    Simple question.

Do you automatically thing less of someone who is of the opposite political or religious party?

If you are a democrat, and you meet someone who identifies as a republican, do you immediatley think less of that person?

Or Religion? If your a christian, do you automatically think less of a muslim? An atheist? Or vice versa?

Yes. But, I am quite willing to adjust if I'm proven wrong. If I met a liberal who was rational, responsible, and reasonably honest I would certainly deal with them as a worthwhile anomaly.

Not really anymore. I'll admit that I used to when I was younger (like early- mid teens), but the more I interacted with people of different political beliefs/religions/whatever, it lessened.

In regards to (America) politics, I know most people identify as one thing or the other because there's really only two choices. I can only speak from my own experience on this, but most people I've talked to seem to share similar sentiments towards certain topics, even if their ideas concerning the details differ. I like to think most people are more centered than they are far-left or far-right.

As for religion...never really judged people on that to begin with. I know devoted Christians, Muslims, Jews, and as long as they're not in my face about it, I don't really care. My personal belief is that all religions are just variations in worship of the same higher power(s)...so no single religion is right or wrong.

Frankly, I've never actually had a good experience with an atheist. Sorry. I don't have a problem with atheism, but if any atheists could kindly refrain from insulting me for my religious beliefs and practices, then that would be great. Thanks.

In general, I like to think that people are just people- we differ, but we're all more or less the same. I like to also think that most people are good, also, even if their personalities rub me the wrong way.

If I do judge people, it's usually because of age. I'm 19, and I know it makes me a total hypocrite, but teenagers drive me nuts sometimes. So many of them (not all, of course) just kind of repeat whatever they've been told or taught, without experiencing and learning things on their own. Even I haven't experienced "real life" (i.e. paying taxes, working full time, supporting a family), and I try to refrain from commenting on things I know nothing about. I have opinions, but I try to fact-check and stay level-headed as much as possible. That's just me, though...

So, yeah, maybe a little hypocritical, but really- us young people really tend to live up to stereotypes.

I don't so much with politics as there are so many camps in existence, and few are truly dogmatic.

However, I typically do judge a book by its cover when it comes to religion. Being that most of the beliefs are in fact dogmatic, you can wager that Joe Dirt probably believes X, Y and Z. I cannot think of any conservative Christians I know who are in favor of gay rights. There are of course the liberal Christians that do, but then they argue with the conservative Christians on the issue. Religion is just so silly. They point fingers at atheists and complain, yet they are offended when their holy books is quoted, and bicker amoungst themselves as to what the Bible actually says.

No, I have good friends that are politically liberal and conservative. I do find that my liberal friends are more vocal about their unsolicited political views than my conservative friends though but, I don't typically engage in political discussions with either.

I agree, liberals tend to be more vocal.

I reluctantly say yes just because I am human and thats the first thing we do with anyone. We form a first impression.

The religion part does not apply to me though, I am agnostic. (mm. wait) Maybe there is an opposite side. I guess I might judge someone poorly who had a very close minded view, atheist or theist.

I try to be non judgmental about peoples political leanings. I think the bias works both ways though and communication gets lost quickly.

More vocal about their unsolicited views. That is, they will tend to interject their political opinions into conversations more readily than conservatives I find.

I try not to brand people until after they've said something stupid. But most people seem to be rather apolitical in general. So whenever the subject of politics comes up, it's usually a fair bet that something polarizing is about to happen and I'm either really going to like the person or really dislike them. And rarely does it take more than about three to five sentences before a Democrat says something ignorant, fallacious, or downright malicious.

haha, so if a couple Communists disagreed on what Marx was saying in a certain passage, Communism is therefore silly? Come on.

I judge whether they are right or wrong according to their posts. But if you are saying---do I judge them bad or good according to their perception and worldview....no. That is done by how they respond to me and how they behave. For instance...if a poster is rude and crude and demeaning---I judge them as bad, bad poster.

Think less of someone who purports differing opinions?

Religion, not so much. In fact I'm a great admirer of the 7th Day Adventist.
    They can't engage in war.

^_- a political or philosophical belief is "real" but a religious belief is not? That's just absurd on its face

The question in the title is entirely different than the question in the op. To the title q: yes. To the op q: no.

    Marxism is a demonstrable fact.

The premise of religion is often not demonstrable, hence, faith.

Keep in mind god is supposedly omnipotent, and such powers could easily resolve any disagreements over which denomination is more godly than the other. lol

Personally I do not like to surround myself with people of the same religious or political vent as myself, it is much more interesting to meet people of other opinions. I really do enjoy discussion and have very very good friends who's views are often completely opposed to mine.

It makes no sense to apply generalized prejudices toward any group that evidences stark internal differences -
How could anyone lump together Suni and Shia - or Cochranites vs McDanielistas - given the visceral enmity many in the feuding camps reciprocate.

One might find neither side particularly attractive, but it's impossible to ignore the distinctions.

Individuals can be full of surprises.

While true...it is very easy to generalize those that follow religion.
