Well, when I look deeper, I see that I need to distinguish between number of perpetrators, and number of perpetrations, so to speak. The coverup by the Church, once exposed, showed that individual priests were guilty of molesting dozens and dozens of kids, because they kept getting moved to greener pastures when the heat got turned up. But it's important to distinguish between a few priests doing a LOT of this, and a lot of priests doing any of this. These numbers are pretty much unavailable.

The "moral superiority" thing is important, because that's all the Church has to offer. They don't actually offer a product to their flock, other than to convince the flock that their faith makes them superior. And sure enough, the Church is in a couple of nosedives. Financial (fewer asses in pews) and respectful (look at the Irish vote). Catholicism and mainstream Protestantism are both fading rapidly, while the born-again evangelicals are booming.

Come on, do you think we are idiots? Yes, it is long standing church policy that we are all sinners, and that Christ died for our sins, and so on. Now, when did you EVER hear a priest confess to some specific sin? When did one say "I happen to be a drunk" or "I sometimes rape little boys"?

No, the problem is they covered up their "mistakes" and lied about them for decades. Those aren't mistakes, that's systematic and intentional criminal conduct- all from people who claim moral superiority. That is the problem. No one cares if people are Catholic.

I have heard one say he was a drunk. I've heard another priest say that he has a problem with holding grudges, and was working through some problems with that and a relative of his. I've never known a priest that raped little boys. Drunk priests are pretty common. I've met several. Pedophile priests are fairly rare.

This seems to be the case. Pedophiles themselves are rare, regardless of profession or orientation.

Sadly, when I was younger I had a friend who got AIDS from his priest. That was back in the 80s when no one discussed such things aloud.

The girl scouts allow boys who think they are girls into the organization.

If there's a a double standard in favor of openly gay men I oppose that.

It might be true that males are allowed to supervise girl scouts, but they aren't allowed to do it without accompaniment from women if I read correctly.

So by the same standard, it's hypocritical to allow gay men to supervise boy scouts without accompaniment.

As long as the standards are the same, I have no problem with it - but it looks like special accommodations are being made just for gay men in the name of political correctness.
