Ask those people without jobs how it's a bad thing.

Most customers want the personal touch I guess. They may have questions the computers may not be able to answer. There could issues involving money exchange or if the meal isn't prepared to the satisfaction of the customer; obviously there is a reason why they haven't gone this way yet.

They've installed automated checkout at the local supermarket to eliminate workers; its a disaster; half the time you cannot scan the item, it won't accept the credit card, the weight scales don't always function as they are suppose to, the money changers are constantly out of service. I see so many people get frustrated over this and wonder how many go to the market over in the next town where they have human's on the registers and at the help desk.

Anyone who considers McDonald's a life career is only exploited by their own stupidity and lack of aspiration

I don't think any company who is traded on a public stock exchange can prioritize anything but maximum profit. The stock holders demand it!

That's why I think McDonalds is announcing this now... It's hoping that when the vote comes up the stock holders will allow this...

Is that how it works? I don't know, but I've always suspected it.

Hopefully that IS what will happen, and the aim is to put Macdonalds out of business.

Smash Maconalds, smash the Corporate cronyism!

    Allow competition to flourish.

That is the perfect scenario. Because, when the prices get too high, the customers will leave.

Then the 'little guy on the street' can open a burger shop or hot dog stand.

    Libertarianism in action!

McDonalds is on the way out anyway. You may have noticed they have all but abandoned appealing to whites in their advertising. Besides, their food tastes like (*)(*)(*)(*) compared to Culver's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc.

ok, fair enough, but then BK will be the next on the list............ get rid of all those old-style corruption machines - free up the market for anyone to trade.

how about I set up a burger van outside Macd's - no fíng way - that is corruption.

If somebody else is willing to flip burgers for minimum wage, then that is the value of labor for that work.

The problem isn't McDonald's greed. The problem is to many low skilled workers in the market.

You want service industry jobs to pay more, then reduce the influx of works with little our zero marketable skills.

evil greedy people daring to try and maximize profit in a business they risk their own capital in. We should, instead, force them to give their profits to people who
    1. risked nothing
    2. have a very replaceable skill

sorry you are trying to support a family of 4 on minimum wage.... sometimes, your life should serve as an example for future generations, of things NOT to do.

I remember working at Wendy's for "min wage + a nickel" when I was 16-21. I remember Della, a 35 y.o. lady who was the self proclaimed, best crew member who just thought she knew it all that had been with the company for 15 years. She made "min wage + 15 cents"

I used her as my example of what not to do in life. Sure, she could do every position at Wendys, better than everyone else at wendys, including a lot of the management teams.... but really, how valueable was the skillset.... apparently, it was only15 cents above min wage more valueable....

I was never rude to her about it, never pointed out why she was still working at Wendy's in an entry level job at 35..... but I damn sure took mental notes on how to avoid being middle aged flipping burgers for 15 cents above min wage.

She was my motivation. By her poor choices in life, and me being able to see the result of those poor choices.... I was able to stay focused on doing what I needed to do.

I have lost track of Della since I left in 97. I have no dought, she's still in fast food type of job somewhere, earning 15 cents above min wage

every year when the ceo and top execs get a pay raise, I wonder if they think the same thing, we can't give ourselves raises without raising the price of our fries

CEO and top execs receive raises based on performance, not entitlements.

    I know, foreign concept, right?

The woman ahead of me just answered but I'll expound. When CEOs and execs get increased compensation it is based upon the financials of the company and their performance. That's far different than being FORCED to raise wages regardless of the impact to the business or the performance of the employee.

Oh, as long as there is not large scale mass layoffs, we're good. Smaller scale or some layoffs is just fine. Got it.
