get that job you have, but there isn't a thousand people with the money to start up a business. That owner has the responsibility to make that business work. He is going to be working long after his employees go home. He has his life's savings in that business. He may also have put up as collateral everything he has, including his home to get the money to start that business. How can anyone think they should make as much as he does, or even come close to it?

Some people put years in to make themselves a better life. Four years of college and maybe four more to be a doctor. They have racked up thousands of dollars of debt doing it. Should they not be rewarded for that more than a guy like me who quit school? Should I expect government to take much more from him and give it to me? What have I done with my life to earn it?

So no, you can't brainwash a person into being a Conservative, but you sure can brain was him into being a Liberal. At last until he gets older and smarter.

 

Conservatives are still trying to brainwash their children into creationism. Or to reject global warming? Need I say more?

The ageism conversion is a myth. People's political views come from the era in which they grow up in.

Most older people become MORE liberal as the age, actually.
