Many cultures in the past accepted homosexuality such as Rome, Persia, and Asia, and it makes sense to have sex recreationally with whomever you please when the goal is not procreation.
We know the Bible played a big role in the anti-gay culture, but we're unsure of why Christianity took that stance? Is it simply because homosexual unions don't produce children that it was deemed unnatural, or were there movements or events that made homosexuality seem contrary or heathen?
We need somebody who can explain this.
When did the actual homophobia appear as a doctrine or a social movement?

You're unsure as to why Christianity took this stance? Really? You do realize Jesus claimed to be the son of the God that inspired the Bible, yes?

Fundamentalism, which states that the Bible is literal, inerrant and everything in it is relevant for today.

Perhaps it is not coincidental that despotism was overwhelmingly the rule in those cultures.

No it doesn't. It just feels good.

    What you mean, "we", Kemosabe?

Not only did Christ never repudiate "homophobic" Mosaic law, He claimed to have authored it.

It was first deigned as an abomination by Moses when he wrote the Torah.

And the Torah is the first five books of the Judeo Christian Bible.

Before that it was use to intimidate and destroy people. It was a very powerful way of dehumanizing a person when a person of the same gender was basically raped in front of lots of people. There was no better way to take away a person'[s power and reputation. not even killing a person would dehumanze them.

human beings have always had a natural aversion to homosexuality. It's really since the advent of the Hebrew religion and the Christian religion that has actively made anti homosexual legislation.

Homosexuality identity is a modern Western construction, which has developed thanks to capitalism.
Anti-homosexuality has also arose due the weakening of domestic bonds. The spread of both homosexuality and anti-homosexuality has been spread thanks to globalization. However, there cannot be an accurate or one-answer to anti-homosexuality because the definition of "homosexuality" has changed and mutated over time.
However it must have appeared as a defensive measure to homosexual invasion...

Actually, Satan inspired the bible to deceive mankind.
Constantine was no christian when he concocted it at the council of nicea. He got the books put in that satan inspired him to.

History bit: the word homosexuality didn't first appear until a German coined it in 1868, and it first appeared in Bibles in 1946. Homosexuality *as we understand it today* wasn't what was widely accepted in history. Many cultures accepted what we would call homosexual sex because of their very different views on sex, but the idea of homosexual marriage wasn't widespread. The Roman view of sexuality was generally unacceptable or undesirable to be the non-aggressor. So for MOSTLY Romans, it was OK for a man to pent rate another man, but for a man to be penetrated was to say the least frowned upon. In Athens and a good portion of Greece women were understood to just be underdeveloped - they believed that there was a stage in the womb where the pens "dropped" you might say, but this didn't happen for some and so they became the lesser women, so homosexual sex wasn't so weird to them. It was actually in some ways desirable, but still generally as the aggressor. It was acceptable for land generally understood that mentors would have have sex with their mentees.

But even in these societies it was generally understood that these same men would still have wives. Quite simply, our understanding of sexuality has changed radically, and mostly in ways that people today would appreciate. The monogamy bit was far from exclusively Christian - it was big in much of the ancient world, especially what in ancient Rome would be called the barbaric world (Germans, Celts, etc.). But the idea of a monogamous homosexual relationship, or even an exclusively homosexual life, is not quite so ancient.

That homosexual sex is taboo is nothing new - like I said, even in Ancient society it wasn't so broadly accepted, and even then usually only in certain ways - typically accepted for the aggressor.

But why? Well, that's much deeper than you think, for reasons mentioned. Why are sexual norms what they are? Why did the Romans view sex as an aggressor or "receiver" so differently? I can't really tell you that. I don't know if anyone can.

Before there was cultural-Marxism and political correctness, homosexual sex was referred to as

    BUGGERY

A capital offense in the Royal Navy back when men were men and women liked men.

Jesus hung around with men, wasn't married, and apparently had no kids.

The idea that hostility towards homosexuality originated with Christianity is very, very wrong. Gays remain more in the closet in Confucian / east Asian cultures than they are in the west, there are also Hindu constructions against homosexuality which claim it to be contrary to proper dharma. Indigenous American cultures such as the Aztecs would punish homosexuality with death. It's specious to attribute Jewish and Muslim hostility towards homosexuality to Christianity because one predated Christianity and the other followed it. Countless minor and dead religions also rejected homosexuality. Rejection of homosexuality has been the norm, not the exception.

There's a movement to retcon the weight of historical evidence in the west and make hostility towards homosexuality a uniquely Christian thing, the rest of the world is clearly not being fooled no matter what some westerners can be convinced of.

You have the history all wrong. Homosexuality really wasn't that accepted in any culture and "anti-homosexual" sentiment didn't begin with Christianity.

"Homophobia" is a term that was made up to shame those who happen to disagree with homosexuality. Why is it considered such a bad thing to disagree with someone on this topic?

Probably a bigger question would be to ask why some are so concerned with attitudes toward gays in western cultures yet completely ignore the fact that in places like Iran gays are put to death.

More likely a combination of things. The two most obvious are, as you have suggested sort of, it was a rejection of ancient culture in the same way modern people reject something like what is now the Amish culture which used to be more like the mainstream culture; and the other being that religion's money in the bank is for parents to instill the same religion in their children so homosexuality being acceptable curbs the spreading of the faith.

    1) Despotism? Can you name a culture or nation back then that wasn't? Of course not. Even Herod Antipas, King of Galilee, was a despot.

    2) Both hetero and homosexuals have recreational sex and if it didn't feel good, they wouldn't do it.

    3) JC never said a word about homosexuality nor did he quote anything from past text. If setting an example means anything, he basically only hung around guys all the time, some who abandon their wives to follow him.
A guy who can turn water into wine might be very popular with some.

The overall obsession with homosexuality (per se) past/present is what generally blows my mind.

There is a massive host of other issues or problems human beings could attend to (from a religious perspective or otherwise), but homosexuality is this BIG THING. LOL!! :)

It just makes no real sense to me.

I tend to agree with this. There is a false narrative out there, but you realize that the religious anti-gay groups do nothing to contradict it.

The problem is and always has been a minority issue. When a small number of people are different in a certain way it becomes very easy for them to be made scapegoats. In this case religion is just a justification for negative social behavior.

A powerful case can be presented that the Roman Centurion who is commended for having great faith, was very probably engaged in a homosexual or bi-sexual relationship with the young man that he begged Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus to heal.

Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus reacted very differently than perhaps well over fifty percent of pastors might do in 2015 if confronted with a similar case.

I have began several discussions here on another way of looking at this topic:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/gay-lesbian-rights/380595-g-ds-agenda-gay-community.html
G-d's Agenda for the Gay Community?!
Assuming the accuracy of the following two paragraphs...… what specifically would G-d/ HaShem/ YHWH/ The G-d of Abraham be planning to do through the Gay Community?

    http://www.near-death.com/andreason.html#a11

Obviously..... one of the things that our Creator wishes to do through the Gay Community..... is to create a whole new world in which there....."would never be one single wisecrack or hurtful remark made ever again"... is expanded and expanded and expanded to all groups and communities on earth?!

    I think?!

The concept of exclusive homosexuality, and forcing society to put it on par with traditional normal marriage or status was unheard of in all those places.

I work with a liberal black man from Baltimore. He's a non-religious guy who manages our building's facilities. We went to a bar where a few gay men were at and he told us (friends) that if they even looked at him he'd knock them out.

I think your anti-Christian agenda doesn't solve the problem.

    No. Why do you ask?

    Your point being...?

We don't have a complete record of His utterances during His earthly ministry, so this means nothing.

    So what?

And what precisely is that supposed to be setting an example of?

    C&V, please.

They're both imaginary, but Satan is a fun symbol of nonconformism. Satan wins in my book.
