I'd be willing to bet there's more to this story than is being reported here. Bottom line, if a business a sign on their door saying no saggy pants... you probably shouldn't go there wearing saggy pants.

The owner was obviously within his rights, but he probably he won't get many gay customers. In Pittsburg, Texas, I'd be surprised if he ever did.

Uh oh... looks like I spoke too soon. Could be the Great Texas Bubba vs Gay war in Pittsburg.

I am sure that most of the bait shop dining elite will support Earl and his "no queers" policy. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a publicity stunt pulled by Earl to drum up some business. This part of the country is lagging behind a bit in the area of gay acceptance. However not too far behind. For example, I live in southern California close to West Hollywood. One of the oldest establishments there is a bar restaurant called Barney's Beanery. Twenty something years ago, the matches that were given out at the bar at Barney's said: Fa***ts Stay Out! Times change...

Actually, many gay men in Dallas come from East Texas. I'm always amazed to meet another gay guy from Texarkana or Longview. My brother's partner was from Texarkana and we used to laugh about there being something in the water there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gay men staged this event to draw attention to a family they consider bigots. Probably try to wreck his business to prove their point.

Way to fight for acceptance. One step forward and two steps back.

Yeah, oh the drama indeed. All this hulabaloo over a guy putting his legs into his boyfriend's lap under the table. They were so bothered by it they actually had to pull the customers aside as they were leaving and tell them it was bothersome (not to mention flat out insulting their patrons by calling them (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s, what polite Southern behavior). Good lord.

I guess the owner will need to adjust his sign, "Where men act like men, women act like ladies. No saggy pants, and no gays playing footsies under the table!!!" Hahahahaha...

So many of these kinds of whiney hurt feelings things turn out to be made up. A waitress wrote the n-word on a receipt and claimed she got no tip. She got over $11K sent to her. The patrons she accused are suing Red Lobster now. A gay couple spray painted slurs on their garage then claimed victimhood. It's some kind of strange sickness.

The bottom line for me is why give strangers so much power? The n-word, f-word or any other word shouldn't have that kind of power.

I agree, being a homo myself, I tend to not get upset by being called all sorts of things.

I think the drama was over Bubba's daughter calling folks (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s. I am sure that is a term of endearment amongst many folks that frequent combination bait stores/restaurants, but most reasonable people find it at least mildly offensive.

On edit. I apparently made the mistake of calling Big Earl, a moniker no doubt spawned from his giant intellect, Bubba. I realize there is probably a fine distinction between obese fellows who wear suspenders, and I wholeheartedly apologize for any insult, perceived or actual, my error may have caused.

True. I'm sure there's more to this story than meets the eye.

I suppose a gay couple could stir things up in just about any rural town in America. Appears this couple did so by playing footsy w/crotch under the table. Can't blame the foul mouth waitress for her decision. Who wants to watch that kinda action while they're having breakfast? :puke:

Apparently the waitress, as they were not asked to leave, but rather enjoyed what was certainly well balanced breakfast, paid the bill, and then were called (*)(*)(*)(*).

But you can't blame the waitress for calling them (*)(*)(*)(*), as you stated, so am I to expect such vitriol, base, ignorant, and bigoted that it is, meets your approval? Or rather should we just universally condemn the remark and not try to excuse it?

That's rich, TFM. Your stereotypes are always so vivid. Appears you and Big Earl have that in common.

Do you think BE should apologize for his daughter?

Ah, got to lob the little insult. Charming.

Do I think he should apologize for his daughter's ridiculously bigoted,, ignorant, homophobic, hateful remark? Frankly, I don't give a flying (*)(*)(*)(*). If he wants his bait shop/restaurant to portray him as a stereotypical (*)(*)(*)(*)wit bigot, more power to him. If he wishes to further the stereotype of Texas being loaded with pot bellied, sub average IQ good old boys whose employees call people (*)(*)(*)(*) while he is touting his love of the Christ myth, then good for him.

I just find it some funny that you are attempting to justify his daughter's comment.

What part of calling her a foulmouth do you consider justifying what she said? I said she had a valid reason to ask them (nicely) not to return to their restaurant. I admit she was rude. Now you admit playing crotch footsy under the table was rude as well.

I am unclear here. So is calling someone a (*)(*)(*) acceptable behavior or not? I state it is unacceptable.

I agree... it's totally unacceptable. If I were those guys, I'd never set foot in that place again.

On the other hand, retaliation is ridiculous. We all learned 'sticks & stones' when we were children. For some reason, gays seem to have missed that lesson.

Must be the hyper sensitivity syndrome (aka drama). [IMG]

There seems to be hypersensitivity all around. Why bother telling leaving patrons that you thought their playing footsies was icky? Why would anyone think footsies under a restaurant table is icky anyways? Talk about sensitive.

You're right, the whole thing is full of hypersensitivity, however calling a gay person a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) is the equivalent of calling a black person a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*). Whereas footsies is not even close to the same level of offensive as either of those words. Gimme a break.

Wow. That was tough, wasn't it? Admitting that homophobia and bigotry are unacceptable.

Why? That is the power of the free market in the instant information age.

Just can't let it go without making a derogatory, hateful, bigoted statement? Just can't one time, one single time, refrain form making a homophobic statement. Just one tome, not making a snotty, derogatory, hurtful statement attacking gays.

Leftwing blogs are having a field day with this story, no doubt inciting 'feelings of outrage' from the gay community.

Here's Daily Kos version (by blogger Chrislove)

Don't wear saggy pants at Big Earl's either. He obviously doesn't approve.

Words are merely words. Actions speak louder. This story is proof of that.

Riiight. The action of playing footsies. I mean gee, would they have shot the two guys if they'd been holding hands too? How awful that they, an intimate couple, think of being even remotely intimate in public.

By the way, words are a lot more powerful than you think. Perhaps you should watch this study.

Another experiment by Jane Elliot on the power of words.

What I find sad is when people brush off the true power words have on people citing the old children's song, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Well that's just not true.

Words do have a very strong hold over us. How we speak towards others is a sign of how much or how little we respect them as human beings, how we view them as equal to us or as less than human to us.

You can pretend all day and night that words have no effect on people, but the fact is that they do.

Perhaps both sides were offended in this situation, one side offended by certain behaviors, which by the way were not even directed towards them, only done in their presence and they observed from a distance and became offended (quite possibly because they live under the assumption that men and women are the only one who should be intimate with one another) and the other offended by directly and personally being called (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s. Hypersensitivity on both ends, but it would be silly to pretend our actions and especially our words have no effect on people.

Point is... if the guys hadnt put on a display of gayness, none of this would've happened. Wonder why it is gay men can't keep their body parts off each other in public? Remember the gay guys who kissed in the back of a cab and the Muslim driver put them out? Same kinda deal. Dont wanna be judged? Stop with the PDAs.

there you go. you never established that your little story that they were crotch grabbing was fact. Now its not just this couple in the restaurant...Now it's all gays.

typical for you. make up crap, then crap on everyone. What you believe gay folk have learned is meainingless and irrelevant. When a gay person comes to your restaurant you will follow th law like everyone else or your ass will be out of business...You better learn that.

Indeed, I have always found the blame the victim mentality very interesting. Let's put your theory into otehr scenarios.

If only that guy was not black, the white guys would not refer to them as the big, bad n word.

If only that woman's breast were not so large, folks would not group her as they walked by.

In retrospect, your theory does not sound so good. It sounds like bigotry blaming these who are targeting for bigotry for their actions. I find it fascinating that calling some a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) is the fault of the guy gay who was called (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*).
