Israel apologised. Well that's ok then. You might want to ask yourself why the survivors of the attack, so many years later, are still seeking the truth. Or is every last one of them an Israel-hater? Why does McNamara so vehemently deny any knowledge of events on that day-especially with regards to signals he can't recall sending, and why is documentation of the attack still a matter of secrecy?

Who do you want to apologise, and for what? None of the attackers on America were representatives of any specific government or nation, and all the terrorists acted out of some twisted misrepresentation of Islam-a religion.
The IDF which attacked the Liberty were the armed forces of Israel-a country and supposed 'ally' of America-despite spying on America, selling her military secrets to China and Israel's leader publicly calling America an easily manipulated pushover...
So, would you (presumably an American Christian) apologise or make restitution for the actions of a Christian terrorist from a foreign country-like, for example, the Lord's Resistance Movement in Africa?

Are you talking about the file footage that was broadcast over and over again... That was from the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in May 2000. I'd seen it many times before..

Yeah - All that Al-Qaeda had to do was to apologize for 9-11, and then it would have been honky-dory. Why build prisons when criminals could simply be forced to apologize to their victims?

If you focused on what I wrote instead of these ridiculous spotting tests, you'd wonder, like me, how can there be no Egyptian ships in the area, except for the one Israel seemingly attacked.

You are the king of the non-argumentation, DrewBedson.

Remember this? All one had to do as a paedophile priest and serial rapist and abuser of children, was to pray, repent and all would be forgiven...

Ah forget it Margot2; Only Palestinians would be so cruel as to rejoice for an attack committed on the one country that vetoes everything the UN stands for as soon as it concerns Israel, while financing them with billions to help eradicate their defenseless nation - the savages!

Sharon, who said the Jews controled America or Bibi, who was rejoicing about the catastophe, were just alright, and full of love for the Yanks, didn't they? Hatred is an American priviledge - other, lesser nations have no legitimate right to hate Americans (that would be un-civilized).

"wrong weapon" refers to one that is not optimal for attacking the intended target.

Napalm is far and away one of the worst weapons to use on a ship of any size.

A single 500 lb. bomb would've blown Liberty in half.

Again, if Israel wanted to sink or blow up Liberty, why did they send only four aircraft (2 Mirages, 2 Mysterie) with their regular guns and napalm (only two aircraft carried any napalm for that matter) as their only ordnance?

And again, there have been ZERO credible motives ever established for an attack by Israel.

The simplest explanation is virtually always the best.

Overworked Israelis miscommunicated about the location and identity of the Liberty and an attack was ordered without verifying her identity.

Communications where the Israelis were fretting over whether the ship was actually Israeli, or Egyptian, or Soviet bear this out.

First, Israel was at war, and probably could't afford sending its entire air force on a single ship.

Second, the main attack was to be made by the torpedo boats. The aircrafts were just there to soften the ship's defenses by strafing, for their coming attack.

I beleive that the decision to sink the Liberty was a quick, improvised one - hence the hasty aircraft attack.

If you read the posts we keep sending you, you would have seen the response for such an argumentation. It has been like 6 times that I, alone, repeat what I wrote there without any feedback. IMO Israel didn't want any eavesdropping, so they decided to sink the Liberty (whose antennas revealed its nature as a communication-monitoring vessel) and put the blame on the Egyptians.

And yet they attacked it without even having identify it correctly? Seems stupid.

You consistantly ignore the fact that the US flag waving Liberty was circled, slowly, by a spotter aircraft, at low altitude and by clear weather. I just don't buy into the "prolonged identification mistake" official explanation, and if you ever were in the military, neither should you.

I'll bet you really do believe that anyone who disagrees with you is an "idiot", How does that make you able to have an honest debate.

Like quoting a NY Times headline. I'd bet there are enough Sulzbergers sporting Israeli passports that it it could be easily described as Israeli-owned. A truly honest news broker...[h=1][/h]

There was no "eavesdropping" the Liberty could do. The Egyptians had already been effectively been beaten. Liberty was in no position to report on the upcoming attack in the Golan.

And the planes that circled Liberty did so HOURS prior to the attack jets arriving. Liberty was designated as a neutral, but hours later (before the attack) that intel was considered dated and her board icon had been removed.

Liberty it was assumed had simply sailed away (which is what the U.S. military had ordered her to do but the information had yet to crawl through the archaic naval command structure she was a part of at that point).

And by the way, at that point, Israel had no shortage of combat aircraft. The rival air forces were smashed on Day one of the Six Day War.

A test that that you spent five hours to identify a ship you said was easily identifiable from the others! :roflol:

I already addressed your silly contention - twice I believe. If all the ships were in the Red Sea, then they obviously missed something as somebody was firing at El Arish.

Golly Victor, you're missing a lot here, try reading others posts for a change.

That is precisely what bugs me. Israel apologized. What also bugs me is some people try paint the American survivors who didn't buy into the conspiracy theories and who were eye witnesses as liars, particularly the Captain of the ship.

What also really bugs me is the accusation LBJ apologized for Israel. He did not. He could not have been more blunt. He openly was angry at the mistake and said so and swore and had a fit of course he was angry but he knew it was a mistake as well.

Of course its a thing to be angry about. Friendly fire is not something to cherish. Its a damn shame. So now what....LBJ, all the Americans who investigated the matter, certain eye witnesses, they are all liars, all Zionist traitors because Snake won't agree with them?. Bull sheeyit. Mistakes happen,

The Americans have made their share of them in friendly fire. It doesn't make the US or Israel

Some of us were damn pissed off at the US pilot who killed the Canadian troops on the ground in Afghanistan particularly when we found out he was high on amphetamines. So? What we hate all Americans now? We should think they are all evil. It was a mistake.

The pilot like many pilots was hyped on drugs and took too many. Many Americans said that pilot should have been court martialed and put in jail. Interestingly the Canadian government and its military command did not. Theyw ere upset but you don't get stupid about it. Pilots make mistakes.

In Israel's case they did. They admitted they did many times. It doesn't take a genius to know pilots having flown in missions for 4 days would be tired and edgy. If you thought it was an Egyptian ship or Russian ship and were operating on adrenalin you make split second decisions.

No you d on't try sink a ship with napalm let alone your best ally's ship in a false flag. How more retarded a concept can that be?

Israeli planes looking for submarines had spotted it earlier. Had they wanted to sink it they would have far earlier.

The mistake came when the original sightings were pulled off the marker board with its last position. That was one mistake. Add to that the mistake of the Americans forgetting to tell the Liberty to pull back was the other. It created the perfect storm for the attack. That and the fact the ship was in a place the US told Israel it was not and the fact it was off the coast when explosions went off that Rabin stated they thought meant Israel troops were under attack.

What idiot would think Israel would shoot on the US navy deliberately, the only Navy force capable of neutralizing the Soviet attack that Israel was worrying about. It's past stupid.

As well the head of Israeli intelligence had already briefed the US before the Liberty incident as to Israel's intent to invade Syria.

But hey...why pay attention to the actual facts.

Only you considered it as a riddle. I finally did cave in when you challenged me for the third time, out of pity, and not only did I could tell the ships apart, but I even give you a couple of classes on that board (believeing you would have text with the silhouettes). It took me about 2 minutes for the whole job, probably less. It was routine. I don't know why it seems so un-believable for you.

You are the only one on this board that still cannot tell the two ships apart, or still considering identification impossible.

It was, bud, your contention that there were no Egyptian ships in the area that could have attacked the Liberty, which would have been an argument for the innocence of Israel.

I am really starting to wonder if you were serious, DrewBedson...

No but I would question someone who states in an alleged debate they have a closed mind to any position but their own and state they will not listen to any other opinion other than their own, then has the chutzpah to come back on the board and accuse anyone but himself of not engaging in honest debate.

    Lol.

    Honest.

Unless you people are willing to show you can identify ships from several hundred feet in altitude, while flying at several hundred knots, and wearing an oxygen mask while trying to peer out of a cockpit then all the talk of "silhouettes" is largely meaningless.

There were 2 days left in the 6-days war, and the Liberty was, really, a spy vessel, gathering intel - that was its job, and it was equipped for that with these very visible antennas. There could be a lot of things that the Israelis didn't want outsiders to knows, about the Golan or anything else. I don't think the Israelis liked that - they never did.

I don't see why its icon would have been removed. It goes against all war logic.

Even when spotted the Liberty didn't even moved at 10knts. That's quite slow, you see.

So, the Israelis were now stuck with a useless air force, right? Strange - most sides who ever had aerial domination tend to use it. How much do you know about war/naval warfare/startegy, exactly?

Two minutes sitting in one place knowing precisely what you were looking for, being familiar with the silhouette of the ship in question and, being stationary and what I hope to be you being somewhat alert yet it took two minutes according to your own admission.

Israeli pilots were travelling at hundreds of miles per hour and had spent the entire night before running battle missions over the Sinai and only had scant seconds to do what took you minutes. Once again you made my case and destroyed your own.

Not impossible but rather difficult when flying at high speeds. It took you two minutes minimum and you were familiar with the ship and were sitting down nice and calm.

None that they knew of yet somebody was firing at El Arish which brought them to the area where the Liberty was not supposed to be as it was supposed to have left that area hours before. In your idiotic conspiracy theory you would have us believe that Israel decided not to fire on this ship which was shelling the coast and instead declare war on the US for no reason and to blame it on a ship that they had no idea before then even existed and still didn't know where it was?????

Wow Victor ol' chum you are stretching it this time!:salute:

Speaking about serious....now you are a naval officer giving lessons as to how to profile a ship in two minutes and speak for me and everyone else on the board but Drew.

Gevalt. Oh yoohoo sailor...you don't speak for me.

It's a spotter plane. Crewed by spotters. Military-trained spotters. They circled the Liberty. At low altitude. By clear weather. Without being fired upon. For quite a while. In WWII, in the most adverse conditions (bad weather, high altitude, being fired upon etc), aerial spotters were able not only to tell tha class of a ship, but more often than not which specific ship in the class, too.

There's only so much codswallop a guy can take, you see. These spotters just couldn't have been the blind cretins you guys believe - it just doesn't compute.

"Spotter" planes did not circle the U.S.S. Liberty just before the attack.

They circled it HOURS earlier when it was identified as an American ship.

Like I said, after so many hours without further reports, a vessel is no longer considered to be within an area. That is a simple practice. You do not keep dated intelligence reports on a board where it confuses and distracts from more recent, presumably more accurate intelligence during time of war.
