A quick skim of the news answers this. The bloody repubs in Congress block anything and everything in favor of their juvenile, spoiled brat grandstanding.

Because your elected officials can't decide on anything.

Whether this is because they tricked you, your stupidity, or are representing your true mixed feelings will not be known until the election is over.

It's not that they can't decide on anything, there's just too much partisan fighting to get things done.

It's basically like the Hatfields and McCoys, they fight so much they don't really know what they're fighting for, and they're fighting just because their party says to.

It may give you the answer you're content with, but it's a little more complex than than that.

To be honest I would not be considered liberal enough to summarize their platform, but I think the terms themselves are generally self explanatory. What turns people off is how some liberals want to achieve those ends with government programs and laws that restrict people's freedoms. Affirmative Action is a good example of a government program that sought to expand college opportunity to the under-represented African-American community. Same thing for Pell grants and Stafford loans offered to the poor. Conservatives aren't really opposed to extending opportunities to such communities, but they would probably argue that it should be accomplished by the free market and private enterprise.

That latter point is a worthwhile discussion, but we'll never have it while the liberal position is being mischaracterized as wanting equal income for everyone.

I for one would welcome that discussion.

Easy answer. The biggest dogs and the fattest cats are making waaaay too much money off of these kinds of things, and so long as the big boys are getting their cuts (like the mafia), these things will not only continue, but get progressively worse. Corporate cash going to the richest of the rich through corrupt politics, corrupt leaders, corrupt corporate bodies, and corrupt elitists living the high life. Now if morality paid as well as corruption, you'd have a chance of repairing the system but, that won't ever happen. That's why the whole system needs to crash and burn, so the corruption can be burned down with it, and a new one be formed (minus the corrupt corporate fat cats hopefully, next time).

Democrats destroyed the most progressive Republican president, Richard Nixon. And for what? The nation suffered needlessly for the petty crap he pulled. Compared to the high crimes presidents are involved with today, like killing Americans without due process, Nixon's petty crime of breaking in to the DNC is so laughable. The thing that is most laughable is it was Nixon who started the EPA administration and other progressive programs.

We the people are supposed to have the power to fix this at the ballot box. No need for crashing and burning. Send the scoundrels and charlatans packing instead of re-electing them over and over again. Ultimately, we have the governance we deserve.

Except that the fattest cats with the biggest piles of cash control the ballot box. The more poor people that vote, the unhappier people in the republican party are. Both sides are corrupt. The system is broken, and unrepairable at this point. Money dictates everything, and the big boys are the dictators.

Too busy blaming Obama, you mean?

No one ever gave me any cash for my vote. Besides, I recall a recent example of an incumbent spending orders of magnitude more on his campaign than his opponent, and ultimately cleaning out his desk and taking the walk of shame. We DO have the means to effect change, if we can refrain from falling for the campaign hype.

Not when the representatives of both sides are mostly all millionaires. The 'voice of the people' is NEVER heard through these conduits.

Corruption will never, ever be burned down like you allude to. It's existed since...well...almost forever. I do agree that money buys corruption at the highest levels though. But I fail to see how letting the system "crash & burn" will prevent it from happening in future. History just doesn't support that theory.

You make a good point, but that was then and this now. My focus is not on what happened during Nixon but what's happening, or more to point, not happening, to solve the issues we face today. I'm searching for focused answers on how we solve our current situations, not who to blame for the past. Blaming is easy, productive solutions to fix real problems isn't.

Get folks to tune out of biased hate/fearmongering media, and elect folks who will compromise to fix things.

The true leaders of America are destroying nationalism and are moving to a new world order. One leader to lead us all. In order to do it there must first be chaos, so that the new order will be seen as a saviour. The walls of illusion are coming down, the fiat currency is failing as they always do (by design). The government needs the confusion so that they can slip out the back door when the (*)(*)(*)(*) hits the fan. It's like America is a runaway train and all chances of saving her have slipped away, she can't be saved! Our government failed us. More important though we failed us, our parents and grandparents failed us. Invoke your right to bare arms, store up gas, and can food. Have an escape plan. When the (*)(*)(*)(*) flies stay away from cities and wait for the new order to show up in their white tanks.

We are fixing things. Its called Deconstructivism. Its the new way to fix things by dismantling them and reassembling them in a way which creates a zeitgeist of euphoria.

No. In a debate, that would be called a deflection. An ineffective one at that.

Deflection means there was a legitimate point made. You made no such thing here. Just baseless opinionated rant.

I would have thought every American on this site would have had some thing to say on this thread. The response to your thread way2 convey should be a strong sign as to why we are in the predicament we are in. Less than 50% of the people vote. They don't care! Others don't even know what is going on. We can thank our first class media for that. It's very frustrating to care so deeply about our country and the direction it's going while others can't miss a second of shows like big brother, and American idol to give a rat's ass. Sorry but it's true.
