So happy that at least one other person here feels that some things are simply not knowable. What irritates me is when one says he KNOWS that god exists, or does not exist. These people are lying. Whether it be a theist or an atheist. One would expect a theist to lie, but an atheist who is supposedly grounded in scientific knowledge? LOL They are the worst offenders, for they should know better.

I can live without knowing, and instead of wasting my time on what I can never know, I spend my time observing the only thing that I can know something about, which is my own subjective consciousness. To Know Thyself is something humanity has no time for, but I believe it is the most important thing, the most important endeavor in life. So I watch myself, thoughts coming and going, which takes a lot of attention and energy. But there is something marvelous to be learned by doing that. And it makes for a much better person, if one sticks with it. A more sane person, IMO

Here's the thing you don't get ...you can sit and mewl over "The "Meaning of Life" but we (you and I and everybody else ) will still die.

And your "superior" ;) knowledge that you created in your head won't do you a bit of good.

Seems a bit silly to ask that question to a Christian. Sin is obviously a negative. Without any authority, randomly assigned values would absolutely be your mo.

Because something is "natural" does not make it either good or useful.

What if a child prayed for a specific sign and it was delivered? For instance, what if a child prayed for a red female Siberian Husky puppy for weeks and one weekend morning they were awakened by a yelping puppy? The child peered out that window, and confirmed the yelping puppy was a red female Siberian Husky, with a thorn in it's foot. How would you interpret that? Would that be God? Or would that be random coincidence? I would think that child should go ahead and submit to God.

You can assume that somebody doesn't know God, but all you are assuming is what you know.

Well some classic pagan faiths knew how to feast, get drunk and stoned and threw great orgies so there you go.

certainly the best answer yet. of course later they probably sacrificed a few captured soldiers, not that I'm against this in principle as long as I don't know any of them. Still, there are those that would eschew the idea of sacrifice and gluttony along with wonton disregard of sexual mores, me not one of them. I judge this a a "hanger".
