#JusticeForMikeBrown? Where’s Justice For Gil Collar Unarmed White 18 Yr Old Gunned Down By On Duty Black Cop?

    By Eric Odom
    November 25, 2014

Gil’s arms were outstretched with his palms open seconds before he was killed by a single center mass shot.

(NY Daily News) –Video of the fatal shooting of a naked Alabama college student shows him with his arms outstretched and his palms open seconds before a campus police officer fired.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Department played the approximately two-minute security video for media Thursday. It was taken by a surveillance camera outside the University of South Alabama police station, where 18-year-old Gil Collar was fatally shot early Saturday [Oct. 6, 2012) morning. The video has no sound.

Police said Collar, 18, had taken the drug LSD and was acting aggressively, but an attorney for Collar’s family said the video shows his actions didn’t justify the shooting. Authorities declined to release a copy of the video. On the tape, Collar walks slowly toward a campus police station door once and then walks away. Seconds later, he walks back to the station and pounds violently on a glass window.

He then walks away from the police station again before an officer, Trevis Austin, comes out with his gun drawn and pointed at the naked student. Collar approaches Austin with his arms outstretched and palms open toward Austin.

They move around the porch, with Collar kneeling at one point, then getting to his feet and again walking toward Austin. The officer keeps backing away from Collar, his gun pointed at the student, as Collar approaches.

The two move into the yard, where the view of the camera is partially blocked by the porch columns and lighting. Less than 30 seconds after Austin came out of the building, the video shows Collar falling after having been shot.

The former high school wrestler was struck once in the chest.

    ……

The attorney for the student’s family, Jere Beasley, said earlier Thursday that the shooting was not justified.

“I can tell you without reservation nothing we saw in the videotape justified the use of deadly force in this case.”

Beasley said his chief investigator and one of his lawyers, a former police officer, were shown the tape Wednesday by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department.

The video shows the 5-foot-7, 140-pound student never got closer to the officer than 4 feet and didn’t try to grab his weapon, Beasley contended. The lawyer said the video also shows the officer didn’t wait for backup to arrive before coming out of the station.

“I have seen nothing to indicate to me that you ought to go out there with a raised gun against a guy who’s buck naked, unarmed and in distress,” he said.

Surveillance footage showed Collar naked and covered in sweat as he chased the officer for more than 50 feet, Fox News reported. When the student got within five feet of the officer, Austin, who was not armed with pepper spray or a baton, as is required of campus officers, shot once and struck him in the chest.

The cop who took Gil Collar’s life is free to walk the streets, as he was cleared of any charges by a Grand Jury.

Yet, no riots, looting, arson or death chants against Officer Trevis Austin as has sadly been the case with the recent protests (lynch mob demos calling for Officer Darren Wilson’s head –before due process) in the wake of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo.

Reverse racism? Is the death Gil Collar justified? Had the deceased committed a felony before being shot? Was he armed? The act of the police officer has been called justified. Yet the death of Gil Collar is a bit more questionable that that of Michael Browns. Collar was completely naked and had no weapons, nor had he assaulted the Police Officer. Where are the riots, looting and revenge killings over Gil Collar's death judged justifiable?

I'm really getting tired of answering this question.

Lib erals do not care if a white conservative child gets shot.

They only care about blacks getting shot because they can use it to tear down conservative society.

It wasn't blasted all over the TV. I didn't see Holder and Obama on TV commenting about the case. I didn't hear Obama say that Gil could have been his son. Obama ONLY comments when it is white-on-black. But Obama seems to forget that he is half white himself. I, for one, am sick of his double standard. Can't wait to kick him to the curb in 2016. Good riddance!

Why don't you find out and get back to us, or is this just another ignorant flamebait attempt?

Lol...You won't be kicking him anywhere, papa.
In fact, you'll be helping to pay for his pension, staff and office expenses, medical care or health insurance, and Secret Service protection for the rest of his life.

Ignorant post as the issue in Ferguson is historical not one incident. But I will ask the OP. Is c this a justified shooting? Was there a fair investigation? Did the DA try to get a charge? Tell me and we can talk.

What? No white unarmed teenager shot by black cop outrage? Where is Alan Sharptonburg when you need him?

Oh come on Tram, you know better than this.

Do you seriously believe what you're saying? Are you saying that all liberals are completely devoid of all sympathy and humanity?

    You're letting me down, here.

Surely the primary issue in both shootings is whether they were necessary for the protection of life, and not the ethnicity of the victims or the perpetrators? If I were an American, I would be even more concerned at the number of unarmed young people (of whatever race or creed,) shot dead under questionable circumstances by police officers - as a non-American, I am nevertheless still quite concerned at the seemingly pointless slaughter of fellow human beings.

I understand the point being raised by the OP, but I am not entirely sure I approve of the apparent motivation. The killing of the white youth was no less a crime (in fact, given the known circumstances - it could be considered even more egregious,) but surely the salient point is the unnecessary taking of life? Why make it into a racially divisive issue?

    not the point
the point being made is the two distingue different treatment and reactions between the two

where was the national media? where was the protest? was a unarmed black teens death more important and deserves the attention more so the a unarmed white teen?
why wasn't there any screams of racism towards that black cop? did you happen to notice no looting no violence after this white teens killer was not indicted is it because whites act more civilized and know how to conduct them selves

the comparison of the two cases tell us a lot about the society we live in today you just don't want to make the comparison because it shines a light on the hypocrisy and double standard by all so many including your self

You won't hear much in the news about this shooting because the liberal media only feeds the public the news they like to hype. The media knows the whites won't burn down a city but the blacks will -- that gives them some action so they can show up with camera and mic trying to look like a hero. Too often the media pushes news stories and wants to be a part of the story. A sorry lot.

According to the video Gil Collar did have his hands raised when he was shot. This must show that the racist black cop murdered him in cold blood according to your Ferguson standards. Funny you didn't claim it was flame baiting when Michael Brown was shot after he stole and strong armed people. Why is that? In fact weren't you calling for Wilson's lynching in your quest for "Justice"?

This cop should definitely at least go to trial. I think the problem we're dealing with here isn't racism, but police brutality and police being above the laws that they are supposed to uphold.

I have to say, I find your response fascinating! So the issue in Ferguson is "historical" rather than one incident? The problem with that concept is that justice requires us to look at it as one incident. Were the circumstances of the shooting justifiable under Missouri law? Based on all of the forensic and eyewitness evidence accumulated, the answer is clearly yes. The issue is NOT whether we've had racism, Jim Crow, or slavery in this country. You can't be seriously arguing that a cop should be railroaded because of "historical" reasons? As if his unfair punishment will help make up for the historical unfair punishments inflicted on African Americans?

We've had a pretty extensive investigation and process, with all the evidence publicly available, so I think we already know, within our bounds to know anything that has multiple eyewitnesses and forensic evidence, that this was a justified shooting and a fair investigation. So I don't believe that's much more than a smokescreen for your attempt to get "historical" justice by committing an injustice.

Not me Buubbala, I'm one of those conservatives you claim are the real terrorists, not one of those wearing the Guy Fawkes masks. Oh, not to worry, I'm getting up and going out on my frozen porch as soon as I finish this. BY C U.

No I'm showing the irony in the useless destruction of Ferguson by people that would prefer to believe a lie in the name of racism, rather than accept the truth.

The difference is in you, and the fact that you treat the cases differently based on the skin color of the participants in the tragedy.

ROFL! Another "socially adept" liberal. :roflol:

I think he's pointing out that there aren't any.

Normal people don't do that kinda stuff. Only Al Sharpton and his band of crazy racists would do something like that.
