That "resource" has a high dropout rate, in fact the highest in the nation. Not much of a resource. You still think that all are children that came here as infants, when that isn't the case. The overwhelming majority came here as teenagers and few of them completed high school, even fewer went into college.

You seem to be allowing your empathy for the very few to far outweigh the reality of the overwhelming majority.

What's the problem here? Look, we have to be realistic. Mass deportation is not an option, putting the barbarism of such an act aside, it's logistically impossible. Not to mention quite a waste of money, since they'll likely just get right back in through a border that would, again, be logistically infeasible to protect entirely. The resources required for both mass deportation and total border security would be astronomical, not exactly a conservative solution IMO (possibly a fascist one, however).

So, if they're here, if they came unwillingly as a child, and want to serve--let them.

 

Perhaps someone who wants to become a citizen could be assessed, and if adequate for military service, serve a few years and become a citizen at the end of the period.

Better than conscription, at least these people have something to fight for.

 

So long as they stay <8% of the military nominally @ 5%, I say it is a great path to citizenship... however it is not an option if you cross illegally. You must be turned away.

 

What does "mass deportation" have to do with anything? Nobody has even put forth "mass deportation" as a proposal.

 

Why should citizenship be tied to military service? Not even LPR's that enter the US Military are given US Citizenship.

So in your eyes "deport them all" equated to "mass deportation"? Deport them all simply means when in contact with our Law enforcement they should be detained, processed, and then deported as our laws mandate. Nothing "mass" about it.

 

Yes, because that's what many posters have said in the past. You can play around with semantics, but you'd have to be willfully ignorant to not acknowledge that rounding up and deporting immigrants en masse is the wet dream of some conservative circles.

Your assertion is limiting, you limited it to some conservative circles, as if it is only some conservatives that you claim that have stated it, all based on your assumption the person is conservative.

I thought the idea was in preparation for the inevitable 'boots on the ground' effort. If they survive they get to be citizens and bring the whole fam damily to the U.S. If they don't survive then... uhhhh, what immigration problem?

I don't get it. Serving in the US army to prove your dedication to becoming a citizen sounds pretty American to me.

Obviously the citizenship/resident alien rule is the one under discussion. All other requirements still apply.

 

Thats fine as long as your a legal immigrant who entered the country through the front door, and didnt violate the law.

Its been that way for a long time.

Now, though, obama and pals wanna boot out citizens and allowed illegal immigrants in.

Its important to remember, legal immigration requires back ground checks, that are not performed when someone sneaks across the border.

Obama and pals plans are really kinda idiotic if you think about it. They want gun control and the destruction of the second amendment, but if youre an illegal, they wanna give you a free machine gun....
