Really impressive work ethic and dedication shown by this teenager. Kudos to the parents as well for raising him the right way.

 

Excellent story... too bad more do not achieve this feat.

 

Why did we need to know he is an immigrant?

Libs don't like to have that fact pointed out when the story is about a rapist or drunk driver who crashes and kills three people.

 

Makes his story that much more impressive. Comes from a different country, with a different culture and language.

Can you please provide any evidence that he had to scour the internet, that being a minority played any role in it at all, and that the OP even pointed to it?

It helps to give a little context to the father's quote: "You don't know how lucky you are to be in America."

As an immigrant, this kid had many strikes against him, just trying to decode the language and cultural differences alone would be difficult. Yet, because he worked hard AND had parents ensuring he didn't give up, the kid is a bona fide success. And it's something that ANY kid of ANY race can do,if they have the work ethic for it - while posters with the attitude in the quote above (who tend to be liberal) make excuses as to why they can't.

 

Would be a non story if a few things were different ....

 

So this thread would have been made if that had been a white or Asian face next to the article headline? Somehow I don't think an Asian student being accepted to Ivy League Universities would have been as noteworthy and as satisfying to point out.

 

Quality people like this who raised a good son with genuine values, are the exact opposite of people who vote for Obama.

I don't mind crediting immigrants when they achieve.

But how many times have I read or watched TV a story about criminals that reek of illegal alien-ness who never have their immigration status revealed?

Both parents are college grads and even though it doesn't say, I'm guessing the kid grew up here and speaks English as well a any white person does.

 

If revealing their status is not relevant to the crime they committed or not necessary to clarify parts of the story, I don't really see a reason why we ever need to know their residency status or race.

 

The same goes for this kid.

His race or the immigration history of his parents had zilch to do with the story.

Libs have two sets of rules.

One for them and another for everyone else.

Seems kind of disgusting for racists to scour the internet for black teen violence stories that aren't even on the front page of mainstream news sources.... and post them here every day.

 

Like you said, it doesn't say so I'm assuming he didn't. But in the long run, it doesn't matter.

But as far as the parents being college grads, that's likely where the push for junior doing well in school came from. Then again, there's plenty of parents out there without a college ed that push their kids to do well in school as well. It's gotta come from the parents AND the kid.

The other thing is, this kind of success story could happen a lot more often if we didn't live in a culture where being a law-breaking, drug-using, sex-crazed educational failure is viewed of as a good thing.

 

I am sure he is a smart kid, but how much of this is due to his abilities and how much is due to affirmative action? Thats what Id like to know. It is easier to be on the top when others are systematically discriminated against.
