Again FreshAir, you are raising this issue to a level that in the dynamic of the moment pales in comparison to killing another human being. I'm thinking that the dead jihadi would be praising Alla, peace be upon him, if the American soldier had pissed on him instead of driving multiple slugs of metal jacketed lead through his heart and brain.

I'm not disgusted, not in the slightest.

I find it odd how you can elevate the minor offense to a dead soulless body to a point of outrage that eclipses the act of killing the enemy combatant. It is stretching my ability to think this argument is grounded in reality, it is surreal. "Go kill 'em boys, blow their heads clean of their bodies!" segues to "Oh my God, I cannot believe you just peed on that body, you should be ashamed, I'm disgusted!"

I just cannot rectify this imbalance in your sense of inequity; being pissed upon is a more egregious affront to humanity than the killing?

    It boggles the mind.

    Cheers

Firing multiple rounds through their chests at 2000fps causing fatal internal bleeding = okay

Making their lifeless, inanimate corpse a little bit wet = arrogant, puerile, deserving of death.

Yep, I cannot get my head around it either. "Mind numbing contortions required", should be a required warning label here.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? If we want to be on the unequivocal moral high ground here then we have to have strict standards of conduct. When we entered Germany in WWII we were fighting people even worse than the Islamist's. American soldiers raped about 14,000 German women and there was also no small amount of looting and other dishonorable acts. It was a drop in the bucket compared to the crimes committed by Nazi Germany, but it was still unacceptable.

The court of liberals? He was officially condemned by a court of his peers.
While i understand why they did it, and i dont blame them, filming it was just plain dumb. Once you hit post its there for the world to see.....including your superiors.

I hope his family finds some solace knowing his pain has ended. My thoughts are with them and far, far away from the mongrels who butchered his friend.

that's an interesting fact about US raping 14000 German women. I'll have to research it. Are you sure that's true & in that large a number?

Obviously you've never experienced war. I never saw a corpse defiled like that, but we did take pictures of, well, amusing positions of body parts of suicide bombers. If a fellow solider/airman/marine/sailor wanted to take a (*)(*)(*)(*) on a Taliban corpse I wouldn't have blinked. It's a bit showy to me, I would rather (*)(*)(*)(*) on a live one, or better yet just double tap and move on. Compared to what the Taliban did this is nothing, and compared to other crap that doesn't make the news in war it's pretty much a joke.

it's pointless to waste time altering a corpse or such. Just move on and kill the next American invader, set an IED, etc. That's much more productive IMO.

About half of all Afghanis live on less than a $1 a day. It is a poor country by all measures. The typical Taliban fighter is equipped with left over Soviet small arms and rocket propelled grenades. They have no Navy and no Air Force. They are up against the most powerful military on Earth that has at it's disposable, the latest in high technology to assist the warfighter on the ground. It is the definition of asymmetrical warfare.

The United States was never at risk of losing the war militarily, in either Iraq or Afghanistan...never. Where they lost, and I suppose it's debatable to use the term "lost," where they failed to achieve a measurable victory was in convincing the enemy, be it the Taliban or an Iraqi, to put down their rifles, to stop burying improvised explosives...to surrender basically.

This was a battle of hearts and minds.

Former Afghanistan Commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal, said back it n 2009.

Does anyone really think urinating on a corpse and uploading it to social media helped win Afghani hearts and minds? There are far more egregious things of course, but bottom line, it sure as heck doesn't help.

I understand the process of dehumanizing the enemy is a part of warfare and nothing new, but it helps also...to understand the enemy. I think very few actually understand the daily struggles of an Afghani, of living in abject poverty, of living in a country that has only known war for decades..and that is the greatest failure, that is why these protracted wars will never end.

    Know your enemy.

If these Marines actually understood who they were fighting, they would have known "advertising" these war trophies on social media would only further the divide in achieving some sort of measurable victory. Leave the cameras, and recording devices in the rucks. You want to have a private bonding moment by urinating on the corpse of someone who moments earlier tired to kill you and your buddies, I understand that; but it is a mistake to broadcast this. As it is, we will be leaving Afghanistan, for all intents and purposes, in the same condition we found it.

War torn, with the biggest export being Opium...which ironically killed this young man in a drug overdose.....

I believe that is the real tragedy.

Forgive me if I am wrong but you are the one who asked the question about raping innocent women. Raping innocent women is much much worse than pissing on a psycho Islamic nutjobs body by far. These 2 types of instances do not even belong in the same sentence.

Second of all the Nazi's were worse? NO, maybe bigger and more power behind them but definitely not any worse than ISIS or Boko Haram even. They both enjoyed killing people not of their ideals in the most greusome of manners, including children. The Nazi's didnt have a huge child sex trade going on like ISIS does though and the Germans were not killing their own just as ISIS is doing without hesitation. If ISIS had bigger numbers im pretty sure they would make the Nazi's as a whole look like (*)(*)(*)(*)ing care bears. I will tell ya what though, you can at least admire the Nazi's as ONLY AS FAR AS they werent cowards like ISIS and the many other typical psycho muslim groups who like to hide their faces and blend in with civilians like a bunch of chicken(*)(*)(*)(*)s.

Thirdly, I am pretty sure nobody here condones bad acts like rape amongst our soldiers actions, and WE DO have a strict code of conduct and our men and women in the military are pretty damned good at following those orders. If they didnt there would be nothing left in Iraq or Afghanistan. Remember when that American soldier in Iraq ambushed a family, raped the daughter and killed them? Yeah we didnt put up with that and his ass was charged as he should have been.

We hold our standards very high, but it seems some people always forget even us Americans are still human and will let emotion take over. But if pissing on the dead of the enemy is what gets under your skin, you need a stronger spine. Now I kinda wish they would have dismembered their bodies and hung them from trees, it would have at least been something to truly (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about. Id say fighting the enemy they have in front of them our troops have shown great restraint and poise given the situation of war. But to ask for perfection on that? yeah sorry once again they are still human, not emotionless robots. To be honest those psycho religion fruitcakes aren't even worth an ounce of respect for their dead given every single one of them would love to blow themselves up in the middle of a group of women and children for propaganda purposes, life is truly meaningless to these monsters. BUt even then, our troops have shown great restraint.

I think people over here who have NEVER even seen war need to stop[ putting themselves on such a high pedestal like they have been there and know exactly what they would do, how they would do it, and would always have perfect restraint in these situations. War seriously screws with peoples minds and these men and women volunteered themselves so we wouldnt have too. It's the hardest job in the world to do what they do in the situations they are put in. I think it is us, in general, that needs to show restraint and stop pretending that keeping your cool when bullets and bombs are coming at you is such an easy (*)(*)(*)(*)ing task. Stop pretending it is a movie where the hero is ice cold un the most dangerous of situations and comes out unscathed. These men bleed and die, and most likely they watch the ones closest to them bite it first and see their freinds guts or brains all over the sand.

Yeah, I think we can give the guys a free pass on this one and i think we need to save the (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing for actual horrific acts that can not be forgiven.

And please keep in mind im not going all personal on you, Im speaking in general.

I didnt say all lefties, I said it's a lefty thing. there are lefty's in the military and I have the same respect for them as i do any troop. I dont see political parties when it comes to our military, nor race or religion. All I see is the blanket that keeps us safer 24/7/365/INFINITI , and a group of our bravest individuals who would without question stand in front of us and take a bullet to protect us from any threat.

But let's be real on this....how often have right wingers bashed our troops? Just saying. Disrespect of the military is much more prevalent on the left than in the right of the general population. But no, I dont believe all liberals hate the military, that would be a very stupid thing to say.

Yes it's true. However if you think that is a large number... the consensus is that the Soviets raped about 2,000,000 German women during their invasion. A hundred thousand in Berlin alone. "Payback" in their eyes for the millions of Soviet women raped by the Germans, among other things.

Large scale conflict always carries with it an astounding amount of rape.

But were talking about inappropriate acts committed in the heat of war aren't we? Desecrating bodies, looting, raping, etc... these are all part of that dark cloud. I am not saying what this guy did was worse than what the Islamists do, or makes us worse or on level than the Islamists, but it does taint our colors, and the people excusing, or even defending this mans actions don't help that.

Oh god man do, you realize how many German citizens died in the concentration camps? Also the amount of rapes committed by the Axis on the Eastern Front more than makes up for the lack of organized sex trade.

If the Nazi's had won the war they would have fully implemented the Hunger Plan and half of Europe would have been starved to death to create a barren region to be colonized by Aryan families from the Fatherland. These families would start plantations; plantations worked by slaves who would be the last remnants of the slavic race. Eastern Europe would become the breadbasket for the prophesied thousand year reign of the Third Reich; a breadbasket built on the corpses of a hundred million souls.

We can go on all day about who would be worse if such and such happened or was a thing, but as it stands currently, the Nazi's were a far, far worse and more dangerous entity.

Which is because the Axis was on technological par with the Allies. It's not like that today. ISIS is trying to meet us in the field more than any other Islamist group I can think of in recent memory though. They have too, or else they can't really call themselves an army fighting for an actual state. Of course this also means were killing them faster than any Islamist group in recent memory too.

Of course, but we can always strive to do better, and if you don't think there are people out there who condone this sort of behavior or worse, just look at some of the posts on the very first page of this thread. It's disgusting.

I am someone who has a keen interest in military history, and I can say than by and by, the US has one of the "cleanest" of any country out there. In the majority of our conflicts we have at least made an effort to be the most honorable, be the most restrained, and that's admirable. But it doesn't mean we should just keep to a current level of "good".

It is true that people should think about what these men and women go through before judging, but they are not immune to criticism. Making the military immune to criticism is one of the worst things we could do. I firmly believe this country was to hard on the people who served in Vietnam. It was the brass and the government that deserved most of he heat for what happened in that war. However at times I think the pendulum has swung a little to far to the other side.

I agree that this should be a footnote compared to much more serious acts like Abu Ghraib (a situation in which nowhere near enough asses got sent to the can for). That doesn't mean it should be completely ignored though; especially since it was video taped an allowed to get onto social media.

But it is being blown way out of proportion given the situation. And mostly by people who don't even try to comprehend the nature of war. If one of our troops does something truly vile like purposely murder an innocent or rapes a woman then yeah I can understand the outrage that would follow. We are better than that, and in reality we are very well mannered in wars.Hell as a nation we were a hell of a lot more hostile to innocent American's during the civil war by far compared to what goes on in the ME.

Excuse the actions, no because if we do that then we would see more of the worse actions. Discipline is a must. But at the same time and lets not over react over something so minimal, save it for the real screw ups. Our troops do need to know we are on their side, and we need to understand the nature of war before we go all "Self Righteous" on them.

Yes I stand corrected that Nazi's did kill other German's, especially the mentally disabled and those who they persecuted for helping Jews. Also the "amount" of anything in this instance does not mean anything, it is the intent and ideology of the groups that bind them.

And what do you think would happen to most of the world if ISIS grew strong enough to conquer it? Like I said before, the number does not mean a thing because ISIS wishes to do the same (*)(*)(*)(*) as the Nazi's which is total domination, they want total servitude by the rest of us. The only thing different between ISIS of now and the Nazi's of WWII is sheer numbers and military strength. Other than that they share the same basic principle. BUT if ISIS were to grow to the size of the Nazi's and had their military capabilities we would be in trouble. ISIS has one edge over the Nazi's that makes them a bigger danger and a more violent beast.... ISIS is not at all afraid to die, Nazi's at least valued their own lives. Every ISIS member is quite literally a walking time bomb and they will not hesitate to blow themselves up . Just be glad they are smaller in numbers.

And lets hope it stays that way, for the sake of everyone.

I must admit that I really don't care about religious psychos getting their dead bodies pee'd on. I could honestly care less about the respect given to the enemy. My care goes to the innocent people who are harmed in battle and have nothing to do with the people we, or anyone are fighting. Respect for the enemy to me is something that is on the backburner, but I will agree that we need not fall onto the level of the enemy. And in the case that one of our troops does in fact fall to the enemies standard, they should be made an example of.

Yes we can always strive to do better in life in general, but war is a whole different matter. Yes we need to do our best to keep our record clean, but at the same time we can always ask for so much in this situation. For ANY fighter in a war the last thing they are thinking about is media perception. Survival kicks in, adrenaline, "kill them all" mentality, stress, anxiety, fear, panic attacks, etc. etc. all at once. And yes eventually SOMEBODY will break and lose it. It is part of war and you are never going to avoid it unless we send robots into battle. It is no different than a father walking up on someone hurting his child, he breaks and loses all morality and does what he does to protect his kid. It's instinct, human nature. Remember, WE THE PEOPLE send them into these places, we literally control their fate.

Nothing is immune to criticism, it is part of keeping things in line. Without criticism we would not learn from mistakes. And we sure as hell learned a lot from Vietnam, what a cluster(*)(*)(*)(*) that was. And our troops suffered the most. they had their home nation screaming at them and an enemy in front trying to kill them. And led by morons sitting safely in their kushy chairs.

For the most part we agree on the situation, but we see a hell of a lot more in social media that makes this look like a joke. I understand that we need to keep it clean, but this is just a minor blip and shouldn't have been overblown the way it was. We are the United States, we do have a reputation to uphold, we should be leading by example. BUT when you are sent to war and watch these religious psychos do the thing they do from hanging our soldiers on bridges mutilated after they dragged his body through the ground and stripped him naked and making a mockery of him for the world to see, most importantly his family........ It is going to (*)(*)(*)(*) the troops off to no end. They are watching their brother being extremely disrespected and probably thinking about the guys wife and kids(if he has them) that must endure this situation.

Yeah, eventually something bad is going to happen. But if this urination was the end game, the retaliation.....people need to chill the hell out lol.

Im a mom. We are blessed with ear filters the day our first baby is born. The really cool part is that with each subsequent kid that filter gets better and better equipped to deal with life....otherwise the moms of the world would all snap.
    Example:
(Riding in car...kids in back seat. Worst part....kids that God gave speech much too soon. )
    Both kids: stoptouchingmestoptouchingme!
*imaginary line drawn down center of seat*

Child 1. Dont cross that line.
Child 2. *finger edging closer to line*
Child 1. I can see you. Dont cross that line.
    Child 2. *finger edges closer*
Child 1. I tole you dont cross that line.
Child 2. Moooooo-ooom hes looking at me!
Child 1. Cross it. See what happens.
    Child 2. *finger crosses line*
    ****smack!!!****
    Child 1. Warned you.
Child 2. Moooo---oooom hes touching me!

    See: thick filters. Very thick.
