It is overwhelmingly the most popular sport in the World.

    [COUGH]

    And of course God himself!

I know, that's why it is called football not soccer.

The top players earn in excess of $300,000 a week. Give it a try if you think it doesn't require skill or knowledge.

This can be very true, but only if there is an absence of proper coaching.

Well at least they play continuously for 45 minutes without a break and then another 45, with only advertising during the interval.

Disclaimer: I am willing to acknowledge your use of irony in the above post

If you judge a sport by how little children play it, you're doing something wrong.

hand eye cooridination? That skill each one of us has from birth?....go catch a ball with your head, chest, thigh, foot and keep it off the floor for a minute or two before you pass it off with your head, chest, thigh or foot to someone else...we'll give you a year to practice, get back to us and let us know how it's going...

unlike a sport like nfl an elite soccer player will need to have the basic mental, and technical skills they'll need as an adult in place by the age of 14....for nfl starting at mid teens is early enough...

I find American football absolutely boring, because of the pauses and because actions start from a firm situation [too easy!]. Rugby is 10 times better.

Baseball makes me fall asleep ...

I save basketball which I find as exciting as soccer [football].

The point is that to enjoy "soccer" you have to enter the emotion of the match [you wait, you wait, hoping for a "goal" ... I have lived some of the most intense moments of my life watching a soccer match ... overall in 2006, when Italy won the World Cup!].

Irrelevant. But since you brought it up, except for Europe, most countries
where soccer is played are impoverished and poorly educated.

I didn't judge. It was an observation.

Baseball requires to much thinking for some. It's very much like
    watching chess in that regard

A cure for insomnia...lets be honest , baseball caters to stupid people that can't comprehend a flowing game, they need constant timeouts and tv talking heads to explain every single detail for them to be able to know when it's time to go to toilet or buy a beer...and how many mlb baseball players come from impoverished and uneducated third world countries:roflol:...baseball is dying, soccer is destroying its player development base n america, kids know what's fun and what isn't....

I was merely pointing out its universal appeal unmatched by any other sport - "I can understand why politically correct people like it.- Your point makes no sense since football is watched comprehensively by every demographic in every country in which it is played i.e. every country in the world.

Even if you don't like football check this out? It is only 3 minutes long and it is quite funny. I told Grandpa to stop embarrassing the local kids!

You are right. It is very boring too to see somebody jump from a little plane but It is very nice what you feel (and the wonderful views).. the bungee jumping is not so nice like parachuting (at least for me) but the "feelings" "sensations can´t be described by words)... soccer is boring (like basketball)... to see a few players like headless chikens after a ball.... (Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester, Liverpool, Milano, Inter... for me the kings of boring) but you are right... to each his own.. I understand someone likes Boston Celtics, Lakers or Spurs... but It is not my case...What you feel on a bridge is incomparable.

    Regards

I know how you feel. Spurs have been fairly boring since they bought a load of pants with the £100m they got for Bale.

Can I ask, why are you posting on football thread if you find football boring/

Not that I am not interested in your opinion on something you don't really understand (Madrid, Barca boring, en all). In fact as a newcomer to the site it is a bit of an education in what I might expect - ISIS, they are like so boring, who wants to know what is happening in like Syriraq like?

Yes the post is not about soccer but about if you like soccer and I don´t like soccer (nor basketball, handball, etc etc etc)...Madrid, Barcelona, Milano, Inter, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern München or someone other team played a boring sport, a few guys running after a ball..

Like a Danish girl friend told me few years ago. soccer is for gays: almost naked guys running, kissing, Can you imagine Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso kissing each other in a Formula One Grand Prix?:eekeyes:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1HQvk_qyeo

Kiss between soccer players: FC Barcelona, German teams, french, english, italian etc etc... I´ve never seen a kiss between two Formula one drivers....

The title of the thread is a rhetorical question, it's clearly meant as invitation for those of us who understand and love the game to discuss it...there are a number of members here who apparently believe it's an open invitation to insult us and the game we love...

    Fair enough.

I used to like F1, until Michael started winning by a lap every race. The rule changes have made it a lot more competitive. However, when it is a $100m car plus a driver that wins the race, I really don't see how you can compare it to a field sport.

As for the kissing, from 3:30 in this clip it all gets a little homoerotic!

And yes, I do agree that footballers can be overly ridiculous.

Where I am from, men prefer to hit each other with sticks and take hard tackles like men instead of rolling around like little girls.

    @0:18 for example!

Disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing against 'the Gay', or little girls

Yeah spurs could've done more with 100 million, but it's a business and business is all about profit...

You are right but I must recognize I love Formula One from I was a child (from Ronnie Peterson, Gunnar Nilsson) and yes Schumacher Fck F-1. The video is something like homoereotic...Schumacher and Todt, the little Napoleon... what a pair!!!

If your country is Ireland I must say that I was there when I was 18 yo.. and Green and old Ireland always will be in my heart. Everything: Dublin, towns, countryside, music, pubs, Guinness... and People.

But I don´t like soccer and I say.

    Dia dhuit!

it was a rhetorical question, an invitation to discuss the game...

Your opinion ended after your initial post, since then you've been needlessly trolling " headless chickens, gay, boring"...if you want to start a thread about bungee jumping, parachuting, F1 go do it so those of us who love soccer can return the insults...

I am not sure I see your point. Spurs spent ALL of the €100 million on new player, which as it turned out were mostly either rubbish, or way over priced. Once a club gets that sort of money to spend, the price of every player they bid for goes up. Up by a lot. Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho etc. all very expensive, and all vastly overrated.

If you are a club with Champions League aspirations and you sell your best player for £100m and you spend that £100m on a bunch of overrated players and you end up having a mare of a season, losing 5-1 to Liverpool, and 6-0 to Man City etc. both CL and title rivals, I am not sure how this could be seen as good business. In fact, it is seen as the biggest waste of money in the history of English football. Well, that and Andy Carroll!
