Name one other country in the world that does not either restrict gun ownership to the point where it is almost impossible to get a gun or ban gun ownership altogether. Like James Madison said, "Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust them with arms." The price of freedom is that you have to risk tragedies like this. I would not oppose measures to guarantee that certain people (Such as people with a criminal record, or people who have been diagnosed with certain mental disorders) do not get guns, however you cannot just go slapping restrictions on anything that may possibly be dangerous because one guy goes in a rampage where he kills and injures more people with his car and his knives than with his guns.
Whenever something like this happens, the conspiracy theories that come out are usually pretty amusing.
It is to me, since the definition of what "serious mental issues" are is quite malleable. Left up to interpretation. If you so much as have depression, you could lose your guns.
I couldn't help but notice how a Canadian is lecturing Americans on their laws. And luckily, the 2nd Amendment tells us who gets to be around weapons, not you.
duh! You can get a gun without purchasing from a dealer. You ever hear of a hot gun? You are crazy and want a gun, you can buy one on the street from a criminal.
We can't even control who comes across the border, much less guns. We can't control guns in prison. People can make guns. The answer is, yes, we can't control guns. We can't control drugs, we can't control murder, we can't control rape, we can't control auto theft, etc. But I guess you have a better idea.
You can't regulate a criminal, i.e., someone who wants to murder. It ain't the gun that's killing. There are many ways to commit mass murder without a gun.
Honestly, I can't think of an easier way to commit mass murder than with a gun. Are there alternatives that are as viable?
well doing nothing isn't much of a solution, so if given a choice, I guess I will go with whatever the other side is willing to try.
