Should we lower the age of consent to 14?

There are many people who should not procreate. Maybe encouraging masturbation is a good idea for some?

Anyone who thinks criminalizing adultery isn't consonant with liberty, doesn't understand what liberty is.

I'm afraid I'm at a loss to understand how rights can have any concern for anything at all. That aside, since you claimed there were beneficial consequences to lowering the AoC, I think your response may safely be deemed evasive.

All by itself, that's not very interesting.

NC handles the age of consent a little differently from most. We have a sliding scale that starts at 14.

A 14 year old can legally consent to anyone not related to them between the ages of 14 and 18. A 15 year old can legally consent to anyone not related to them between the ages of 14 and 19.

16 is the unconditional age of consent.

I think the sliding scale is a more realistic way of handling this issue, since it's pretty obvious that most people begin sexual activity before 18.

If you've signed an agreement with a spouse to be together forever, under pain of imprisonment or arbitration, or whatever - then yeah, I have no beef with you carrying out that agreement. But that is in fact not what most (if any) marriage contracts have in them.

Semantics. I said protecting rights is the benefit (or rather, not punishing victimless crimes), not pleasant consequences.

If homosexuality is not deviant anymore, then I don't see why it shouldn't be.

Because having sex is a natural aspect of being a human. If we are going to imprison people for having sex, then it would be logically consistent to also imprison people for eating, drinking or breathing.

    Nonresponsive drivel.

No you didn't; but now that you have, it's reasonable to conlude that you labor under the illusion that consensuality makes right - most likely because you are blissfully oblivious to the distinction between license and liberty.

Get back to me when you have something better to offer than Texas sharpshooting.

May I point out that the generation that raised the likes of John Adams
would be completely shocked at this child expressing what she expresses.
there are some things that are better when you wait for the right time
rather than simply act on impulse.

    Heh!

I suspect that generation was much less genteel than you imagine.

    Right back at you.

"So the benefit is that you prohibit less consensual activity."

Yes, you appear to have quoted yourself accurately. Unfortunately, while your original assertion is merely vacuous, your "clarification" is nonsensical.

My, but aren't we thenthitive. :)
