The only way that Sanger and Dennett disagreed on Comstock Laws was in the way those laws should be challenged, Sanger advocated for direct action where as Dennett advocated for peaceful lobbying .. their goal was the same.

    Hi Fuggy,

Why can't you deal with the substance of the charges with detailed analysis? Don't be lazy.

Sanger advocated sterilization and compulsory negative eugenics. Her morality was of the lowest order.

    - - - Updated - - -

Did Margaret Sanger believe eugenics should be used upon disabled people?

You have just admitted Margaret Sanger wanted to restrict Asians, Africans, and Latin Americans from immigrating to the US. Racial prejudice against those she viewed as being of a lower order is the reason for her prejudice.

Margaret Sanger supported compulsory sterilizations, and called homosexuals perverts. That pretty much discredits her. Margaret Sanger was no more a feminist than is Bill Clinton.

That's not true. Sanger was Dennett's arch rival who sandbagged Dennett wherever possible. Dennett did not want to empower old white male doctors, while Sanger did. Read the book: http://thenewpress.com/books/sex-side-of-life

You don't deny Sanger advocated the use of coercion against women for eugenic purposes. Duly noted.

How did Margaret Sanger define Racial Health? Why did she add the word Racial to the word Health?

I'm not a prolifer. This is about Margaret Sanger, not the reproductive autonomy of women.

I've read the letter to Dr. Gamble from Margaret Sanger. Your opinion of Sanger's characterization of African Americans as ignorant and superstitious is specious, deceptive, and amounts to nothing more than attempted sophistry. The meaning you attach to her words seeks to decouple the demeaning import of those words from her disrespect displayed for the persons of African Americans. Moreover, you ignore her reference to "rebellious members" which provides further evidence of her disrespect for African Americans. You also ignore her references in other material to "racial chaos" and "sexual chaos." You have no way of explaining Sangers use of those terms in the context of negative eugenics in general, and the Negro Project in particular. The fact she created a Negro Project as opposed to folding African Americans in to her Birth Control League without separation speaks to her segregation of that demographic group from the mainstream of her movement.

You don't have a reasonable manner of explaining Planned Parenthood's acknowledgement of Margaret Sanger's possible racism in the context of her era, and the fact that she applied negative eugenics to reduce the numbers of those she saw as unfit, lesser beings, inferior to her "race of thoroughbreds." She associated with known racists, placed them on her board, and published their opinions. Taken together with Margaret Sanger's opposition to immigration by "inferior" peoples, the effect of her negative eugenics had a disparate impact on the numbers of African Americans just as she intended it to. Margaret Sanger was a negative eugenicist, a racist, hostile to people of color, who set back the feminist movement by decades due to her rivalry with real feminists. Margaret Sanger, the supporter of compulsory sterilization, represents the worst Western morality. It is not surprising that so many African Americans, as diverse as Dr. Angela Davis and Dr. Ben Carson, hold her in contempt for the racist Sanger was.

Carson has admitted that he personally had done medical testing on the brain of a 17 week old fetus. He's just another total hypocrite for what he says and what he has personally done is 100% opposite.

I already have on numerous occasions.

Oh dear asking to prove a negative, it is your assertion that Sanger and Dennett were "opponents" you prove it.

They did have different ideas on how to achieve the removal of birth control legislation from The Comstock Laws, Dennett advocated for peaceful methods much as she learned with the suffrage movement, whilst Sanger wanted much more direct action through the use of law-defying and confrontational tactics.

When Sanger fled the country in October 1914 to avoid prosecution, Dennett helped organize the National Birth Control League (NBCL) in March 1915, upon Sanger's return she had changed her focus on contraception advocating for it to be done in a medical setting to ensure the most effective and safe contraception using scientific methods rather than the scatter gun approach advocated by Dennett.

Again, nothing about a specific race .. keep going the hole you are digging just gets deeper.

Yes she did, what has that got to do with your assertion that Sanger was racist?

answer the question - do you disagree with her estimation of "restricting the immigration of Asians, Africans, Latin Americans, Southern Europeans, Jews, and Eastern Europeans into the United States.", because if you do then you are also including pretty much every government that has ever existed in the USA as being racist.

BTW if you are going to respond to me then DON'T cherry pick my comments, answer them in full or not at all.

That is an assumption for which you have no evidence.

Are you asserting that every government has based it's immigration policy on racist ideology?

and what has that got to do with your assertion that she was racist?

Neither does the second citation YOU provided confirm your assertion .. deal with the fact that YOU provided evidence that shows your assertion to be false.

Are you saying that I am a liar?

They were not "arch rivals", they disagreed on the methods and ideology of how to remove birth control, as an obscenity, from Comstock Laws. One book does not make what you assert a fact.

If you want to debate that subject then start a thread to do so, at the moment the debate is your erroneous assertion that Sanger was racist .. have you forgotten that, so it still remains "nothing about a specific race" or have you abandoned your assertion in light of the evidence that shows you are wrong?

Why don't you use a dictionary, then you would see that racial means "relating to race" ergo racial health means relating the to the health of races.. so again where is the specific race mentioned or even implied?

The fact of the matter is that racial health refers to ALL races and nothing you have put forward disputes that, so yet again we see another example of your own confirmation bias.

Really, despite the fact that on numerous other occasions she categorically states she is against any form of racism, but of course you have to ignore them as it would undermine your confirmation bias. All you have done is decide Sanger was racist and then taken things out of context and misrepresented to adhere to your confirmation bias, you have nothing, nil, zero to dispute what I have stated.

The difference is that you are just applying what you want things to mean in order to satisfy your confirmation bias, where as anyone without that confirmation bias can see that her words reflect perfectly the situation that African-Americans felt towards white people at that time. You are so infected with finding "disrespect" in anything and everything that your ability to reason logically is impaired.

I have not ignored it, so why are you lying .. I've already explained what she meant by "rebellious members", the fact that you cannot dispute what I have stated only shows the shallowness of your own argument.

All have been answered, you just cannot dispute the correct analysis offered blinded as you are by the desire to see racism where there is none, and you are wrong Sanger did not CREATE the Negro project, the project was removed from her influence BEFORE it was implemented, and anyone who has even bothered to read the FULL details of that project will understand that Sanger wanted Afrcian-Americans at the forefront of it because she knew that they were the best people to calm the fears of the general African-American population that it was about decimating them. By your logic EVERY single project designed to help minority groups, even the ones today, are based on "segregation of that demographic group from the mainstream" and that is pure insanity.

The very item you quote disputes your version, you know the bit you left out, furthermore I have NEVER disputed that Sanger wanted to reduce the numbers of those she saw as unfit . .that does not equate to your erroneous assertion that she was racist, you just keep making the same basic errors of guilt by association and assuming the premise . .to date you have offered nothing credible that even suggests she was racist.

Sanger never said a "race of thoroughbreds", that was said by Dr. Edward A. Kempf, for someone who professes to KNOW Sanger was racist you really should know who said what and when. What Sanger did say in "The Pivot of Civilization" was the following - "The noblest and most difficult art of all is the raising of human thoroughbreds", notice it says "human thoroughbreds", no race mentioned or are you suggesting that African-Americans are not human?

    Guilt by association fallacy.

You keep saying this, yet EVERY piece of your so called evidence has been destroyed.

Yet more assumption without fact based on your desire for it to be true.

She was a supporter of compulsory sterilization of that there is no argument, now all you have to do is show where she advocated it for African-Americans ONLY, until you do that then you have nothing.

It is no surprise that many African-Americans support Sanger for what she achieved for African-Americans in the way of birth control, the fact that you have decided only to adhere to those who treat her with contempt only further underlines your need to fuel your confirmation bias.

Everyone of your so called arguments is based on assumption and fallacies.

Do the Forum Rules permit one member to call another member a liar? The answer is no. You're very lucky I don't report other members for any reason. Now go forth and sin no more.

Hey, don't forget about blastocysts and embryos. And always ask for more details on what this alleged "moment of conception" actually is. LOL!

Those laws defend a woman's PROPERTY interest in the fetus she is carrying. Note that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those laws exempts the woman herself and any of her agents from prosecution under the law.

It has been my experience over many years that Sanger threads typically end in revealing moral and intellectual deficiencies among her attackers. I do not adjudge this one to have turned out differently. It was stomach -turning to read through it.

Margaret Sanger called African Americans "ignorant" and "suspicious." Why would she describe any group of people in a way that's designed to be hurtful to them?

then don't make statements that can easily be shown to be false, instead of just rushing to respond perhaps you should read the full exchanges and check that the accusation you are making is in fact correct.. on that note I will apologise for calling you a liar. ill informed would have been more correct.
