Marijuana legalization is only supported by stoners. No exceptions.

If there really were any people who supported marijuana legalization that didn't smoke, it would have been legalized by now. Just like how gay marriage is still illegal because only gays support it. Those are only two of many issues I'm sick of hearing about.

It's not legal because drug companies, lumber companies, cotton companies, oil companies, and several other industries all pay billions to make sure it stays illegal, because if weed was legal, they would lose money.

Also, not all people who do not use weed are evil scumbag facists. At least some of them actually care about liberty.

Legalizing drugs is not a legitimate example of liberty. You sound like a pot smoker.

Exception: I don't smoke, never have; but I'd rather it be legal than cigarettes.

So you are saying the government should have the right to tell you what you are allowed to put into your body. Spoken like a true facist.

A recent poll from CBS News asserts that 53% of Americans (who voted on the poll) support legalization of marijuana. Of course, there are a variety of different polls from different sources, however the majority of them show that a majority of Americans are now supporting legalization.

    Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/20/americans-support-legaliz_n_7101132.html

That being said, some 5% (and this is probably a very inaccurate percentage) of people in the U.S. smoke marijuana on a regular basis. Point is, many of the people supporting legalization don't actually use marijuana, statistically speaking. Your claims are false sir, and to make such a bold statement without reviewing any of the facts is beyond ignorant.

You seem to post this exact same thread over and over again. What gives?

Brilliantly said! However, I am unsure if you'd extend this principle to the FDA and other illicit drugs. If I have the right to put whatever I want into my body, what justification can there be for the FDA making it illegal for me to consume any substance? They assert the right to assess all new medicines before they go on the market, that's completely inconsistant with my right to put whatever I want into my body.

And what of harder drugs like ice, heroin or crack cocaine? I support their legalization, absolute deregulation and lack of taxation - but not many others do.

How is that? It is not a legitimate right to decide what goes into your body?

To take a poll of those who support legalizing marijuana is just like taking a poll of those who smoke it. The results come out the same.

Not when it endangers the well-being and morality of the general public.

The poll ask whether or not people support legalization, it's not specifically for people who support legalization, that's not how a poll works. What about states who have actually legalized marijuana? What do you say to all the voters voted for these bills?

Over half the country is smoking cannabis? Are you? Seems like you are if you think that's true.

I'll bet they're all regretting it.

Wouldn't surprise me, just look at how degenerate and permissive we've become.

Well, the thing with those drugs is that they do pose serious harm to the public, as well as to the user. And if we were to completely legalize it, we'd be like the District(Columbia). I'm not sure you want a country where drugs are flying all over the place and where disease spreads because people weren't informed and didn't take proper health measures.

I'm tired of hearing about invisible sky-daddies telling goat herders what federal and state laws should be. And I am sick of people saying that integration is working and that blacks don't need to take personal responsibility for their actions. But most of all, I am tired of people saying Tom Brady knew the balls were 11.5 psi.

But they aren't? Do you research anything or do you just make wild assertions and state them as fact?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/art-way/colorado-and-marijuana-le_b_6397664.html

There has been a noticeable decline in youths using marijuana in Colorado since legalization, in part from all the anti-marijuana campaigning that has been done using taxes from the marijuana industry!

What anti-marijuana campaigning? If they legalized pot, why would they do a 180 and go against it?

All drugs should be decriminalized. Allowed for personal use in one's own home, but illegal for public use and possession. Weed should be legalized. Allowed for public use in licensed establishments, just like alcohol.

Instead of arrested people for possession, however, we fine them, and put money into needle exchange and rehap programs.

That is what Portugul did, and their drug crime rates are among the lowest in the world now.

They legalized marijuana because that's what the voters of Colorado wanted. However, no rational person wants all of the youth of America getting stoned all day every day, just like they don't want kids getting drunk every night. I support legalization, but that doesn't mean I want the youth of America smoking weed and what have you. You're drawing the wrong connections.

What country do you live in exactly? Are drugs not currently flying all over the place? Are people not currently misusing them and spreading disease because they have no legal alternative to sharing needles and the such? Are people certain that what's in their MDMA is actually MDMA?

The legal market would solve all of these issues, just like it has for alcohol. Sure, it comes with its own set of problems - the state thieves with excise taxes, and enacts a whole myriad of punitive regulations - but it's a lot less dangerous than the black market.

I have nothing against the black market, I'll use it regardless of whether drugs are legalized. I hate overregulation. My worst nightmare is a world where cannabis is regulated and taxed like tobacco. In such a world I will cultivate in defiance of those laws.

That doesn't change the fact that a lot of people are dying because they're forced into illicit, uneducated drug use. There is no way to stop them using. This notion that they're victims at the hands of evil drug sellers is just bull****. They're adults, not children - we should treat them as such. They've made the choice to use drugs. So be it.

I'm not smoking currently so I have no tolerance for my trip to Europe, but when I'm there I'll smoke for both of us :)

I dont smoke weed. I tried it once or twice, but didnt feel like paying 200 bucks to get paranoid and hungry. But, unlike evil, scumbag facist, like yourself, I do not believe that other people should be forced to stop something just because I do not like to do it myself.

I have no interest in such things, but I'd prefer it over the current system.

I'll use the black market regardless. No regulation, no taxation, just personal cultivation/manufacture. That's the way I like it.

How does someone smoking weed in their home effect the general public?

And if morality is an issue lets outlaw racism, and throw all racists in prison as well, since it's immoral.

I live in the U.S. A country where States can thankfully make these decisions on a case-by-case basis. And as someone running for State Rep, I intend for Pennsylvania to follow Washington and Colorado as best I can. I support the legalization of Marijuana. And, to your disappointment I intend to tax and regulate it.

Both because the State Revenues would be put to good use and that we really don't want the Black Market around. Illict criminal activity endangers neighborhoods, schools, etc everyday. By isolating and targeting the Black Market, we can cripple it. Complete deregulation would just allow them to act openly(or move onto something else.)

So you're saying you want us to be more like Europe? Wasn't America founded so we can be different from Europe?

Well that part is to my disappointment, but it's certainly better than the alternative. If possession is legal we can evade such measures with ease. My favorite laws are ones which make personal cultivation legal. Say... cultivation of 2 plants on your own property for your own use.

You don't have a choice in the matter, that's what makes black markets so great :)

Regulation has done nothing but encourage tobacco black markets. A significant quantity of tobacco smoked in Australia is illegally sourced from black markets, because the regulation is so damn onerous (plain packaging with pictures of rotting lungs and cancerous bladders), and the taxation accounts for like 60% of the price.

The internet has made black markets a permanent reality. Anyone can, with 30 minutes of minimal effort and intelligence, have whatever drug or commodity they want in transit, and at their door before the end of the week. That goes for tobacco, alcohol, weapons, whatever you want.

    How great is modern life!
