I'm a Christian, but it seems I'm leaning more toward humanism in many ways.

No. Please don't be naive about this. It isn't hypersensitivity.

We need look no further than who is behind many of the laws which seek to legally justify DISCRIMINATING against homosexual people.

I'm to the point now, where I'm not messing around with it anymore... people who are antipathetic toward homosexual people, are people I'm not tolerating anymore; they have only my contempt.

    You are spot-on man.

Not 'all' Christians are homophobic nutcases... but I've known a few in my life. Even as a Christian (one who seeks to follow the way of Christ), I endeavor to separate myself from people who use religion to oppress or persecute others.

I've noticed a significant difference between those who emulate Christ and those who might simply label themselves "Christian". There is a distinction, most times.

You are either very naive or playing ignorant.

He should certainly not have to explain these things to you, in general.

Then again, there are people who probably don't 'know'. :(

What are your thoughts on Buddhism? Over the past few years I went from being a Christian to being an atheist (February two years ago) and I am now currently considering Buddhism. Not that this will change my mind, I'm just curious to hear the OPs thoughts on this.

I suspect people like that use religion as either access or cover.

If the tides go in and the tides go out, God must exist. Why can't people see this compelling argument as proof?

Using religion to oppress people seems rather unChrist like.

Actually, most Christians, most of them being members of the American Taliban, are unChrist like. It is almost as if they have never read the Bible.

Wow. Pastor just said yesterday that the problem in American isn't that people don't believe in God. It's that they believe in many gods. What do you expect from a nation so indiscriminate?

    - - - Updated - - -

What do these gods do for you that the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, didn't do for you?

Many have read it, I'm sure. But the ways that many allow themselves to be 'indoctrinated' by religion, literally weaponizes their lives/faith. Not everyone wearing the label "Christian" is Christlike.

Got a transcript of your pastor's sermon?

Lol. No, sorry. You'll just have to take my word for it. If there's something more you'd like to know, I may be able to recall it.

I simply wonder the 'context' of the Biblical references your pastor related. I think you might need his notes for that info.

Why would there need to be a Biblical reference? It's an observation. The gods we was referring to are the idols in our culture.

I really don't what you pastor is saying, that's all. I'm curious how he meant to justify what he said.

"Idols" are not new problem; not by any means. (I just wonder what else he said, that's all.)

No! That doesn't exist at all !

    How was anyone crucified ?

Or is that just a humungous over-dramatic way of saying they changed a law?

I offer you a Rule #10 call out.

Mostly because that is one the stupidest things I've read in this forum.

Homosexual people are discriminated against frequently; why does that happen?

While not optimal dialogue... that level of generalization is not unusual in this forum.

I would say this: There are many Christians whose faith has been 'weaponized' and they hurt others using the same.

Yeah... optimal would be quite an overstatement, but the level of generalization was just stupid. You have to agree with that.

    Now...

I, as a Christian, agree with you. There are many who use their religious belief as a weapon to attack with. But, that is far from "most Christians".
"Most" Christians, and their churches are very welcoming to those whom they disagree with.

You aren't going to get your message across to people you demonize, or ostracize, or exclude.
People who do that are not acting as Christ would. They may be the loudest portion of a group but they are far from representative.

There are a lot of people on this forum who just plain hate Christianity, and will say anything at all to knock Christians down.
The person I was responding to is just one of many.
