Do you think the working of democracy might have some problems ,if so ,could you list me some major problems.I remember somebody have said "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time". And the world have so many years of experiences including USA .Could we summarize some faults that we could avoid in the process of democratization in China. And we needn't to pass the same road of the worst form ,why cannot democracy be the best .

And some mouthpieces of the party monopoly always say the democracy in the western is controled by the big capatalist .For me ,I don't believe this ,the workers in the western country have their own labour union speak for them ,they could vote,it's alwasy better than so called communism in china where the working class have less rights. But is there any kind of monopoly between money and political power? and I know in some other countries ,their democracy is not as good as USA.It led to brainwash, struggle, and populism, and I believe we Chinese could and will avoid this only if we learn more experiences and have full discussion.

And I may issue an example ,today the water of the South water to North project began to feed the people in Beijing ,And in USA ,this could be mission impossible I think ,because the local people and the environmentalist would oppose this.at least it's a long process, but the party in China just do it careless of the local people .
I know the risk of this decision model, but their are always something people want and the party could do it efficiently and with no delay .How to balance the efficiency and dissension ,I think is indeed a problem.

the most obvious problem is, of course, mob rule. given enough time, even the most stringent rule of law designed to protect the minority can be worked around and the minority victimized. only constant vigilance and a moral society can guard against this fault. even then it is only a matter of time before a society's malcontents gain enough power to give vent to their envy and greed.

The OP is completely unaware of any difference between a democracy and a republic, and quite frankly, could not define either. I'd love to discuus the subject, but I'm not sure I want to remediate all that much. If anyone else reading is at least familiar with the nomenclature, I'd be willing to address the topic.

In a democracy, your will for yourself is superseded by the will of the majority.
In a libertarian-republic, your will for yourself supersedes everyone else's will for you
unless your will is to supersede the will of another.

A democracy is just another form of tyranny; it is the tyranny of the majority.

thanks for your reply and introduction. And that's why there are democrats and republican in USA? That's why they oppose obamacare?
But I think both are better than one party monopoly ,the most prominent deifference is freedom of speech. Either in democracy or republic you will have the basic human rights and you could talk for yourself .But here in China ,no full freedom of speech,in the internet whatever thread criticize the leader will be deleted.
here is a question for you ,if there would be a road passes through 10 houses ,and 9 agreed to let it go,and 1 stubbornly disgree ,and any other road will cost at least 3 times money and be less convenient ,how to deal with this .In China ,no problem ,if the leader say so ,do so ,unless the one disagree is a kin of a big leader ,haha

and Who decide what is your own will and what is the will of people ?

right ,and I think though democracy in USA is not perfect ,it have always been better.and many concept have rooted in the people's mind .But there are some worse places in the planet ,as in philippine , election had led gun fight and slaughter of other people If election is just one way for some evil people to get power shamelessly ,this could be a worse problem. In a one party monopoly society like China ,we always have hope because we know there is democracy ,but what if there is a bad democracy .

if your will is to live in a society where there is no gun ,how to suffice you .And gun problem I think IS A big problem in the states .
Though I admire the idea people should have the weapon to defend themselves against a bad government ,and maybe that's why in the long history of USA ,there have been no one dare to become a dictator.

The USA is a constitutional republic, a form of democracy which is not a democracy for a very good reason(s).

You've hit the nail on the head. The OP clearly has little knowledge of political systems and their advantages/disadvantages.

True Democracies, just like true Communistic societies have NEVER worked and never will.

No system is perfect. You have to take the good with the bad. The US has relative free speech and elections. China doesn't. In the US business has protection, you have property rights, reproductive rights, control over what you want to do, how you want to live, Ect. In China you don't. Removing those rights solves a lot of problems but creates a slew of others. Which you think is better is up to you. Then again, In China even if you wanted to leave you couldn't if they didn't want to let you and toss you in jail just for thinking it even and there wasn't a thing you could do about it. In the US you could pack up, buy a ticket and never return. No one would come after you. Which is better?

The main problem is that lazy drones find out they can vote in crooked politicians they will give them "free" money from working taxpayers.

If the majority of the group wants to ban the discussion of some topics, how does that support freedom of speech?

And, a "true democracy" does not protect the rights of minorities.

I don't think freedom of speech is you could talk whatever you want. if a good democracy don't have the potential to protect the minorities, how obama become a president?
Because I live in China ,and watch America ,I could feel the differences ,

democracy or autocrat could decline the numbers of idiots?and a good political system and media could maintain a standard that whoever you vote ,the country isn't going too bad .the premise is that's a good democracy.

In Germany ,you couldn't say you support Nazi ,or else you could be indicted. In America ,there is no such law .
But I will tell you what happens in China ,you could not ask how much money the officers have ,you could not criticize the high leaders ,you could not say "hey ,the constitution says protect the freedom of speech ,but we don't have it" ,you could not even say this .
and they could block the internet to stop people from getting true information.
I think it's essential and fundamental different .

Sir with all do respect, it depends almost wholly on the nature of the Democracy. There is pure democracy which hasn't existed since I believe the Swiss cantons of the 17th century. Some one who knows feel free to correct me if that same type of
Democracy still exists in Switzerland. Then there is a parliamentary Democracy. That is the type of Government currently extant in most of Europe. It offers slight more protection to minority parties than a pure Democracy but not by a lot. Then there is what we have in the United States which is pretty much completely different than what exists anywhere else in the world. When everything fully functions massive sea changes are all but impossible. This is largely the reason that the American left thinks Obama isn't far enough left. He simply hasn't been able to fully overcome the inertia built into the American system of governance.

I didn't say "that idiots exist" I said "that idiots can vote". The existance of idiots is unavoidable, but giving them the vote is not.

This has always troubled me, how do we estabilish who is an idiot and who is not? I can understand the necessity for higher standards of education but looks like some people are just advocating for an elite of noble people which will decide for anyone else... we already had it, it is called oligarchy.
