Those homemade shotguns are a Federal no no.

The people that run gun buyback programs have a pathological aversion to anyone breaking any gun control law.

You see, guns are only for important people, their bodyguards/police and the military of their regime.

Beginning in 1934, the U.S. government has placed a "tax" on several types of guns, including short-barreled shotguns. The tax is only 1 dollar, but the penalty is very severe. The law makes it a criminal offense merely to own one of these guns that has not been registered. Many unfortunate people have served 18-month prison sentences because they sawed off the barrel of their ordinary shotgun, not knowing any better.

Constitutional? Probably not, but that is a different issue...

A clever, mechanical person ( I'm not) would not bother making such primivite weapons as the OP video teaches. A better way to have a decent modern weapon would be to buy an 80% AR lower receiver and a complete AR upper and other parts without the need of the nosey Feds. A simple barter exchange could be made to finish the AR lower---and presto----one now has a basic starting point to be properly armed.

No, they are not illegal as long as the barrel length is over 18" and overall it is over 26". You are allowed to make guns for your own use.

I think the legal eagles at the gun buyback places would not feel inclined to take in a crude homemade weapon as in the OP. But I could be wrong.

If the cities with these silly programs wanted to actually reduce crime, they should have a place where they can turn in criminals without them coming back out on the street a few days later.

Thus showing the futility of attempting to restrict firearms to any meaningful degree. One could easily construct such a shotgun, and use it as a method of confronting a police officer, and forcing them to disarm, thus giving the individual access to their service weapons.

The only real question is how many shotgun rounds could such a construct use before it exploded from the pressure of the discharge?

It only needs to work once.

The purpose of this gun is to get a free gift card for $5 in parts. It doesn't even have to work.

It doesn't even have to be a firearm. It could be a homemade bow and arrow, or blow tube with darts coated in a fast acting neurotoxin...

The idea that you could keep guns away from bad guys willing to kill is just ridiculous.

If people were arrested at these firearm buyback operations, no one would ever participate with them. Those that are without extensive knowledge of their local firearm laws would have no way of knowing whether or not the firearms they seek to turn in are illegal or not.

I've got a cut off vented-rib barrel for my Mossberg, but it is 2 inches longer than one that qualifies for sentencing. Nice bush gun for rabbits and birds.

..or in some cases, people aren't aware that some of them [guns] might just be worth a lot of money. Cops love to get their hands on those

I'm the Grey Man. I don't like drawing too much attention to myself. Besides, I'm rather attend a service at Rev. Wright's G-D America Church, than be around the gun buyback crowd.
