This topic is not about proving something with stats. This is all about gaps in our social system. This is about to let think all over again, where we can fix the things.

 

These horrible incidents will continue indefinitely and I think it's in large part because of the media hoopla that surrounds each of these events. 24 hour news channels, TV talk shows, magazine and newspaper covers. The killers are always front and center, but so too is the pain and suffering they cause which is what they're intending to accomplish by hurting people in the first place. Our relentless media coverage of everything is honestly the biggest advertisement for these types of incidents that we could come up with because we're indirectly glamorizing them for the people mentally ill enough to commit these acts. Granted, highlighting the causes can help with finding solutions too but we're also helping to create more occurrences of the problem.

 

NO! NO! We've got to have Obama issue a decree mandating a TOTAL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BAN on all knives with blades longer than, uh... oh, hell, I don't know -- how about 2.36 inches?! Yeah, 2.36 inches! And while we're at it, why do we need screwdrivers, or pencils, or drill bits to be more than 2.36 inches long?! We don't need more tools! We just need to force employers to hire more people, and pay them all a minimum wage of $15 and hour to use the new socially-conscious shorter knives and tools! I can see it there, shimmering on the horizon, the vision of a new hyperlib Utopia, and it begins with a 2.36 inch-long knife!

If I got stabbed and witnessed many around me also being stabbed, I'd probably spend the rest of my life being afraid of guns and maybe horses.
