. Well, we can dream, can't we? Seems a bunch of liberals shoved a Carbon Emissions Tax down the throats of Aussies and, when it hit the fan, they quickly voted them out of office to replace them with politicians who got the message. So sad we can't do that here? For those who need a ray of sunshine in the political dreariness we face here in the USA, read more @ http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/62952#When:10:55:13Z
The former government was so riven with factional infighting that it got the electorate offside. Now we have a government that has a PM who is the most unpopular in history in his first few months in office. If they last one term then they won't see another.
Firstly, I don't see the relevance to the thread. Secondly, as even the opinion polls do not mark the PM as the most unpopular, what evidence do you have? Gillard and Rudd in various times throughout their leadership have had far lower or do you forget the back stabbing???
In Australia, it must be reduced. Just imagine a country where over 50% of the working population are employed by the government. Over 50% people who provide nothing but government services to the economy must mean that less than that is actually contributing. How can a country survive? Well imagine no more, according to the commissions Australia is that country. Is this just an ALP created problem??? NO, but they are the worst, continuing to grow the public sector for own personal gain. When you deal with the public service you suddenly realise just how bad things are when you cannot even find a person who will do the job they are employed to do. They simply pass you from pillar to post in an attempt to palm you off. There is so many more people to pass you onto that many just simply give up.
Don't forget idiot, incompetent people within those Departments Garry, where the majority wouldn't know whether they are male or female unless they looked between their legs.
The public service actually does a reasonable job running the country, despite having to deal with politicians.
As my father told me of his experience in the public service, those people generally get pushed up. Department heads do their best to hold on to workers who can actually do their job and the only way to go in the public service is up. He believed that the poo has finally risen to the surface as it generally does.
This isn't a "game" garry. You make a statistical claim, you ought to be able to provide the evidence. 1 891.3 thousand employees, across all levels of government. Not even anywhere close to 50% of workers, more like 16-17%. http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/6248.0.55.002/ http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/6202.0
That includes state and local. Presumably military, police and other essential services too. Nice work Ziggy, for what Garry should have supplied. For my first contribution in, what, a year - i'd say Garry was just pwned.
Australia aims to nearly halve budget deficit in a year It will truly be interesting to see if they can make this work. Read more @ http://www.bbc.com/news/business-27387455 So, what do you think?
Doesn't change the fact they are top heavy and wasteful. When you have multiple departments doing the same thing, it seems a bit stupid. To put some perspective on it, this isn't a party issue as both sides of the political divide have contributed to the over abundance of bureaucrats that we have currently. The way I see it when you have a bureaucrat heading a department on more money than the PM, you have a glaring inequity in the system.
You would be mistaken http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/Lookup/6248.0.55.002Explanatory Notes12011-12?OpenDocument And From the same source. Not playing games??? Apparently pretending these links tell the true story is serious matter... Again READ the commission of Audit, things might surprise you.
You're the one playing games garry. Just quote the section of the audit where they state unequivocally that the government employs over 50% of the working population of Australia. It's really that simple. There is nowhere in the audit that states this supposed "fact" of yours. Seriously, if it exists, just quote it, or else just admit that you made it up.
Government will never reduce itself. What the Abbott government has done is slightly reduce the rate of acceleration of government. That's better than the alternative, but it's still pretty s***house. We really have no recourse. They've got us by the balls. To add to the difficulties, most Australians are quite content with theft. They love it. They want more.

There's one word I'd use to describe Australian politics: Progressive. Public health is the single determining factor in policy. Liberty has no voice.
Something better than politicians and Governments that keep wasting and squandering our tax money on stuff "they" think is important.
No, that's anarchy, and benefits no one. The US is reliant on foreign commodities, and there is no possible way to abolish institutionalism without starving out our nation.
