The problem with this debate is that there is no convincing those who refuse to think through the economic incentives. That is, certain people in this thread have repeated the line to themselves that the bankers and the rich are to blame for everything, that the only reason the posters in here don't have as much wealth is because someone has taken it from them. As can be seen, their arguments make little sense, but this thread marches on because they are insistent their "facts" require no logical reasoning.

The greatest gift Americans could give the rest of the world would be to "ignore" it. But you are still in training.

Now get the **** off my phone.

The majority of opinions expressed in this thread are laughably naive, as usual.

We will "ignore" what we want to. We will get involved in what WE want to. You, your country, and everyone else combined are powerless over those facts.

Sucking up is in your best interest. This attitude you have is not. What-a ya say Ang, you ready to dance for daddy?

There never is any point except to poke holes in the complacency of people whose opinions are cast in stone. It will not cure the disease but putting them on the operating table may alleviate some of the symptoms.

PS: I do not believe in resuscitating patients already in a coma. Put them on a drip and move on.

And just to show how open-minded I am, the rich are responsible for only most of the things that afflict the poor. They are not responsible for how badly they sing.

Yes, I heard a grotesque CIA chief of South America say something similar. And we all know what the US did to preserve the convenient South American dictators. But they have been overwhelmed by democratic movements, as you will be. Fortunately, because you are not entirely primitive, the casualty rate will merely reflect the extent to which the various parties are armed. Did you know you have thousands of militias waiting to use armories each the size of Albania's?

It seems that much of the US military is recruited from people who are already nuts. http://www.nih.gov/news/health/mar2014/nimh-03.htm

The military does have appeal to mentally ill people, be it because they seek the structure and discipline of the military bubble or because they have some Rambo delusions, but I would still put "I don't want to go to college and don't want to stay around here" as the biggest driver of recruitment.

They/we are always the losers, because most of us can't see the overal result of what power politics and deception does.
It fundamentally sets populations/societies in motion, new (political) movements occur (reorganization of society by all kinds of changes and forces), and eventually new history is caused.
Oppression is causing political struggle, resistance, (new) movements, and eventually new history. Very hard to stop this process, because people start to go into the defence when their freedoms and rights are oppressed/taken away (real or by deception, it's the same result)

I would have thought it was all rather obvious. Grotesque economic inequality, corporate capture of the political system (such as it is), savage environmental degradation with obvious human health consequences, wars that are neither just nor winnable, bullying foreign policies, a health system that is one of the worst in the OECD, rampant urban violence, corrupt police forces, and a corrupt judiciary.

Perhaps many Americans have become innured to the perversions in the society they live in. The prospect of their creating "new history" is exceedingly dim.

Your unsupported diatribes are meaningless. You have cast your beliefs in stone and you therefore require no evidence to support your beliefs anymore. That is why your arguments are unconvincing.

My arguments will always be "unconvincing" and/or meaningless to some people. Some people will find them so unconvincing/meaningless as to give them derogatory names like "diatribe". I generally find that those people lack the ability to distinguish shades of meaning or exercise flexibility of mind. In psychological terms I understand they call it projection.

    to op
you obviously know-nothing of the crash of 2008 the main culprits were Fanny May and Freddie Mac and the forcing of low lending standards by the government where even the guy working at burger king could buy a house. Then the banks would stamp triple A ratings on these crap bonds. The result was a boom in the economy but massive debt and an eventual bust. the governments manipulation of the market was the main culprit.

I see you are a tea celebrant. Did you know that tea numbs the mind and produces a condition that makes its addicts wave meaningless and unconvincing placards at rallies sponsored by corporate billionnaires?

I am pretty sure I have shown enough evidence to convince at least a few people here that American exceptionalism is a delusion induced by tea. But then this is a conservative site. On other American sites more coffeely-inclined, disturbingly large numbers of your compatriots usually agree with me.:woot:

I am well aware what a weak president Clinton was. And I have little time for his wife or mistress - who seems to have hit the news again for her Oval office antics. I assume she is now treating Republicans to their jollies.
