"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Defying the Republican-run Congress, President Barack Obama rejected a bill Tuesday to approve construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, wielding his veto power for only the third time in his presidency.

Obama offered no indication of whether he'll eventually issue a permit for the pipeline, whose construction has become a flashpoint in the U.S. debate about environmental policy and climate change. Instead, Obama sought to reassert his authority to make the decision himself, rebuffing GOP lawmakers who will control both the House and Senate for the remainder of the president's term." http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_OBAMA_KEYSTONE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Haven't seen this one posted yet but who didn't know this was going to happen. No way the veto gets over turned. What are your thoughts?

I think it shows that obama and the democrats care more about partisan politics than they do the environment.

    :knifefork: Bring it !

My thoughts are that I am not surprised, we have a traitor in the white house. The Caliph in the white house, is dead set on doing his best to help bring down the USA. Whether giving carte Blanche to the Aztec invaders, or inciting race riots he is our enemy.

    Obstructionist in Chief.

Now we get to see the real story as more train cars from his buddy Buffet dump tons of oil on our environment.

Now we get to see thousands of jobs lost.

Now we get to see China benefit from Barack Obama's denial of business and jobs.

No surprise, he said he was going to veto it.

Hmm...maybe he's finally kept his word on something.

Props mister pres for keeping your word.

Obama was for shovel-ready infrastructure projects before he was against them. ;)

    Yeah... 25 jobs..

We may not need Keystone especially if the Canadians have to take easements from US landowners via imminent domain.

Vienna, 24 February 2015--The price of OPEC basket of twelve crudes stood at 54.09 dollars a barrel on Monday, compared with $56.55 the previous Friday, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations.

If I recall correctly this was Obama's plan for energy independence.

We elected him as president to do what HE believes is best for the country and I think that's exactly what he is doing. The pipeline wouldn't have brought many long-standing jobs, rather temporary jobs that would force our unemployment to fall back down once the pipeline was completed. Plus, the pipeline would have been detrimental to our environment and really wouldn't have lowered our gas prices at all because it wasn't benefitting the US, rather foreign nations. I think Obama did the right thing and I don't think there is any way that the veto will be overturned.

No, you have it all wrong, those would have been thousands of good paying full time jobs until the completion of the pipeline, nice to try and equate it with the McDonalds jobs we've seen as the cornerstone of the Obama's minimum wage economy...

No doubt, and they currently are paying enough people to complete this project and simply having them do absolutely nothing right now, quite the business plan...

Which are either currently building pipelines, or they're laid off/bankrupt or just don't exist...meaning in order to do Keystone, they'd have to higher more people.

Dude, this is like home or bridge construction - you build it and move on to the next project. Liberals want to take on all these infrastucture projects and it's the same way; you build that bridge, you tar that road and you're done. At least there are jobs for the time it takes to build it.

At $54 a barrel we may not need Keystone.... In any case.. existing pipeline companies will bid on the job if it passes.

    We don't need no pipeline...

How long do you realistically think crude's gonna stay at $54 a barrel?

Probably just long enough for Canada to finalize a deal with the Chinese so we are totally screwed! :)

I have no idea.. I would expect it to rise to at least $70 a barrel.... but Keystone is only good for a half million barrels a day.. or more like 300,000. If the Keystone doesn't run at full capacity its not worth it..
