    Yes that is very true.

Not trying to get off of the topic but I have many guns beyond the ones I keep next to the bed. Paranoid liberals would accuse me of having an arsenal.

Of the ten hand guns I will admit to owning one was given to me by my dad and another by my grandfather. Two were gifts and two were prizes in shooting competitions. The others were purchased.

Same basic thing for my rifles and shotguns. Some of my most prozed firearms ( and posessions ) were bequethed to me by dad and grandpa etc.

In this day when kids have to buy new xboxes or playstations every couple of years in a consumer culture where everything breaks down and has to be replaced it is nice to have somethings that last.

Take one of the .45 1911 ACP's I own given to me by my dad. It likely saw service in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and god knows where else. And it is still a fine pistol.

They just don't make things like that anymore

They are indeed a sentimental connection but the reality is giving them up would not bring loved ones back. Keeping them and handing them down on the other hand keeps loved ones memories alive.

paranoia is neurotic behaviour, an irrational fear of something that is highly unlikely to ever occur, in this case killed by a stranger while in your bed...carrying a condom is rational because not using one has a very high degree of certianty of contracting sexually transmitted diseases...

As an analogy those are polar opposites...

    Nope to the guns.

I can keep them no one can reverse death however.

They are some of things which built this country and made it what it is. A piece of history in my hands which still works.

Rather presumptious of you to claim what another person values or feels

My best friend died a few years back and his wife gave me his shotgun that he used when we went duck hunting. It means the world to me.

Lol, but I'm right and he agreed...

nope the stats back me up...and of those homicides, homicides by strangers while in your bed would be a ridiculously small Percentage...

    Actually not true.

At the risk of getting way off topic the likely hood of catching a fatal std even with multiple partners such as one night stands is very low among heterosexuals who do not shoot drugs.

No one ever said anything about having guns to avoid being killed IN BED. In all likelyhood one would be awakened and out of bed before killed. The likelyhood of this happening varies depending on where one lives. for people in small town/suburbs like me it is farily low. In the inner cities much higher. Either way it is something which may be unlikely ( just like randomly catching HIV as a hetero non drug user ) but still something stupid to trust to luck without taking precautions

    - - - Updated - - -

No the stats do not back you up because no one said anything about being IN BED.

The fallacy is the old cliche that keeping a gun in general makes it more likely to shoot a loved one than shooting a threat. That old chestnut has been proven false for a long time now.

Watches and stamps were not used to create/ensure future liberty. Guns were

read his response again he did not entirely agree with your presumptuous statement.

You are not right regardless of your pompous decleration

The thread is what gun do you keep by your bed, you'll need to deal with that...you're delusional you have your myths and dammit no one is gonna bring reality into it and ruin your alternate reality...

The stats are there if you want ignore them to continue the delusion thats your problem not mine, I prefer living in reality....

Then you should just cancel your insurance on your home. I mean after all the likely hood of your house burning down or being broke into is remote and it's just paranoia to waste money on such a frivolous thing.

You are a gun hater so you will never get the connection. My dads and grand dads guns remind me of them and great times we had together, a watch is fine but it tells time instead of reminding you of times.

Yes keep by your bed which has nothing to do with using it while still in bed.

It is you creating the myths and alteranet reality of fighting for your life while still in bed.

The stats do not support your fallacy.

I can't have bank mortgage without an insurance policy....and my home is more likely to burn down than for me to be murdered in it...in my city of 1.2 million last year we had over 2500 home fires and 21 homicides, and I'll bet few of those homicides were commited by strangers and likely none by intruders...

No you are denying what he said he was not in agreement.

No they could not have won the revolution or the struggles which followed with bows and arrows, swords, clubs etc.

Now it is you making a false analogy

I haven't and I won't, most people die of the cancers regardless of treament...the odds are far far greater of getting cancer than being killed by an intruder, its almost a certianty...

Don't forget to toss those fire extinguishers in the trash. No need for those things cluttering up the place, since most of them go unused for years and years anyway. I'm sure the fire department will get to your house in plenty of time to save it, in the 'highly unlikely' event that you ever have a fire.

Coming from someone who thinks criticism is agreement I am not surprised at your projecting your lack of comprehension skills on to others.

I have the utmost respect for most of your posts and usually you don't resort to insults. =[

I understand its frustrating not knowing why someone would want a gun, but I own guns and I can assure you I'm not paranoid, I have a healthy amount of concern for the well being of my children.
Home invasions do happen, statistics say they happen more then most people think.
If you could destroy all guns everywhere in the world sure, I would agree with that, we don't need weapons of that level to kill each. We don't need to be killing each other at all.

But look at it realistically we have already created such a insane amount of guns, how will you get them all, how will you stop new ones from being made on the black market?

Banning guns does not really work, and especially in nations that are plentiful in guns such as the US/Germany/Russia/etc.
Places that have seen success with gun restriction laws already had low gun crime to begin with.

Criminals will get guns, do you think the gangs/mafias/cartels that operate inside the US are just going to give up there guns, and/or not find new ways to get guns?
