Americans view Christians & Jews more warmly than Muslims & Atheists

Not that this is that surprising. I don't get why christians are so harsh towards atheists though. It seems like they view Muslims better than Atheists.

A new survey taking the pulse of Americans' feelings toward different religions has found that Jews, Catholics and evangelical Christians are viewed more warmly than other faiths. On a 100-point scale, those three groups had average ratings in the 60s, on the more positive end of the spectrum, the Pew Research Center reported. Buddhists, Hindus and Mormons scored in the high 40s and 50s, which was deemed the neutral range. Atheists and Muslims scored lower, 40 and 41 respectively. The researchers noted that because religious groups were rated more positively by their own members, Catholics and evangelical Christians may have gotten a boost because they have so many adherents.

Catholics and evangelicals "generally view each other warmly," Pew said in its report. Evangelicals had positive feelings toward Jews, but Jewish respondents did not return the favor, tending to give them a much cooler rating. There was also a deep freeze between evangelicals and atheists, with both scoring the other in the decidedly chilly 20s range.

 

I do not understand why some judge the many by the actions of the few. For example if all Islam were terrorists we would be in deep trouble as there are now over 1 billion Muslims. But luckily for humanity its a violent minority that is causing the most trouble. Heck if I were to judge Christianity based upon the actions of the Christians that I know my view of Christianity would be bottom of the barrel low. I can separate the people from the religion and understand that the actions of few does not represent the the whole.

I see most religions as amoral meaning that religion in and of itself is not moral or immoral. But the actions that its practitioners take in the name of their God can certainly be viewed in a moral/immoral light depending upon the action. As for why so many do not like atheists? Heck if I know but I am sure its based on ignorance and bias.

There is nothing wrong with Christians having homosexual friends. A Christian can be against gay marriage, but still have gay friends. This may lead to complications in their friendship depending on the situation.

 

Its not my job to do the source citation for others and from my perspective posting a graph without source citation is lazy. But none the less thanks for the source citation.

 

A friend would be happy if their friend got married and was happy. If my friend did not agree with my marriage they would not be my friend.

 

You could say the same for Germans in WWII.

 

that graph is for EUROPE. Christians in Europe are generally more relaxed about such things than American Christians. Especially western/northern Europe.

American Christians (especially the protestant variety) seem to suffer from a certain ignorance of other cultures and beliefs - which may be linked to the way in which they're indoctrinated. Probably accounts for the fact that they still view atheists as wrong or evil, and the belief that religion = virtue. Just as though it's still the 17th century

 

I suspect a large number of them don't want to seem homophobic in front of others. Perhaps we western Europeans care a lot more about people thinking we are bigots than Americans, on average.

The whole West has become sexually promiscuous and fought the churches' teachings of sexual prudence ever since the Sexual Revolution of the Feminists/Gays of 1965.

What has had to wait is the Stats on the Report Card so we could see evidence that promiscuity hurts the whole nation and the fatherless children we do not abort.


Now, we can see, after 50 years, that Sex Ed does not work.
Condoms and pills do not slow welfare or Abortions.
And Child Abuse of the fatherless bastards is enormous.

 

Yes, we do.

Child Abuse is what follows sexual promiscuity,... always.
We call the kids "bastards" because they are notably different and prone to violent crimes.
We also see that they suffer enormous Child Abuse while being raised by single mothers.
