The endurance test of a 3D printed ALL "metal" (not plastic) 1911 was a total success.

This is more reason why gun control will not work.

The Federal government and Local and State governments continue to make more and more gun laws stating they are doing so in order to reduce crime.

But, you and I know that that is not the reason. The sole reason they continue to enact new gun laws is to incrementally disarm the American populace.

As long as people can buy aluminum, steel, mills, lathes and now 3D printers, gun control will never work.

    Gun Control is officially dead.

    God Bless America!

Not only durable... but looks to be very accurate.

The United States Government was NEVER supposed to be imposing its will on law abiding gun owners.

Nice! Can't wait for it to be mainstream!

Texas Baby! You will never see this in a fascist state like California!

It should be made a national holiday the first time someone is murdered with a 3D printed gun and bullet.

3D printers can possibly revolutionize the world. . .but we just want to make more guns with em.

I expect to see some serious 3-D printing regulation; you know the Statists cannot help themselves.

So no problems when gangs and Islamists extremist get their hands on some 3D printers and start printing an arsenal right.

I'm not talking about banning anything. But some people are way too blinded by the "they are taking my guns away!!!" to see an upcoming potenial problem as this technology advances and becomes more and more affordable. It is going to be a problem.

Freedom always is. Fascism and Liberalism keep the control with the government. How you think that is safer for regular folks is beyond me.

One day when you grow up, you are going to be ashamed of the things you think now.

Why do they need a 3D printer?

They can just get a mill/lathe and make their gun now.

Cool slogan. Now back to the issue of this problem we are going to face in the future when a 5th grader will have the capability to print off 500 rounds and a riffle of his preference.

So figure out why some lunatics are increasingly moved to commit murder and see if you can put a stop to what's bugging them so very much . . . otherwise you will eventually have to ban, pressure cookers, all swords and knives -- special permit required to own kitchen knives -- all garden implements, cars, all poisons, and so forth and so on.

Or . . . and here's a radical concept . . . achie-breakie-hearted, anti-freedom liberals can simply grow the hell up and accept reality that no matter HOW MUCH they confiscate, regulate, or ban there are still going to be very bad people in the world who are going to find a way -- gasp! -- to do bad things to the very people that YOU collectively are absolutely determined to disarm and leave at their mercy.

The "gun nuts are going to (*)(*)(*)(*) up" 3d printing?

    Seriously?

Don't you mean the extreme left-wing nanny-state control-freak politicians "are going to (*)(*)(*)(*) up" 3d printing?

    I've already grown up.

And I'm ashamed of the things I used to think of when I was younger.

3d printed metal guns are kind of behind the curb in homemade weaponry.

And how would a fifth grader get access to a 3d printer any easier than getting access to his father's gun?

I have no issue with everyone owning a gun to protect their homes and family

I do though have issue with people protesting with automatic weapons slinged over their shoulders like the NBP

Did the video say that the 500 rounds of ammo were printed? That can't be done yet. You could *maybe* print the components of a cartridge, but you can't "print" the propellent powder, nor the explosive priming compound. The idea of making your own primers is discussed here:
    http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/archive/index.php/t-294773.html
Even if you could print the individual components of a primer (cup and anvil), and obtain some kind of explosive compound to serve as the actual cap, you would need a pretty sophisticated press set-up to assemble the primers without blowing yourself up.
The gun used in the video fires .45 ACP. In standard factory loads, chamber pressure is around 20,000 psi or below. Printing something that can withstand that pressure is quite a feat. This is a very long way from making a rifle viable though. The Mil Spec for 5.56 ammo runs with a max. pressure of 63,000 psi.

So 3D printers in the future will need to be locked in some sort of safe as one would hope the fathers gun was. See, future thinking.

Yeah I know, you can just pick them up at Walmart. But you never know. . .

So a 5th grader is going to buy gun powder at Walmart now? Learn the hard skill of reloading or creating ammo? Really????? Have you ever tried to create your own ammo?

The technology to simply print a fully functioning firearm with no skill set doesn't exist yet either. But to think this technology is not going to continue to advance to such a point is short sighted.

The OP seems to be cheering for this as a gun rights thing. I'm pointing out that when it gets to that point, we are going to face a problem which will need to be addressed.
