The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s branch in Egypt has claimed a wave of attacks on military checkpoints in the Sinai Peninsula that killed at least 15 soldiers on Wednesday.

“In a blessed raid enabled by God, the lions of the caliphate have simultaneously attacked more than 15 checkpoints belonging to the apostate army,” the group said in a statement posted on social media websites.

Reuters has reported that at least 30 people were killed in the attacks, including military personnel, with Doctor Osama el-Sayed at El-Arish General Hospital saying the hospital had received 30 bodies, “some of whom were wearing army fatigues.

Good thing Obama stabilized that region. He created this wonderful Arab Spring. Actually, Hillary credited herself for it.

    Thanks Hil :)

The Egyptian military is not comprised of cowards and run by idiots. They will survive.

An Egyptian official was quoted in "A-Shurok" Egyptian news paper about 64 dead soldiers, they really got them bad, that's the entire garrison of the town, they captured heavy weapons and vehicles such as Tanks,

Too bad Egypt will never ask for assistance from Israel, it could have been a binding moment.

    NO.

Their communicate [which reminds the ones issued by Italian Fascists] is simply propaganda. They hope to find enough support in Egypt to cause a new Islamist rebellion [with the clear intention to find an alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood]. Unfortunately Egyptian Army is a tough opponent to face. A matter is to do something in Sinai an other matter is to cross over Red Sea to do something more meaningful in proper Egyptian territory.

Those in America who invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq, which has destabilized this region, providing the fertile environment for what you see today, should be tried for war crimes. This is what stupid men, in our gov't have created.

But it was the neocon plan, and we know who the conspirators are.

Egyptians are VERY national, like Israelis I suppose, a soldier is regarded very highly and the Gov will use it to unite the nation, it also means the slim chances of reconcile between the nationals and the MB are now none existent, which means never ending terror.......

    Welcome to the neighborhood

And Egyptian Army is well equipped, partially trained by Americans and they can count on Western support in case of conflict with ISIS. The buddies of the Caliph have got no hopes ...

Not to underline that NATO presence in that area is impressive, if the anti ISIS coalition asks for help ... the times of interventions are substantially irrelevant. Just to say also we have got operative units in Gibuti [in the sense that after decades of cohabitation with the Americans in their base, today even Italy has got its own base there, so imagine ...].

Suez is too pivotal to allow a bunch of Islamist loonies cause a mess there ...

ISIS is making their move for Gaza. They likely have signifigant support inside Gaza already and this attack is an attempt to gain control of the border between Gaza and the Siani hoping it will inspire an uprising inside Gaza that ousts Hamas and allows ISIS to assume control of Gaza.

I doubt ISIS will be able to pull it off, but it's a disaster either way because it finally will draw Israel into direct conflict with ISIS.

History, let alone this forum, will never forget it was Bush who got us into this mess.

    Here's an after/before image of Iraq -

Up to you if you enjoy murder and want to create ISIS all over the middle east. I somehow suspect it will effect you more than me.

The Egyptian government should actually step up their executions of MB members. Takfiris/Salafists/ISIS should be stripped of all human rights and executed on the spot. No lawyers, no questions asked. The sooner the Egyptian government speeds up executions the better.

Only today I was reading of their intention of being able to speed up the killing of those they claim to be terrorists.

You no doubt are in for a whole lot of fun.....the future, for our children, not so good.

There is no any other way. As Sunni radical Muslims cannot be reformed they must be exterminated across the world for the sake of future generations. Sunni radicals are plague on this world. Anyone who took up arms in Syria and returned back to Europe should be immediately locked up for at least 20 years. Hard labour. Anyone caught in the Middle East fighting for ISIS - execution on the spot.

Is Egypt unstable right now? I mean you still have some attacks on the Coptic Christians but I wouldn't say the military's dealing with its own people any more than it would've if it had just suppressed the first protests.

"Egypt's army said on Wednesday more than 100 militants and 17 soldiers were killed after simultaneous assaults on military checkpoints in North Sinai, in the deadliest fighting in years in the restive province.

"After a day of fighting, which involved F-16 jets and Apache helicopters, the army said it would not stop its operations until it had cleared the area of all 'terrorist concentrations'.

"By late Wednesday, an army spokesman said the situation in North Sinai was '100 percent under control'. Security sources and witnesses later said aerial bombardments on militant targets had resumed.

"Islamic State's Egyptian affiliate, Sinai Province, had claimed responsibility, saying it attacked more than 15 security sites and carried out three suicide bombings."

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/01/us-egypt-security-sinai-idUSKCN0PB3VJ20150701

IS had urged its followers to escalate attacks during Ramadan. Judging by today's assault in Sheikh Zuweid, the intensive Egyptian counter-terrorism military campaign in Sinai over the past six months has not noticeably reduced the terrorists' ranks or resolve.
