Germans have paid for their Sins, Americans haven't. That's the difference with your analogy.

There are no sins for us to pay for. Those days are long gone. If someone can still have hurt feelings or anger over something that ended 150 years ago, they belong in a mental institution.

Social issues and political views are not football games with fans cheering on their team. EVRYONE I know has varying views on ALL issues. Sad that right wingers more often than not, toe the party line regardless of how ridiculous the right wing talking point stance is. Labels are for the limited of mind and deed. When I hear and see Affleck, I don't hear or see a label, I hear ad see a self important idiot without a clue. Would you really like some examples of some of the stupidest celebrities and their party association? Would you really like to open that ugly can of worms?

What a ridiculous freaking claim. Let me guess...you support killing babies, gun control, national health care, common core, gay marriage, welfare spending, and are against war?

Indeed... Must be the reason why Conservatives have started to break away from Republicans.

Psh. The only way she wins is if the progressive liberals are able to cheat the system as well as they did in 2012.

You have to be fair, conservatives are totally predictable. Almost like they read from the same hymn sheet, brainwashed don't you think?

Are we? The only things we all believe in are the things that have been proven to work like, you know, capitalism, freedom, the free market, hard work, the 2nd Amendment, local governments, achievements, and personal responsibility.

Those are things that liberals despise.

I ask you to defend your claims but, oops, youre banned. :roflol:

Oh, you mean like Congress and the Senate dominated by Progressive Democrats voting lock step for Obamacare without reading it. Just as the majority of Progressive Liberals in are in lock step with the White House showering them with money and adulation while the rest of the country is mainly unemployed and the leader of this country condones racial strife.

For sure. As long as we got us that's all that matters, screw the world. We may be despised by "god's chosen" but to hell with god.

Ben Affleck Is a freaking dumb-a**. These Hollywood types pick up on some cause and think their experience as a actor relates to the real world. Freaking idiots.

When Bill Mahr punks you, you know you are an imbecile.

I don't know anyone who'd proudly exclaim such a thing, but there shouldn't be an issue with simply acknowledging it.

As my family's historian, I report on all of it, not just the things that people wish to take pride in. People make requests that I omit all sorts of silly things from the narrative and my records; I don't oblige them. I am about documenting the facts, not hiding them, politicizing them, or distorting them. Nor am I about making up facts to give someone a more interesting family history.

Wanting to hide something like an ancestor's holding of slaves has nothing to do with the liberal/conservative partisan divide, nor does it have anything to do with people who work for Wal*Mart, nor how much better today's workers have it than those in days past. Those are all pointless distractions and bait.

What it is, is an attempt to avoid the distribution of information that one finds personally embarrassing, whether or not one feels any personal responsibility. On the flip-side, I similarly find it odd when people boast about their ancestors' military service in various times of war, or their ancestors' social status. It's not like either thing should be a source of shame or pride, since these aren't one's own personal failures or accomplishments.

I haven't owned any slaves. I haven't done anything heroic on the battlefield. Whether or not my ancestors did either one, these are not reflections on me, my character, or my own actions. They are simply interesting facts that are informative as to the circumstances of a different time. They need to be viewed in the fuller context of the history they belong to, not through the lens of our own times.

I still like Ben Affleck. He had no control over what his ancestors did.

He's still kind of a dummy though.

There is an enormous difference between proudly telling the world and simply acknowledging a fact.

Why not? It's not like any Africans objected to us taking their slaves is it? It was only when these liberal opposed it hundreds of years later that everyone decided it was wrong. It was normal at the time and everyone agreed to the trade

If you'll notice, things like this are usually at the root of why finger wagging white liberals act the way that they do. They can't make peace with the guilt they feel about their own lives so they just project it onto you.

    It's a sickness, really.

Or perhaps, like many others today, he is embarrassed and ashamed about it. I suspect that many people, if they looked hard enough, would find ancestors who owned slaves. it was a very common practice in this country for nearly 200 years, and far longer in Europe and elsewhere.

And most people today are embarrassed or ashamed of what their kin did hundreds of years ago. Sheesh
