Two of the United States' most recognizable military aircraft -- a pair of B-2 stealth bombers -- caught the eyes of residents as they arrived in Europe this week for training.

obviously these are being sent to warn Russia against any more aggression.

Russia provoked all of this by invading Crimea, annexing Crimea, and now invading Ukraine.

Not a threat of any kind. B-2s can only fly one mission per day as their stealth coatings have to be recovered after every mission and those coatings also fall apart in water.

And IIRC, there are only three air bases in the world that have the environmentally protected hangars to house B-2s. One is at Whitman, one is a Diego Garcia and I do not thing the other is in Europe (could be wrong).

Now if the U.S. starts sending half a dozen or more B-1Bs. Major issue.

Remember the "invincible" stealth fighter that was shot down during the Kosovo conflict in Bosnia. Rumor has it that Russian Special Forces, armed with night vision goggles and a guided missle, shot down the plane. The S-300 is capable of shooting down F-15's and F-16's, and the newer S-400, according to the Russians, can shoot down advanced stealth aircraft (F-35, F-22, and B2 Stealth Bomber). The Russians have non-nuclear EMP missles that can devestate the EU's or US's civilan and military populations. Their advanced tactical covential Surface-to-Surface missles (and nuclear) are built to defeat the Patriot missle system, by deploling flares if it senses an approaching missle, and by diverging seperate missles for a single missle to multiple targets. Their miG-35's are world class, as are their SU-30's and 35's. Have fun America trying to defeat Russia, it won't be a cakewalk like Iraq. We'll end up like Hitler or Napoleon freezing to death. The Russians fought and won the most brutal war in history. The GPS's we relied on in Iraq won't work now that Russia shut them off.

You seem to forget US forces are all combat tested in severla wars, Russians, not so much.

 

Well, in the cases in has gone up against Russian (Soviet) stuff, it was outdated. In Iraq, the outdated T-72s made 20-30 years before went up against a newer tank, the Abrams (World class, only the Leopard is rated better). When it's closer in when they were manufactured, their about equal. In Desert Storm, the miG-29 went against the the F-15, and we told are pilots to avoid engaging it, even though they can out with 2-3 years of each other.

 

What a sad, sad thought, the US trying to rekindle the Cold War with today's Russian Federation while our old military project Iraq falls to bloody pieces.

 

Russians are such bad guys they cannot even take care of some rebels in the territories, about to be countries, on their southern border. Yeah, they will be able to take on the US, GB, Germany, France, Poland and every other country in Europe and around the world. Putin is an idiot and it will cost many Russians their lives if he continues down his path of conquest. American are such bad guys they always bomb all ... to make life in America better? Can't find other way? And they repeat history of the Roman Empire - which as a result collapsed.
Before Americans were proud of what their country revived the principles of the Roman democracy: division of the authorities, equality of citizens before the law and selectivity of officials. Now in the American society there is a request for others - "imperial" - motives.

 

It is my understanding from several sources that the outer coating on its skin dissolves in the rain. Making it progressively less stealthy the longer it is exposed. That isn't to say it will show up on radars like a B-52. It still has an overall minimum aspect shape. Just to say its radar reflection will be larger than it would be otherwise after that coating degrades.

 

In modern warfare there is a name for tanks. They are called targets.

 

Just you have no sense of humor. Pilot flew to kill defenseless civilians. The elderly, women, children. Thought - no one sees (invisible plane). But the old Russian missile destroyed the newest (and very expensive) plane. And the pilot was not able to kill dozens of people. Is not it funny? You do not rejoice with dozens, maybe hundreds, of survivors?
