To be honest, even though I'm 21, I feel the same way about Facebook. I've been using it less and less, not because it's extremely popular or anything like that, but it does get annoying having your entire family on there, meaning I have to censor what I'm saying or even not express certain views on there due to my family being extremely conservative. And I can't very well delete them, either, because they'll get angry at me thinking I hate them.

This is a first world problem, I know, but it shows a trend among teens and young adults who want a space to themselves where older adults aren't lingering and analyzing their every word. I've found that Twitter and Instagram are popular sites for social networking that don't involve your grandmother commenting on your photo saying how grown up you are or complaining about the younger generation.

its just too much drama bcause everyone knows your business. Not that i have anything to hide but to be honest if i want you to know something i will tell you, or if i want you to know where i am again i will tell you.

it was fun at first when i just had a few friends and my girlfriend as contacts, but when family started barging in it just got bad. especially when there was a fight about something EVERYONE was able to see it. too many drama queens and stupidity.

That's because today's teens have the attention span of an amoeba. Compound that with retardedness and you have your next wave of Democratic voters.

I spent some time with some folks in your generation and they aren't there either.

There was a piece on Sky News the other day, and young people in the UK were saying the same thing.

I had begun to suspect that FB had become old school.

I've never been to Facebook, but some people I know have also dropped off. They can't exchange comments with specific friends, without ALL their friends reading them - and all their friends' friends, and then all their friends' friends' friends. Facebook material is broadcast to a wide world like it or not. And many don't like it.

Apparantly you can limit who sees your content. I have never bothered to figure out how.

I learned early on not to put anything on FB that I didn't want the world to see. Fortunately, I haven't had any trouble with it, although I know people who have.

I see FB as a way to keep up with relatives and friends that I don't normally see on any sort of regular basis. Beyond that, I don't put much value in it.

To paraphrase my friend's teen daughters, Facebook is full of old people. Instagram is where the kids post.

I've started to post things less and less. I may delete mine someday, but I will first have to store all of the pictures... that is the main reason I don't want to delete it. I have so many pictures on there that will be nice to look at someday. I've had one for almost 8 years now. As mentioned before, it lost its luster when the my mom/grandma and other older family members started getting accounts.

I am hardly a teenager but for the life of me cannot see what is so special about Facebook.

I've pretty much had a bellyful of pictures of other people's grandchildren and other people's dogs.

Facebook is just slightly different e-mail. From what I can tell, Twitter is nothing but truncated e-mail.

I think you made the OPs point very well.

Isn't FB set up with groups?
Can't one post so only certain groups see certain posts?

Twitter might very well be the biggest social media political platform that exists. Lots of people (myself included) have an extra twitter account for the sole purpose of political discourse.

Teens are constantly moving on to "the next big thing." From my talks with teens (as a high school teacher), there's this belief among them that new is better. They also like to be trendy, and an activity that gains popularity among adults looses its novelty in their eyes.

I believe Vine is the newest teenage trend in online networking.

I'm not going to defend Facebook. Hell, I was dragged onto it kicking and screaming when my boss suggested I set up a FB page for his company. There are many benefits to it, however.

I keep in contact with my mother, father and aging relatives who live too far away to see more than a few times a year.

For all the concerns of some of the posters, there are a myriad of options you can employ. You can send private messages to friends that only you and your friend see. You can limit who has contact rights while still maintaining the illusion that you haven't blocked people. Believe me, I have a crazy sister. I don't need to read her posts and negativity.

Right now, I think FB is worlds more anonymous than twitter. However, the younger generation will move onto something else. That's fine. Most of my FB friends are my age or older (50+). We're doing just fine keeping the young'uns out of our hair.

---I've always felt that Facebook was the story of Narcissus in the context of modern technology; it is aptly named, anyway.

Huh? You're saying teens are dumping Facebook because they have short attention spans?

    Unrelated to Facebook....
The guy who developed Twitter is a St. Louisan. Shout out to Bishop DuBourg high school.

The "next big thing" will always be out there...

    Myspace, Facebook, Twitter...
something will eventually replace them...and in turn this something will be replaced....

    Popularity is fleeting.
