Meh. I think the problem is more in denial than in existence of racism. Racism is going to be around for awhile, and we should be doing what we can to mitigate the effects of it. No matter what they are. Justifying obvious racism or denying it only leads to confusion, or worse to acceptance.

When we see someone say something racist it would be better if we just pointed out the inaccuracy or inappropriateness of what they are saying , and made no big deal about the individual speaking.

Statistical fact....vast majority of heavily minority municipalities have been controlled by Democrats since the 1960s. I am not arguing the cause of their problems I am stating that they keep voting the same people into power over and over again for 60 years no and the situation has not improved and in fact by many measurements has gotten worse. The Democrats get part of the blame for their awful War on Poverty and black voters get the other part of the blame for consistently voting overwhelmingly for those same people. Every other minority group has managed to improve their lot and some of them like Asians and Midde Easterners and even blacks from Africa do better than native born white people. This is a cultural issue at heart and until there is are major changes in how black society wants to proceed then they will continue to fall behind every other group in the country. You can't have generations of kids raised in fatherless homes on the welfare cycle and not expect there to be negative consequences. Unfortunately when people like Bill Cosby or Don Lemon even speak about it they are ostracized by the same people they are trying to help.

 

I would say being a murderer or a rapist has to be worse than being a racist. If somebody doesn't like me cuz of my skin color, I can't say as I really care until they act on the feeling.

 

I think we are just arguing about the definiton. Psychology clearly shows that even among children with no preconceptions about race they tend to gravitate to people of similar looks if they have been raised in a monocultural setting. This is just human nature. Only if you are raised in a multicultural setting does the influence decrease. Since even big cities are segregated most Asian and white kids tend to be raised in monocultural settings as well as most black children. We had this experiment with school busing where black kids where bused to various schools to increase the mix and all that happened is that the school kids segregated themselves. Black kids sat with black kids and white kids sat with white kids.

If you are talking about malicious racism then I agree that most people are not like that today clearly demonstrated by the fact that even powerful people like Sterling are immediately ostracized for their views and virtually no one will come to his defense.

 

Blacks have never been racist toward me. It must be the way you're interacting with them that sets them off.

No, being a racist isn't the worst thing in the world. If the racist in question is the bad owner of a bad professional basketball team in the USA, a sport that depends more on Black fans than any of the other professional sports, then being a racist against Blacks probably is close to the worst thing in the world.
