i wouldnt go as far as to say cuba has a great medical system or education system. those insitutions only benifit the regime and its workers. the rest of cuba live in an entirelly different cast of poverty. that being said history has shown isolation only consolidates power to those we dont want in power.

Cuba is a whole 700 miles, end to end. How the hell can you feel threatened by a tiny, harmless island? Is there nothing that conservatives aren't terrified of?

Every Cuban citizen has access to free healthcare. Same as I have in Britain.

He didn't care about him for 5 years. Does this sound familiar? Bergdahl?? But did NOTHING for Tamorhessi who served HONORABLY.

Three Cuban spies were exchanged for one of the most important American spies of the past 50 years.

The sick civilian was a throw in.

Its interesting how the right evaluates a trade of this sort.

The Israelis think nothing of trading 1,000 Palestinians for 1 of their own, but to the American right, that kind of blatant message is far to nuanced for them to understand.

Folks, we didn't give much either. The embargo is still in place, it's just weaker.

We barely budge on a ridiculous policy, and the best we can get out of the right is complaints about not getting enough back from Cuba.

The thing with embargoes is that if only one country does it..........they don't work very well. Cuba had free trade and relations with Europe and even Canada and Mexico. Clearly ignoring them didn't change their ways and the powerful and invasive force of markets is far more likely to have a postive impact than simply continuing to pretend they don't exist. I am far more upset with the idiotic China CO2 agreement than Cuba.

Oh you big silly you. What on earth ever made you think this was about the Cuban people?

America is going to get plenty out of this and not just cigars.

There is a few billion dollars waiting to be made in Cuba and it won't take long for us to start making it.

Lol...I take it that this will be the right-wing meme of the week, eh?
    You people are a hoot.
The entire world is applauding Obama's action and looking forward to a better future for all involved but right-wingers are looking backward and pitching yet another hypocritical fit.
I read that Putin is pissed as well.
    The irony is sweet.

Aside from Alan Gross , the Cuban Government, also released a US mole it had captured in 1995...the rest of the list are exclusively the internal affair off Cuba

This October, in a vote at the UN, our policy towards Cuba was condemned by the world in a vote of 188 Nations condemning the US Cuba policy while two nations the US and Israel approved. Israel's vote though is pro forma because Israel trades freely with Cuba....:salute:

We also saute Pope Francis leader of a billion Catholics for his role in this breakthrough :clapping:

There is no existential fear from Cuba. Nor has there been since the Soviets removed their missiles. I don't know what you're point is.

Its not the same at all. everyone has free access to healthcare the quality of which depends on cast. most pharmacies lack medicine and most hospital conditions are horrific. Cuba's best hospitals are medical tourism pay hospitals.

The worst part about Rubio's faux outrage is that he is a Cuban American!!! And he's doing the same exact thing as countless US politicians have done over the decades....pander to the Cuban Exile community and use 'em for cheap votes. You are a disgrace, Rubio, an utter disgrace, as a politician, a man, and a Cuban American to use this platform for your own political aspirations.

Hopefully now, the Cuban Exile community can move on and make amends with its past.

Didn't he have a $35 million dollar house built for him there? I understand it's in the path of the lava flow. Hope he likes it hot.

You mentioned in post 25, with reference to Cuba, that Third World nations are capable of harming other nations.

Rubio is not the only Cuban that has a problem with this deal. Many expatriates have the same opinion. Do you have the same outrage for black dems who pander to the black community every election cycle as they pimp and pander for votes? That's been going on since LBJ.

What liberals hate are the Cuban people and what they love are dictators. Sad. And, dictators don't negotiate so they aren't really familiar with the concept. The Democrats in the U.S. are a great example of not understanding the concept of negotiations. They understand bribery, blackmail, extortion, and lying but negotiation is a foreign concept.
