The GOP establishment has chosen to go to war against Donald Trump, and propel their chosen one (Jeb Bush) as the front-runner and eventual nominee. This is obvious, and their attempts to derail the Trump campaign couldn't be more clear. It has been one distortion of Trump's word's after another.

    1. They distort his words against illegal alien Mexicans, into being against all Mexicans (including those remaining in Mexico). They then stretch that out as a slam against all Hispanics. Trump's comments were actually nicer to illegal aliens than they should have been. He called some of them "good people". Actually, no lawbreakers disrespecting our laws and us, are good people.

    2. Then, they seized upon the McCain words. Trump first said "He's not a war hero". So what ? There's a large body of evidence that McCain WASN'T a war hero, and may well have been a traitor, who collaborated for years with the North Vietnamese. Again, Trump was nicer than he had to be, when he revised with "He's a war hero", four times.

    3. Then we have all the hubbub about Trump having contributed to Democrats over the years. More DDD (deliberate derail distortion). People in high places in the business world contribute to everyone, in relatively small (for them) contributions, in order to secure business transactions that otherwise could go to business opponents who also make those contributions. It is the ways of the business world, and really has little to do with any political favoritism. Also looking at Trump's contributions, he has only contributed to Republicans over the past 5 years, with not one dime going to a Democrat.

    4. Then we have the debate and Fox News joining the GOP regulars in the lynch mob against Trump. All 3 moderators went on the attack, with Bret Baier starting it, asking about a 3rd party candidacy (knowing full well what Trump had already said about that).

    5. Lastly, now we have the hypocrite, sexist Eric Erickson, putting words in Trump's mouth that he never said, and then condemning him for it. Only a deviant mind would follow Erickson's obvious derail on that, and I'm surprised at Huckabee, Fiorina and some other candidates for going along with it, but then they are vested interests here, and this is a ruthless race, with some aging candidates maybe seeing this as their last and only shot at the presidency.
As far as what Trump did say, the words "whatever, wherever, whenever" are words very commonly used in the New York style of speech. If you combed through hundreds of Trump's speeches, you would find them hundreds of times, all having nothing to do with anything biological or disparaging to anyone. This is just a smear job from Erickson (whose own record on women is atrocious), creating an issue, and too many people are falling for it.

There will be many more of these attacks, and often using words never spoken by Trump. It's time to realize that.

I dunno....there's something about Trump. Businessman, probably pandered to government officials in order to have successful business ventures. Not unlike a lot of us who have to be licensed, taxed, etc. or made to pay for 'environmental studies' etc. before even thinking about a development. Of course a good businessman would cater to those who have the power to make or break such a business venture. I don't blame him for that.

I believe Trump is popular because he holds politician's and media's feet to the fire. He says what he believes and stands behind it. I know he is mad at Megyn Kelly but, I believe that will be short lived. Kelly is a professional and Trump is just showing who he is. Trump will face more of the same or worse IF he is the Republican candidate.

People on this board are not looking at trump through the eye of the average voter.

We all discuss politics frequently, the average person does not.

He's showing assertiveness (Leadership quality), Dominance (Leadership quality), and he's showing the world how to not be controlled by the PC police .

He's showing everything the people want.

Now look at this through a different lens and you will see why he's popular.

He's certainly a lot more popular than the rest of the abject losers he's up against.

You would think Republicans would stop believing in polls after the last 7 years, lol. Trump has no chance of winning. He'll be 3rd or 4th and than when he realizes he's going to lose he'll back out of the race and blame the Republican establishment for being mean to him. That way he can act like he didn't lose and it was his choice.

(Shrug) Yes, well, that's pretty much what the Left-ALLIED Mainstream Media did to front runner candidate Hillary Clinton in 2008 when THEIR favored candidate Barack Obama finally tossed his hat into the Dem Party primaries ring. Immediately the MSM went into attack mode against Hillary, essentially and blatantly campaigning for Barack Obama in a stunning example of the biased press being openly biased. It . . . was . . . awesome.

So one can either say that Fox News learned from ABC, CBS, and NBC/MSNBC or has devolved into being the Right of Center version of ABC,CBS, and NBC/MSNBC right down to the pandemic lack of ethics, integrity, and honor. Nice!

I agree. But he also is taking the gop down a road with checks they can't cash as a party. If he were President the gop would be exposed so bad just by trying to do all the things he wants. They aren't capable philosophically. It's a mess.

Oh I don't know. He says they inferred it, they say he implied it, I'm not certain that he didn't. But the subject has gotten off his issues and onto personalities and frankly I prefer hearing him push and develop his issues.

I'm not concerned that he has an issue with sexism because of the dog that is not barking. I'm sure the oppo researchers have combed through his hiring and firing decisions with a fine toothed comb. The history of who he promotes and who is not promoted. No one has suggested he has been unfair to women; underpaying, overworking, failing to promote or engaging in anything even remotely approaching the serial sexual harassment committed by Bill Clinton.

Really, what is the GOP trying to do?

Trump, is the embodiment of what the GOP has been reflecting in its attitude and politics, since President Obama was first elected. Trump IS the GOP... but they just don't like it as UP FRONT and VISIBLE... as Trump delivers it.

Trump is EXACTLY what the GOP has been nurturing within their party.

It's astounding to watch the chickens come home to roost.

What did you expect, he joined the "Troll" party. All they know is attacks.

The Right Wing TODAY only trolls and attacks people. They don't actually discuss substance in politics. They just find out the best way to say, "you are stupid" which you say they are using on Trump. They don't focus on their own substance, they focus on attacks. The Left wing focuses on substance in politics and gets it's attack basement work from the RNC debates.

It's kind of stupefying to see the GOP so on it's knees in utter disrepair.

You have Trump as the current front runner, followed up by a field of frankly nobody substantively significant and with the gravitas for the Oval. The GOP leadership actively working against the person most popular as he simultaneously energizes the very base that moderate conservatives (read: most of them) are weepingly desperate to shed.

Hillary will win out sheer brand power + the gender bonus.

I haven't felt THIS disappointed in an event before it even started since my last compensation review.

Most Republicans don't want a loose cannon with a tenuous grasp of the issues to be their standard bearer. What a conspiracy.

The GOP has deteriorated since President Obama has been President.

Instead of BEING a better party... they've only talked/screamed about why the 'other' party is soooo terrible.

Trump is the embodiment of what the GOP is, although the Right does not wish that to be so 'obvious'.

I submit the GOP deterioration occurred earlier.

For instance, the idea that McCain/Palin was a viable ticket was incredible; an insult to the electorate that was so roundly rejected. But worse, the sheer hubris of submitting such a ticket for American consideration alone showed the crisis the GOP was in.

The GOP is in a vacuum of leadership. Nobody of sincerity and substance is willing to get out front and drive a boat that has been taken over by their vocal minority.

It will take a LONG time for GOP to recover, several more elections I imagine. It is disappointing for me because it causes a serious lopsidedness in the two-party environment.

They invested everything in tearing down Obama and the country instead of in themselves. Turned them in to a mess. They can't even function within their own party. Donald Trump is their current leader, lol. I thought they would learn after the 2012 election but instead they tripled down on their insanity. Embarrassing.

They are STILL the misguided, STUPID party. I say that, not because I'm a Progressive... but because a lot of what the Republicans have done has just been like shooting themselves in the foot. They didn't get a handle on the sexism, racism, avarice and hatred they've been spewing since the election of Barack Obama as President.

It has been both ugly and obvious. The GOP is Trump... and Trump is the GOP; that's almost an absolute.

Absolute truth. Trump is capitalizing on a very degenerate base that craves this kind of immaturity and recklessness. It's shown on this forum, on conservative radio, conservative television, internet sites, etc. They are a very immature group of people. But the Republican brass still haven't figured out that the majority of Americans are normal people who do not want some ignorant psychopath as the leader of this nation. The fact the Republicans have yet to figure this out is mind boggling. They actually believe they are losing because the candidates they elect are not conservative enough, lmao!! It's hilarious.
