"A man from Independence Township, Michigan, accidentally shot himself to death on Monday while teaching his girlfriend about gun safety, the Oakland Press reports." "In January 2013, 18-year-old Florida resident Alexander Xavier Shaw died doing a similar demonstration. Richard M. McLean, a 22-year-old from Michigan, died in a similar fashion in June 2012. Missouri resident James Looney, 40, was also teaching his girlfriend about gun safety when he shot himself in the head in September 2009." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/25/man-shoots-himself_n_4853983.html And Michelle calls young people 'knuckleheads'.
This isn't about the gun issue resolving itself. You could dig up far more stories about people who die in their efforts to teach others to drive, or "prove" their mastery of it. There are more about people who decide to learn to swim by jumping in the water, and more about people who are sure they can fly. This only demonstrates one of the inherent safeguards that are built into the gene pool. It tries hard to be self cleaning.
It is your broad characterization that gun owners will eventually kill themselves off because they are all as stupid as the ones in your examples? What if I were to post a few examples of, say, poor people killing themselves in amusing ways? And then to proceed to say 'Poverty - the issue that will resolve itself.'? What if I were to post a few examples of, say, black people killing each other in the inner cities, and then proceed to say 'Racism - the issue that will resolve itself.'? Can you see how idiotic your OP is? You want to be taken seriously?
Oh, now you're going to tell me that the gated community set isn't happy to hear about black dope dealers killing other black dope dealers. The comments when something like that happens are ubiquitous and ALWAYS gleeful.
Thousands of Americans shoot themselves in accidents every year. This is what happens when you allow anyone to own a gun.
Amusing that those ignorant of firearms take the most extreme example of stupidity as an argument against guns. Pretty pathetic. Gun safety can be summed up in three rules: Every firearm is loaded (I get IRRITATED at people with handle a gun with a finger on the trigger, it is not the frikken' hard). Do not point it which you do not intend to destroy (I get IRRITATED at people with poor muzzle control, and PISSED when I know the gun is are loaded. It's not that frikken' hard) Be aware of your backstop, and what is behind it. I go through speed drills, and tac drill that involve transitioning between multiple firearms (quickly, and accurately reengaging the target). If I can do that without covering someone with a gun, I believe setting a gun down on the table should easy. Now if someone is stupid enough to hold a loaded gun to their head and pull the trigger, good for them. They (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up and ended their life instead of someone else. Darwin, Who Art in Heaven, cleanse the gene pool.
I missed the part where it's the gun's fault. Thousands of Americans are killed in car crashes every year. This is what happens when you allow anyone to own a car.
Thousands? No. Hundreds. Which is pretty small in a country of 300,000,000+ people with 300,000,000+ firearms. - - - Updated - - - Hundreds of people for guns, and tens of thousands to auto accidents.
http://nyagv.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Accidental-Shootings-NYAGV.pdf Okay but what about that ^
I would actually love to see some stats that do not include the deaths of criminals to inflate the statistics. If you are more likely to accidentally, homocidially, or suicidally die by firearm, why are there more self-defensive uses of firearms than those three combined (618,000 self-defensive uses, Department of Justice)? How do you explain high suicide rates in countries with few guns and strict gun controls? More guns = higher probability of accidental shooting? Was a PhD required to reach that conclusion? Tell me, is a family more likely to experience a drowning death with or without a backyard pool? Is a person more likely to die in an auto accident if they drive or completely abstain from using vehicles? Your single victory in this thread is an increased chance of accidental death, which accounts for .0002% of the population.
You're happy that someone accidentally killed their self... because they're a gun owner. I'm honestly disturbed to hear that you feel/think like that. That's very sick and twisted.
