The only way to sort out the problem is for Ireland to become part of the UK and British state with the protestant religion and monarchy. Otherwise Ireland will have to continue to balance the power of the Catholic Church, EU and US within Ireland to protect against UK control. So far it has worked because of the weakness of the UK and strength of the EU, Catholic Church and US, but that is starting to change. Within 50 years I expect Ireland will be part of a United British Isles with Home rule from Dublin.
