Are you a strange eater?

Loved rattlesnake and alligator, but then again you could deep fry my Tony Lamas and I'd probably eat em. Ostrich, not so much, too lean for my tastes. Other foods I've enjoyed include, frog legs, buffalo, rabbit, wild boar and cabrito along with a variety of different insect larvae.

My wife has an odd quirk, peanut butter on flour tortillas.

Hmmm, interesting. I'm the same way about peanut butter... spread it on a flat rock, and I'd probably eat it! Might have to try the flour tortilla thing. Maybe with a lil cinnamon too?

 

Sorry, Leo. Drumsticks are ice cream cones, dipped in chocolate and nuts. (They're also chicken legs) Lucky Charms are dry cereal with little marshmallow bits. And brownies are more like little chocolate cakes and sometimes laced with cannabis.

How bout that kidney pie? And what the heck is Yorkshire Pudding?

Peanut/almond butter, honey, and crushed peanuts/almonds wrapped in a flour tortilla.

One of my favorite breakfast dishes is black licorice pancakes. Or black licorice anything. I just like licorice.

Strawberry or raspberry jam to dip pizza in. (I'm dead serious about this one- probably my weirdest food quirk)

I tend to eat "dinner/lunch" meals as breakfast (this morning I ate a tuna salad sandwich and a cup of soup)

I like cook a lot, except my idea of cooking is just throwing different stuff in a pot and hoping it tastes good. Usually it does. My family insists that I have no functioning taste buds, though, so I guess I can't really be sure.

I don't like chocolate that much. Is that weird?

 

That was calamari. Alligator has a texture similar to soft chicken or firm fish.

 

Hey, those brownies with cannabis sound good! I don't smoke (can't - tried once and nearly choked to death,) so that would be a cool way to get high.

Don't like 'snake and kidney' pie - I don't mind the steak bit, but I don't eat any offal.

Have you not had Yorkshire pud? It's yum with roast beef, or lamb, or even pork.



But the weirdest English food IMO, is black pudding - aka, blood sausage - I don't eat it.

 

Interesting... it's rare to find a black licorice lover. I can only imagine what the pancakes look/taste like.

Pizza dipped in jam... that's another new one on me. How did you even think to try that combination?

I sometimes eat breakfast at night, but stick to breakfast food in the mornings. The exception is that I like mustard on my MickeyD's biscuit & sausage.

Dunno about not liking chocolate much, but I'd say you qualify as a strange eater! Congrats... you've won yourself a big ole bowl of licorice ice cream!

Everybody nearly chokes to death... that's the point.

Maybe I have had Yorkshire pud and I just didn't know what it was. And yeah... the black pudding looks gross. Why is everything called 'pudding'? Do you guys have regular pudding, too?

I am the cook of the house, and I have (all modesty aside) invented many really great dishes that have proven to be very popular among friends and family.

I would LOVE to make it a place for us cooks and chefs to get new ideas and new inspiration.

Maybe you did - Yorkshire Pudding is sometimes called Batter Pudding (but not very often). It is fairly common throughout the British world (UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) but I dunno about Canada and the United States. Lots of common foods seem to have different names in different societies. Like Plum Pudding is usually called Christmas Pudding in Australia and New Zealand (and largely unheard of in the USA and Canada). Also Spotted Dick is not widely known even in Australia, even though it is just a steamed pudding with currents or raisins and other dried fruit.

I think the word pudding stems from the Norman invasion, and the word 'boudin', and it applies to any sweet or savoury item which is steamed or lightly baked. In our house we always called the sweet after a meal 'pudding' and never 'dessert', and it was the same at my school.

And, yes we have lots of puddings (here are just a few) -

A plum pudding



A chocolate pudding



A caramel custard pudding



Spotted dick (usually had with custard)



And LOL, the only strange eating habit I have is that I always eat the vegetables on my plate first, and the protein last. This habit comes from school dinners, where you didn't get any pudding (dessert to Americans) if there was any veg left on your plate.

 

I like to add corn to spaghetti.

And I'll make my own sauce out of tomato sauce, garlic powder, and salt.

 

Or ranch and baked potatoes

 

That's nothing. My wife likes cheese on her pancakes. I don't think I have any food quirks, but I have eaten some strange things. I like scorpions, horse, crab brains, and chicken cartilage. Oh, I do like to eat French Fries with mayonnaise mixed with wasabi.

Yea, it creeps me out, too. I tried it once. It wasn't bad, per-say, but I won't do it again.

No, thanks. My father probably would, though. I do know where I can get some salmon ice cream.

I wonder what's so weird about spinach pizza. I eat that all the time.
I also had a phase when I liked nutella with mustard. It got better.

Pizza = unhealthy

Hmm let's see...

I like to eat everything in sandwich form. If I'm eating a roll with my dinner I will shove everything else into it. I also like to put spaghetti and meatballs between garlic bread.

I smear peanut butter on brownies and sometimes I just eat spoonfuls of the stuff but I don't think that's too weird.

I'll eat mustard on almost anything. I like ketchup on my pizza and eggs, and I'd rather put ketchup on steak than steak sauce. I also like ketchup on my fish.
