And if you don't like Tom Cruise too much it's a cool movie and Emily Blunt and Paxton are really good.

Vice versa. The movie is based off of the manga.

That's what I meant. Poor wording on my part.

I thought "Top Gun" and "War of the Worlds" sucked out loud considering what might have been. "Edge of Tomorrow" was actually pretty good summer fare.

Just saw it in IMAX 3D. Pretty good movie.

Favorite line: "Ohh, what was he thinking?"

I finished the manga and am glad that I didn't spoil it for myself :) The ending was pretty good. Now I can see the movie...

    Saw it tonight.
The Matrix meets Groundhog Day is about as close a comparison I can make without ruining for those still wanting to see it.

It's a good movie, I recommend it. It's doing terrible at the box office, which means we're stuck with juvenile science fiction movies along the lines of the "Transformers" series. Yes I said it, Transformers is eye candy and little else, but it sells and that's where the producers put their money. Edge of Tomorrow is a quality science fiction movie.

You care about the two protagonists by the end of the movie. It isn't just dazzling CGI action and little else. There is actually some character development.

I give this 4 out of 5. One of the better science fiction movies I've seen in a very long time.

It's disappointing how poorly it's doing at the box office.

It has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It has 8.2 at IMDB. That last one means the people seeing think it's really good.

The problem is the advertizing. I've noticed that adds for it are really terrible. Tom Cruise looks bad in the armor in the posters and the TV spots are weak. Which is unfortunate because it's a great story.

Some teen-age love story iis the #1 box office movie. I have realized why the vast majority of films today are underwhelming tripe. A quality movie like Edge of Tomorrow will flop and movie producers will be afraid to go out on a limb and make an original movie. I should qualify that,Edge of Tomorrow is really nothing new, it takes from several themes that have been done before. Alien invasions, time loops, and futuristic soldiers. What was different is that this movie is by far the best "video game" movie that has ever been made. It literally is like a video game..you play the same parts repeatedly, get a new life, and get better and better until finally the Big Boss battle. Only when you face the Big Boss you realize you only have one life left, defeat them or game over. The aliens looked like they could be straight out of the Matrix, the dark humor was similar to Ground Hog day, but the movie worked. Plausible enough, that you suspend your belief that he really could be stuck in a time loop and having to explain to the same people he encounters over and over gradually progressing to an end goal.

People either like or hate Tom Cruise, they only see a wacky Scientologist and ignore the fact he has put out some quality movies in the best 5 years or so a notch above the standard Comic book themes and teen age romances. This movie is a thinking person's science fiction movie and sadly it will end up in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart in a few months. It won't be re-discovered until later, much like Blade Runner, as a fresh approach to the genre.

My daughter will not go see Tom Cruise movies because of Scientology. I couldn't give a flying frap.

But if this was another MI movie, it would be doing just fine.

I don't know whether it is timing or advertising- this is a fine movie and deserves to be seen- it may build some momentum as people see it and recommend it.

    .

I've loved SciFi all the way back to when The Forbidden Planet was a current film. But am picky on kudos.

I have to give this one a 2TU. Especially in the current stream of mostly crap SciFi coming out of Hollywood.

    see and enjoy !

Ok, I'm sold. Going to have to watch it. I tend to avoid Cruise---maybe because he's gotten a bit "plastic" looking. Not sure. But noticed a raving review regarding the movie in our newspaper and thought I might give it a shot.

I heard it was pretty good, though I haven't seen it yet myself. I think the reason for its lack of success at the box office had to do with marketing and its competition from other movies released in the same week.

I'd barely even heard of it up until it was already in theaters, and even then, I turned my nose up at it- it seemed like the same kind of trippy sci-fi flick that Hollywood's already rehashed several times before. There wasn't much advertising for it, at least as far as I know.

Also, think about what else was playing- The Fault in Our Stars and How To Train Your Dragon 2 were some of the most highly anticipated films of the year. I haven't seen 22 Jump Street myself, but from what I understand, it also had a pretty big fanbase to back it up, too. TFIOS, in my opinion, wasn't all that great, but it's the kind of flick young adult women and teenage girls will flock to more than once (I should know. I was dragged against my will). HTTYD 2 was also really good, got fantastic reviews, and pretty much well-received by everyone who saw it. 22 Jump Street was supposedly very ironically funny and attractive to the same kind of age group as TFIOS and HTTYD2. Also, early June is when schools let out for summer. These movies attract teenagers like magnets.

Most of these movies also have the benefits of belonging to franchises- better (and more) use of marketing, plus its a "safe" option for people who want to see a movie in which they already have an idea of the plot and/or characters.

I might go see it while it's still in theaters, since I've heard so many good things about it. I'm a sucker for a good action flick anyway.

I saw it. I felt it was a bit lacking though. It may have been too short. The aliens looked cool though.

The movie was quite good. Plenty of action and humor. The writer kept it interesting. The ending just felt really wrong.

That is what actually drew me to read the book - I wanted to see how the original ending was.

Reading the book, you see that the movie was only loosely adapted from it. The lead character, the premise of the mimics, the relationship between the lead and the female, the method of fighting and the battle itself were all very different from the book. The ending in the book fit the story far better. The book also explains where the mimics come from, why they fight, and gives a reasonable explanation of the time loop - all things that the movie lacks.

I recommend watching the movie before you read the book. The movie was good on its own, but pales in comparison to the book.
