IMO...It's more about marketing than it is about political correctness. Barbie dolls started out as Caucasian only and to broaden the appeal, she became available as a black doll. Captain America is not any bigger an icon than the Barbie doll, so what is the difference really?

    Captain America isn't DC...

And there has been another Captain since his supposed death, not during his service.

I read it. I didn't see anything juvenile about it.

I completely agree especially about Spawn. There is no reason to change up the races for PC reasons

It's obviously an attempt to boost sales. As a kid I always thought CA was one the lamer comics out there. The comic book trend for years has been towards darker and/or more sarcastic characters. Would we see rwers up in arms if he was replaced with another white guy?

Me either, thought I was having a respectful discussion about a fun subject. Usually it's the same old Right/Left crap...but seemed to be a fun subject about comics, a diversion from the usual junk.

    Go figure. /shrug

Thank you Tahuyaman, I thought maybe I missed something.

I believe Bucky was CA while Rogers was alive. I am not motivated enough to research it, but that is my memory.

All I can figure is that some people still want to argue and start a confrontation where there's nothing to argue about.

Exactly. It's a different story, not the same Captain America original fans grew up on. No one cares what the ethnicity of any character is, as long as it has the same continuity. If it doesn't, then changes to the story must be made. It would be no different if DC made an Asian Batman, instead of just letting Batman retire or just passing of the mantle to Nightwing. Given the story of Batman, an Asian Batman makes no sense.

I read they already did with Green Lantern. I never read comics as a kid but all this proves is that the nutballs who write this stuff now have no orginal creativity so they change original characters and bow to PC wishes.

    Probably.

Captain America is Steve Rogers. A guy who wanted to serve his country but was to frail. he's got an established origin. His origin helps make the character a believable one.

Lets face it, these arent real people where age means you have to find another actor. Steve Rogers isnt really getting old, hes not sick or injured... there really isnt any NEED to change him.

Captain America and Superman have always been 2 of my favorites, so Yes I was bummed when they "killed" him off awhile back, even though a White Guy took over....it still wasnt Steve Rogers.

Same thing. The company probably has done some market research and found that more black kids are reading comics or some such stat and felt that the change was the way to boost circulation. Businesses never make bold moves unless there is a calculated reason.

Bucky was his sidekick. After his supposed death, he came back as the Winter Soldier. He became Captain America when Rogers was presumed dead, but he wasn't CA when Rogers was also alive.

The characters themselves matter just as much as their alter-egos. Otherwise, there is nothing to invest in the alter-ego. You can have anyone just play any role, and it won't matter.

Again, it's not new to "replace" a character. Hell, there's at least 3 different Flashes, Robins/Nightwing, Red Skull, etc.

Certainly possible. I just wish they'd choose the route of making some new Black characters instead, or pour some resources into revitalizing some of the ones they have. When I was a kid I enjoyed the Deathlok comics, I liked Black Panther.....didnt care for Power Man...but they cant all be hits. Certainly if the market is there, they could bring in some interest without sacrificing other characters IMO.

It wasnt that long ago that we saw Cap/Steve shot and "killed" and now he finally comes back...and they're going to screw with him again.

If Barry had a son it wouldn't look like CA.

Aside from you, who is freaking out ?

The only issues I see people having are with continuity, and wondering why Falcon can't just be Falcon. That's me... I'm not a fan of replacements in general, but it has nothing to do with color or gender.

I couldn't care less myself because Marvel blows. They're all about appeasement, PC, and mutants (Hi Northstar!)

But, I'm a huge Batman fan and Robin has been many different people, maybe more than anyone.
I didn't like that, there is no reason to continue a character just for the sake of it.
When Dick Grayson retired and became Nightwing, they could have just brought in some new partner for Batman.

I realize why they do this, because "Robin", "Cap America", etc.... are franchise names that they want to live on.

There have been plenty of black superheroes and no one has ever complained.
    Sorry.

    Zzz.....
Libs in this thread want whitey upset over this.... bit it seems the only person upset is the race-card throwing YOU.

It would be impossible for hyper whiny far left wing morons in California to give a (*)(*)(*)(*) less about your comic books. It's a FREAKING COMIC BOOK.

How about change for money? They must think it will generate more money from a younger new generation of comic fans.

Replacing the character is different from resetting the character.

There is nothing wrong with replacing. Resets need to be warranted, but its good if its creative enough, which most times it isn't.

Holy. You disagree with someone's changes and you hope they suffer for it?
Do you even read the comics?
