It's complicated ... I work for an Italian society which has begun to import products from China a decade ago to increase margins [so we produce no more some goods in Italy]. It's evident that if we cut imports from China those Chinese societies who live on our purchases will go bankrupt. But if we cut imports we will have to produce those goods again in Italy ... being no more competitive [since our competitors still import from China] or losing that margin which sustain our financial sector. So, to bring base production back we should close or limit a lot Wall Street [I guess that many leftists would be glad, but ...].

A strong china will be good for the US in terms of promoting healthy competition which will lead to progress. However, India will be larger than China during my lifetime, so a strong china is not necessarily going to translate to any threat whatsoever to the US.
