I definitely support ensuring that anything having to do with government maintains anti-discriminatory standards.

 

I completely agree with you (although it may not seem so from my previous posts). What's bothering me is that people don't recognize her bigotry. I would hope that you are correct that if somebody was as ignorant and bigoted as this woman, that people would not support her by giving her business. However, based on people's responses, it is frustrating that so many people DO support her.

I think there needs to be a balance between liberty and equality, and the hardcore anti-discrimination laws tends to tip that scale more towards equality than liberty (which I rarely support), but I was very surprised to hear so many people on this forum support her ignorance.

Well, if it's any consolation, this forum is much more bigoted than the general public. It leans pretty hard to the right on most things.

That being said, there are also plenty of non-bigoted members (from various political orientations).

i could...maybe..in a parallel universe, support the right to discriminate in the public sector but only if NO public funds of any kind go to such institutions.

that means no cops, firemen, streetcleaners, construction workers, maintenance workers, could be funded by public funds in any way.

If her business purchases anytthing that originates outside the state of Arkansas, she would be in violation of the law. If she sells one box of ammo manufactured anywhere else in the U.S. she is in violation, and even if it's assembled in Arkansas the ingredients must also come from Arkansas, the brass, the chemicals in the power the raw materials that were used to make the chemicals, etc.. She will not be able to allow non Arkansas residents to use her facility, sodas she sells must be made in Arkansas and the ingredients must come from Arkansas. If someone challenges her on this rule, she will ultimately lose.

 

On what basis? The commercial baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple lost her case, what makes this any different?

 

There are groups that deliberately will take on challenges like this just to prove a point. If one does, she is in for a world of hurt. All legal precedent is against her.
