    http://thefreethoughtproject.com/dont-hurt-police-break-law-30-examples-statement-epic-fail/

Many government apologists defend the constant progression of the police state in the US with the excuse that if you do not break the law you have nothing to fear from the police. This is a blatant lie and the following article illustrates that.
This article shows 30 people who were assaulted some of them killed by the police state despite the fact they had committed no crimes. Some in fact were physically or mentally disabled. These types of assaults happen every day with police having no fear of retribution due to protection by qualified immunity laws which protect them from crimes they commit.

Well I think you should inform all the law enforcement officers currently sitting in prison that they actually do not need to be there because of immunity laws.

    LOL

I've always obeyed the law and never made a big stink the few times a cop has pulled me over and surprise, surprise, NEVER been arrested or harassed. The closest thing was a trooper in N. FL gave me crap for my college sticker, because he was a fan of a rival school. It was a B.S. speeding ticket for passing 2 semis that were boxing me in. I would've been crushed, but the trooped didn't care. Whatever. Probably thought, hey this kid can afford it, he goes to college X.

Yes. Every police officer in the United States is perfect. Mistakes are never made. Every one of them is above reproach. Clearly bad things happen, mistakes happen... but the chances of something like those cases happening to you is less likely than winning the lottery. The amount of mistakes vs proper interaction is negligible, statistically... and there are repercussions for making such errors in judgement.

Quiz time: How many of the officers mentioned in those 30 cases were tried and punished for these incidents?

heh I love some of the examples you used, the guy who says he's been pulled over 30-40 times over the years is my favorite... how many times have you been pulled over by the police? I mean come on this is just funny stuff for some of these...

I don't dismiss, that sometimes cops make poor choices and that sometimes that results in harm... but sometimes, just sometimes, it really is the stupidity of the "victims" that escalated things and nobody ever seems to want to hold them accountable either...

lets go back to the guy who has been pulled over 30-40 times by his own admission... in the story used for this proof, it says he was being held at gunpoint... and he had his hands up in the air... and the officer reached in to unlock the door and then open it... THE MAN ADMITS HE YANKED THE DOOR SHUT... so he stopped the officer who at this point had him at gunpoint from opening the door... he entered into a physical altercation when he was being given lawful orders at this point to surrender himself... at gunpoint... and HE resisted and made aggressive actions be preventing the officer from taking him into arrest while guns were drawn...

in what world is this EVER going to end well... we can argue all day long if he deserved to be detained, or arrested in the first place, but thats why we have a court system to catch those who were unjustly arrested or detained... at some point people have to recognize they no longer have the right to "resist" and MUST comply with orders given... we're all subject to this in order to maintain control of our society... and later on he will have every chance in the world to followup with legal action against that department and officer if he chooses... but not DURING a gunpoint situation... this is NOT the time to be righteous...

now add all that to the fact, the guy "pulled over" had the vehicle in REVERSE... how does anyone who gets pulled over, have their car in reverse... so now in a struggle with the police, his foot comes off the brake and the cars goes in reverse hitting officers and they open fire on him... and even now he RAN from the police after being yanked out of the car... I mean in what world does any of this happen... this is not normal, this is not a random bad encounter... every single choice he made along the way escalated this situation to a more severe moment because he felt he was the judge and jury and could do whatever he wanted and that he is a victim...

at what point in his life will he reflect on everything thats happened to him... and realize... HE is the problem... HE is the one causing this to occur...

    http://thefreethoughtproject.com/son-columbine-massacre-hero-grows-denvers-deadliest-cops/

I could go through a bunch of the other examples... but I think you get the point...

many rights are violated, but the examples you're using, generally seem to be the people who handle that in the completely wrong way... they force the situations by giving the cops less choice just because they want to win over the cops... during a traffic stop or encounter is NOT the time to win... its the time to invoke your right to remain silent, give them the drivers license, give them the insurance, and stop answering any questions... when they tell you to sign the ticket, sign it, and go have your day in court... but your attitude will dramatically change how they react... stop with the poor attitudes and understand how the system works... especially with more and more cars having cameras, you won't need proof, they'll already have the proof for you if you are justified... and if the officer is dirty they will get a stack of complaints filed against them slowly over time and the department will take care of that officer on their own... but trying to fight with the cops, and then claiming you're a victim, you lost all rights the second you physically struggle with them...

you have a right to remain silent, exercise it, and often much less will ever happen to you...

America at it's start - I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.

America today - Just do what you're told and you won't be arrested. If the cops are constantly harassing you it must be your fault. The only people opposed to searches are the people who have something to hide.

It is people like you who perpetuate the police state. You can take some credit for each of the deaths and assaults of all these people... pat yourself on the back.

Comply or die/submit and obey your superiors is what you hear from the apologists for the state (who often claim to be "small governemnt conservatives.")

    I hope you realize
Very few police officers go to prison
Some are indicted but very few actually go to prison for abuse

I think I clearly pointed out both sides of the argument... except I stuck to the reality that the paranoid victim mentality is unwarranted...

there is a point when "resisting" the police state as you suggest is righteous and warranted, but you completely reject the notion there comes a time when "resisting" the police state is the worst move on the entire planet because you will lose any ability to justify your position...

when a cop has a gun pointed at you, the time to resist and fight is over, you will lose 99% of the time, who wants those odds? if I don't resist, I will win 99% of the time... I'm simply saying, flip the table of odds and make the best choice, not the "right" choice...

does it make sense to fight with a shark on the water where it has the power, or does it make sense to get out of the water where you have power... stop swimming in the water and fighting with the shark, you're not going to win... get out of the water, save yourself, and come back with a boat and spears... why lose a leg or an arm just to be "right" when you'll still never be able to clap and must hop for the rest of your life... way to win...

The most flagrant example of a Logical Fallacy (propaganda lie) is to attack the source and not the argument. That is clearly what you are doing and destroys all your credibility. If you can make an argument against the article do so, but do not stoop to unethical tactics.

I posted a permalink from facebook, genius...and you would be wise to vette your sources if you are using them to make a point!

My credibility is not the issue here, I'm not the one using fake news sites to bolster my argument!

Remember -- when you are stopped by a peace officer and given a lawful command you have two choices. 1 -- comply and be cooperative. 2 -- refuse to follow his orders. A law abiding sane person with no chip on his shoulder and no attitude will always take number one. They will soon be on their way. The low intelligent with an attitude will take number two. They will end up in jail or maybe dead.
Let me see -- which one will I chose, gosh this must be rocket science, number one or number two, let me think some more. Life is so full of hard decisions. Maybe I should call a friend.

No, what you inferred was that all these people deserved to get killed and assaulted because they were the problem.

The issue is that government is over reaching the limited power given it to protect the public. If the public is at imminent danger, then the police have the power to use force in equal amount to the situation. When a boy with down syndrome does not respond to an officers verbal commands because he does not understand, that does not justify the officer jumping him and assaulting him. When cops break into the wrong house and assault the inhabitants they are not justified in shooting them for trying to defend themselves. The police in this country are clearly out of control and are killing an average of 3 people per day and assaulting and arresting hundreds more on false pretenses. Our prison population is the highest in the world and even higher than the worst totalitarian governments that have ever existed.
The government steals hundreds of millions of dollars of citizens assets in an illegal practice known as asset forfeiture.
The fact that we live in an abusive police state is undeniable, but what is really unbelievable is that we have become such a unethical society that we actually support the status quo.

Yes, facebook gives you tons of credibility.... and yes your credibility is at question because you are using an unethical tactic....

Perhaps you would like to quote a number? In order to be convicted, the officer must be proven to have committed the crime with premeditation. If he simply acted out of rage or incompetence, he cannot be charged. There are very few officers ever convicted of any crimes. They are either covered up or thrown out due to qualified immunity.

Like I said, you are using an unethical tactic, obviously you never attended college or you would understand that from the rules of debating.
If you can make a point then do so, if not then you have no position and need to find a topic you know something about.

Yeah, I'm seeing no evidence that it's false. That link you posted just says "this is false", talking about another story, while providing no evidence. Second it's not Facebook doing that, it's a user group on Facebook that doesn't appear to have any affiliation with Facebook at all. What you've posted is entirely meaningless and in no way disputes the OP which, if you've been paying any attention to the media, links story's you've probably read by now. Remember the guy shot and killed by paranoid NY cops for having the audacity to take the stairwell to his apartment? Remember the guy killed at Walmart for having the audacity to buy a BB gun? Remember the kid in the park with a BB gun? Each case presented has an internal link to its story.

Akai Gurley was walking to his apartment with his girlfriend when he startled a pair of rookie cops. Instead of saying, “hello” or “hi,” NYPD officer Peter Liang put a bullet through this young father.

Tamir Rice is another famous case of a child being gunned down by police. Rice was playing with a BB gun at a park when officer Timothy Loehmann pulled up and immediately shot the boy, without ever giving him a chance.

John Crawford was looking to purchase a BB gun at an Ohio Walmart when multiple officers rushed in and shot him on sight. He committed no crime and harmed no one.

Freethoughtproject is not a credible website...period!

No one is denying there are bad cops...but that does not mean everyone of them are, for every one of these cases there are thousands of cases where people are stopped or questioned with no problem, so I really do not understand the what the point of this thread is other than to bash the police, what do you think it is?

What exactly is there supposed to be in this thread that needs debating?

The cops who shot Crawford also threatened his girlfriend with jail time if she did not lie and say he carried the air rifle into the store, and a customer at the store claimed that he was forced to lie and say he saw Crawford aiming the gun at people.
