He should have sat quietly or laid quietly on the floor as they placed him. And the law requires "depraved indifference" there is no evidence of any such thing. The one witness states he was banging himself around and raising a ruckus all on his own.

... and the local businesses rely on whatever the insurance companies might give them.

Way to look out for your city, Baltimore.

There was no "agreement" to be made. There is no "pre-trial". You don't seem to understand, there have been NO filings for civil litigation here. Maybe the families lawyers told them they won't stand a chance in court so THEY NEVER FILED OR ASKED FOR A SETTLEMENT.

Yet the mayor is just on a whim going to hand over $6.4 million of the taxpayer dollars to them.

WHY?? There is even a cap on such settlements which the courts have upheld, $400,000. Why the $6.4 million what is the justification EVEN IF the city has some liability?

Why? Think about it. A black woman got her hands into the state treasury and you don't think reparations will come out of that hat instead of a rabbit?

Talk about one massive incentive now. Be a drug dealing jackass with a record as long as your arm, but goad the police into somehow allegedly acting inappropriately, and collect one massive payday.

    Redistribution of wealth.

Taking money from White tax payers and giving it to Black criminals.

$1000 says members of that family also have criminal records.

    I'm not saying he shouldn't.
I'm saying that the officers had a duty to properly restrain a known scammer for the benefit of the Taxpayer.
Depraved indifference comes in when they could have prevented what is easy to prevent.
Arrogance comes in when throwing somebody onto the floor of a moving vehicle.

I'm a southern white guy and have had my own run ins with police arrogance. Just ask one a question he has no answer to. They always resort to telling you off.
I get treated differently depending on how I'm dressed.
Whether I just came out of a South Knoxville crawl space fixing a pipe,
or left a West Knoxville Restaurant dressed for dinner.
The arrogance is real and not well taken.

Maybe that money should be given to business owners who lost their businesses to looting and arson, at least they provide services that actually benefit society. What did this drug dealing scumbag do for society, beside hook poor people on drugs?

    PURE DEMOCRATIC / PC POLITICS

    Facts:

Gray had previously tried to injure himself to sue the city.
A witness in the van said Gray was trying to injure himself.

This is crazy. This is Liberalism. This will come right out of the taxpayers in the city of Baltimore. What a joke.

The Greys got their payday. Now it's open season for everybody else to try for one. Watch for it.

When YOU jump up and down in a moving vehicle when your arms and legs have been bound then YOU bear the responsibility of the results. When you do so while banging your head against a metal wall in the vehicle YOU bear the responsibility for the results.

There was no "depraved indifference" on the part of the police officers.

Born and bred and was a redneck hippie in the late 60's in the DEEP South so don't think you can school me on encounters with the police.

Oh they get nothing they were probably all racist and deserved what they got and of course the mayor just had to let the rioters blow off steam......remember.

    - - - Updated - - -

This is the mayor trying to influence the jury pool and then trying to score political points with the ghetto "look what I for us black folk from all those whities who pay the taxes".

The Baltimore police admits that Gray got killed by their cops.
    End of discussion.

And what a joke is, is that city needs to have some serious talks with their cops, and why this isn't coming out of their paycheck. There are 6 cops being accused of murder. 6! Takes just 1 to make a rough ride. And all the white cops got charged with false imprisonment. Ergo, Grey shouldn't even been in that van to begin with.

Those officers never should have been hired. They just suck at their job and costs the community too much money.
That's the problem. You're just pinning on that poor dude who almost got his spine torn in to 2.
That just doesn't happen in some little accident.

    Wrongful arrest.

Assault resulting in grievous bodily harm.

    Negligent homicide.

Ahh get your facts straight. Six officers are not charged with murder, just one. None are charged with false imprisonment so yes he was supposed to be in that van again for about the twentieth time. The mayor had specificially asked the police to up the patrolling and arrest on that corner because of the drug dealers taking it over of which Grey was one. The one witness who was in the van on the other side of the dividing wall told the police there was no rought ride and the Grey was making a ruckus and standing up and banging his head against the metal divider.

It wasn't a wrongful arrest and he the arrest itself did not cause him harm. He as laid out of the floor because he was restrained both hands and feet and had been fighting with the police. He stood up in a moving vehicle while in that restraint and any reasonable person would judge that to a dangerous act solely on his part, the police did not force him to stand up and jump around and beat his head on the metal divider. They instructed him to lay on the floor.

    No negligence.

You witnessed it? Or did you just read the police statements in the press? Why were police arrested? Were police not wearing the right make-up?

Missed the videos? Missed the witness statement to the police? Missed the autopsy report?

The were arrested because of the incompetent over her head misguided states attorney who cares more about her makeup than doing her job correctly and without bias.

They are still awaiting pretrial hearings to be completed and now the city has thrown this monkey wrench into for NO LOGICAL REASON.
