I have a friend whose father has a picture of his family house in Cuba. It's just a ranch style home, but he want's, and fully expects, to somehow get it back when the Castro brothers are dead.

I'm all for it. Been looking for valve lifters and rods for my 1963 Chevy II 283.

The South experienced the same thing.

Normally, I wouldn't answer over a dead issue, but what happened in Cuba and what happened during the CW, were not the same. Yes, some land owners simply quit and moved on, but for the most part they maintained their land and many by other methods maintained their workforce. Note that this included thousands of Black Farmers whose descendants received reparations around 2009/10. My own ancestors had an original "Virginia Land Grant, about 1720", held through the CW and not sold until 1955..,.

So where are the calls on the Right for embargo against Saudi Arabia? They do the same things.

First, those were RUSSIAN missiles. I don't remember us having an embargo against Russia that continues to this day.

Second, we did emplace nuclear missiles near Russia first.

Putin plays checkers and Obama plays chess. You guys don't see it? Obama has teamed with Saudi Arabia to force the price of oil down, what does this have to do with Cuba? wait for it... Saudi wins because it hurts Iran their regional enemy and forces Iran to be more interested in nuclear talks (note recent headlines). Russia cannot produce oil as cheap as S.A. so their economy tanks. The US connects with Cuba to prevent Russia from opening up another diplomatic front, Cuba doesn't have a choice but to deal with us because their only wealthy allies are Russia and Venezuela, who, by the way is tanking as we speak for the same reasons. We should have made this attempt with Cuba a long time ago but now it it sings with irony. BTW, an added bonus is that the Koch brothers are taking a beating, another enemy of America (and Obama). Obama is the God of clever.

How is being alienated or defeased from rights in private property any different for the citizens in any given and several States?

Just as any new law affects a people, rights are diminished, but the question here is the total which in the South was not total. Yes, they (black/white) landowners could not force slaves to work against their will, but generally speaking they held their property, even making arrangement to maintain a work force (share cropping). In Cuba all rights of ownership were ceased, the lawful owner of land/business and most homesteads became property of the State, many being confined or left the Island entirely. Most other laws in the South were maintained, right to ownership, freedom of commerce, even elections were maintained or shortly returned. Said simply another way, in Cuba Communism became the form of Governing...In the South it remained Constitutional Republic.

As you admit, the embargo has done nothing for 50 years. What do you want, another 50 years of a useless policy?

Some fled the South, as an analogy.

I don't want us to say that we no longer care about the release of political prisoners, free speech and religious rights, and free elections in Cuba, which we would be doing if we repeal the embargo, since those are the conditions set into US law for the repeal.

The new GOP mantra is if it's useless and ineffective we are for it.

I am glad the left believes recourse to Capitalism, is not useless; unlike the right.
