I agree somewhat. I was born in the early 50's mom stayed home. We took a vacation every year. we had home cooked dinner every night when dad came home. mom was a home room monitor \. more like she knew what my brother and I was doing 24/7. we had nice cars and a nice home. we ate out every Friday night dads payday. Now most parents know little about their kids let alone what they are doing. Kids run wild while both parents work. My dad never hit my mother or us kids/ That was left up to mom. Parents stayed together for family now divorce runs wild. I think there is more abuse in the world now then in the 50's and 60's.

Yes. that is how it worked. The company could hire more workers and pay less tax. If they choose not to hire employees they paid a high tax on their profit.

There is more abuse now days--due to people moving in together without "knowing"each other. My husband and I made $50,000 each--$100,000 a year total. Gross---its amazing how much of that goes away with taxes. I quit, we lost half our income and our quality of life went way up. But it was because I managed the house and decreased debt and yes---I made sure my husband ONLY focused on work. He came home to a clean house and just like the 50's---clean kids. We were partners.

The problem with people who want to go back to what was, is that they have over-romanticized the past and certainly are not BLACK. Really, I never want to hear another "Conservative" person complain about Blacks NOT voting for them... until they abandon the literally INSANE notion that we are going back, ever again.

The liberal mentioned - and defended - 90%. That liberal was discussing personal income tax rates, not corporate rates. Corporate rates have never been 90%, and - what's more - nearly no one actually paid 90%, not because of any corporate maneuvering (which affects corporate rates), but because of tax shelters and investments in tangible (often luxury) assets.



The fact is - and liberals don't seem to know this - that regardless where the tax rates have been (and that goes for both corporate and personal rates), the Treasury has never collected more than about 15-16% of total receipts.

So this crap about rates is just pure propaganda, and liberals suck it all in.

 

Then it is the conservatives, who have been obsessed with lowering tax rates for over fifty years, who are the ones who are full of crap.

 

Oh no, you don't get to continue to pile on dishonesty. The Conservatives think that tax rates are social engineering, and we want FLAT taxes and LOWER rates.

True, not everything was good about the good old days and the author made some valid points of some that were bad. It's nice to know that we no longer treat Blacks as second class citizens, that we have cleaned up our water and air. It's also true that fat cats had a lot of money, but most of us didn't care because we had jobs, fairly decent paying jobs for back then. While the rich were taxed high, it really didn't make them invest more in the US because we were already making much of what the world wanted. Families had it tough as mostly only the man of the house worked and the wife stayed home and took care of the family. That made a big difference back then, compared to today's society. Most families stayed together and worked hard to make it. We appreciated the few luxuries we could afford on one salary. We respected other's personal possessions. We had no bike locks, no car alarms. Only one lock on the door. You could walk down the street without worrying about being mugged, or killed by a drive by shooter. Never remember hearing about school shootings, although they may have been some. Families stayed together and raised their kids. It was almost unheard of to have kids out of wedlock or expecting government to supply most of your needs. The doctor came to your home and the gas station pumped your gas, checked your oil and cleaned your windshield. Teachers didn't molest the kids and kids didn't act up in school, unless they wanted a paddling or their knuckles cracked with a ruler. You didn't dare sass your parents or be disrespectful to any adult.

But things changed drasticly in the 1960's. The Vietnam War was on, kids got hooked on drugs. We started the War on Poverty that gave so much help to the poor, it broke up families. Fathers left their kids and let government take care of them while they went out and made more kids for the government to support.

We let Japan screw us in trade, closing their doors to most of our products while we gave them full access to ours. That cost us several of our major industries and lost us plenty of jobs.

Drugged up fatherless kids went out and stole, killed, raped and etc. We went deeper into trade where we kept getting the short end of the stick. To the point we went from making most everything people needed and wanted, to making nothing the average person wants or needs. That made the rich richer and the rest of us poorer. But people would like to tell us how much better we are today. Well it maybe so with certain things, but we have gone done a lot more than we have come up. We lost control of the family unit and our kids. Drugs are rampant in this country. Your not safe to walk down your own neighborhood. Can't find a decent job. Have almost half the nation not paying taxes. We some how decided that we don't have to secure our border and we should make citizens of any and all who can cross it.

So while yes, somethings are for the better today, it shouldn't mean in order to change the bad, we had to get rid of all the good.
